The simple fact that the loose shoe existed sure didn't help BB's chances in the Belmont. Missed training never helps a horse. He said clearly he didn't run like he was sore, because he didn't even take a bad step or anything that would indicate a problem. He didn't kick in from a gallop to a run. Do not kid yourself a loose shoe CAN effect a horses action. In the end it is pretty simple the horse for WHATEVER reason didn't have it that day. Give Kent a break,it wasn't anything he did!!!!!
Can we identify who the farrier of Big Brown was before this race? Isn't it protocol to make sure a shoe fits snugly and is nailed into place and not ajar prior to the animal going into the race? Perhaps getting stepped on can dislodge a shoe but doesn't that angle have to be very exact in order to have that happen?
@yipyappyyip Actually a horse doing what is called catching a quarter(meaning he catches his front hoof with one of his hind ones is somewhat common, especially as a horse comes out of the gate. It is just one of those things that can happen.
Big Brown was overhyped. This the bottom line. Hey Kent D. you were very arrogant before the race as long he shows up the gate he wins. Then after making excuses. That is why this guy booted out of California. He has big mouth. He has talent, but need to shut the hell up. It is over let it go. Get lost.
"Hear me roar, he was not sore." Then why, Kent, do you feel the shoe was an issue? "Well, didn't you hear me? Hold on, let me say it again, "HEAR ME ROAR, HE WAS NOT SORE?" So perhaps the sprung shoe didn't cause his stride to be a bit awkward and hinder him during the race. "Hear me roar, he was not sore." Then HOW, Kent, do you know now why he did not run. "Hear me roar, he was not sore?" Yet another wise-cracking retort from the biggest psychologically disturbed jockey of them all.
I can't believe this ignorant woman is so rude and is making all these insinuations about Desormeaux. She should just shut up. He did exactly the right thing.
I agree with you. He sure did. If your horse is empty after 7/8ths of mile, then whats the point whipping him in the stretch run? it was a bad day for BB.
BULLCRAP KENT,YOU THREW THE RACE!

@bigedz80 No he didnt. You can see him asking BB to run, and BB didnt respond. Kent is the man for preserving his horse.

Yup. Kent Desormeaux did everything the way he did because he cares of Big Brown.

it's interesting but annoying how often people like her will pop off at the mouth when they don't know what they're talking about at all.

It is Jeannine Edwards' job to ask these tough questions. She's a good journalist.
