@OhPhilly Absolutely not.Or at very least I've never heard of that. I imagine you're breathing too much there. Remember that you shouldn't be clawing for air or filling your lungs to bursting at any point. If you do that your notes wont be as 'stable' as you want. Try breathing as naturally as possible, especially when you start learning. Then you can play around with different volumes and breathing later on. Good luck with it.
Thanks mate, I think i've been pushing too much hair through, resulting in me needing to breath much more. I'll try and keep at it and not lose interest. I think they sound cool!
@OhPhilly It might be worth looking at some of JP Allen's vids. He does great stuff with breathing. He's got a load of youtube vids as well as a website. Good luck!
@apocq I know, but I found it really, really difficult to play anything even faintly musical when I first started, and I hope it's useful to some people. Sorry it didn't help you.
@theloneoutlaw I don't think it necessarily does, although, obviously, you shouldn't smoke, blah, blah, blah. Jason Ricci smokes like a chimney and is amazing. Having said that, he did catch pneumonia a little while back. I can play fine while smoking. Howvever, I might be eating my words at some point in the future if it does. :)
@lostatlimbo I agree, it does seem to be quite common, but it's not really a 'get to the point' instrument. I have a couple of 3-minute harp lessons on my channel where I really try to get straight to it. Also, maybe try JP Allen. He's excellent at getting to the point.
@photoluver4life Yes, it works fine. The 3 hole on an 'A' harp can be a bit sticky sometimes though. If you're just beginning, you'll find that you can't play some holes very well. Practice makes perfect though. Try breathing a little harder (but not too hard). It may be that you have a broken reed. If this is the case, try breathing through a straw with the 3 hole, which should give you a clean note. It's most likely just practice.
I've been learning on my own with C, D, G hoodoo blues harmonicas and its really great to hear more pointers and to learn how to make that sound. thanks for posting that. I've been playing simple tunes (hey jude, candle on the water and learning piano man) this really gave me a boost to play around with. :)
Hi , i have a question: i want to have since a really long time a mout harp or harmonic. There are many different kinds of it , but which one is the best for beginners ? Sorry that my question doesn't belong to this video , but on google it's very difficult to find some useful information about it..
@sammieboy714 Hmm..I'm no expert either, I got my harmonica yesterday...I hear that the best for beginners are in KEY of C..that's what I have...hope that helps C:
@sammieboy714 Sorry, just noticed this comment. It depends on your budget. If you only have $5 or so to spend on a harp, a silver star is a good start. If you want to spend upwards of $20, then I found the MS blues harps really good. Remember, that's my personal preference. Sorry, that's not much help. One good tip though, don't bother buying second hand 1) you have to clean them, and if you dont know what youre doing you can ruin them, and 2) they may be broken.
LMAO......I just got a Harmonica and @CarlangasNapoleon......has the same effect on my dog, it drives her nuts

Sweet mate. Also, is it normal to feel light headed when playing? I am learning harmonica and either breathing too much or too little.

Why A? everyones says to go buy a harp in C
chrisdavies23359 1 month ago
@chrisdavies23359 This video was specifically for three people, who all had 'A' harps. Dont ask me why. I should probably do one in 'C', I guess.

Why does every harmonic video begin with 3 minutes of nonsense babble? Can't any of you get to the point?

I have the same Harmonica, does it work when you inhale and exhale with the 3? Because mine does not work that well when I exhale or inhale
