A professional interpreter can interpret in most situations...but it's important that the terp believe what is being taught so that they fit the message. It's not fair if the terp disagrees. It's not fair for the terp or the Deaf audience. Some churches accept gays as normal, but the bible is clear that this is NOT normal. My opinion is that those who serve in church must cooperate with the Holy Spirit. God do things despite our rebellion, but it is better when the terp is a willing servant.GBU
No it is NOT right at all. Christ himself abhor homosexuality. Why would you not let Jesus heal you from your past abuse since you are in Church where His Word is being preached. I would have as a Pastor given you a chance to repent of your sinful lifestyle and turn it over to Christ. There is no such a thing as a gay or lesbian Christian at all. That is the devil's warped reasoning. I lso do not believe in interpreters in hearing Churchs as they just baby sit the Deaf.
I'm shocked to see that a pastor said you should assume the leadership role in order to interpret. I disagree vehemently. You just interpret what the pastor has to say, that's about it. Nothing to do with your sexual preference nor leadership role. Leadership role solely belongs to a pastor ONLY. Nobody else.

2. Yep, interpreting is leadership role. Leadership for other hrg who are interested in learning to interpret, looking for resources to learn sign, interested in how you became fluent etc.... Can be leadership role with hrg church. A solid hrg terp can support Deaf church as partner with hrg church.

By judging & rejecting u, the church is claiming righteous. God welcomes ALL people. It's very sad the people who calls themselves the most "worthy of God" are forgetting this major detail about Him.
It's sad to say that there are a lot of "Christians" even pastors & their wives that are still in need of a very good lesson in the Bible. Sexual preference is no reason to reject u from the church especially when u are offering interpreting services to make the church more accessible for others. There are pastors that lie, steal, Priest molest little boys etc. The point is EVERY1 sins. A persons sexual identity is no worse than anyone else. He who has not sinned may cast the 1st stone.

1Cor6:11-12 said by Paul that any sins practiced by list in 9-10 don't belong in God's (k)ingdom. Church=God's K & ea. mem of church must share holiness as 1 is born again in Christ (Jn3-5) & move frm sinner's position to saint. I gave sermon on that & check it out!
