  • This building just needs some cleaning, it's condition is much better than any 20 years old school building in here in Slovak republic. If You don't want it, just load it on some mega jumbo jet and send here :-) just don't tear it down.

  • @arkviz i agree, but its half torn down now :(

  • @bagaauwk the building was all redone when my son was in highschool there 20 years ago. ticks me off that

they just left everything in the building to buy new.

  • @foxeskimo thats kwame for ya! there was nothing wrong with the original cass tech when they decided to build a new one! id complain cuz we found all kinds of school records in there. those are supposed to be private! i drove by there last week, all of the "new side" is gone.

  • @bagaauwk the building was all redone when my son was in highschool there 20 years ago. ticks me off that

they just left everything in the building to buy new.

  • I wish we could have stayed in the old building. The last class to see it before all this was c/o 08

  • how come it isnt closed down already

  • @taniah212 I heard it's been closed for 6 years, but recently they announced it will be torn down. I think they're gutting the building as we speak.

  • theyre tearing cass tech down?

  • @taniah212 yep :(

  • What a waste

  • Why are these dried up white trash running around the building like they went there or something i get so tired of always seeing them make fun of black peoples failure etc. What in the hell was the point of them being there in the first place really. I used to live near there for over 7 years and this is truly ridiculous to say the least. Notice the new million dollar structure next door guess not.

  • @jksn008 They look more like artists/hipsters to me, which can be just as annoying. Seriously, it's sad to see something so historic crumble as badly as this structure did. I also agree that any cost effective (sp?) chance of saving it may have died long ago.

  • what a huge fucking waste of resources.

  • what happend

  • CT c/o 98 its sad to see my school like this but what do u expect from an abandoned building and a dilapidated city council and public school system. They could have recycled this stuff to the other schools that had shortages. Just not smart management. Demolition starts after the school year lets out. Right now the interior is being gutted out. The building will stand no more after May.

  • @mrlowrey i guess theyre going to tear it down

  • CT c/o 98 its sad to see my school like this but what do u expect from an abandoned building and a dilapidated city council and public school system. They could have recycled this stuff to the other schools that had shortages. Just not smart management.

  • How the hell are you supposed to make a living in a city thats derelict...

  • i go to cass and we still use those old books thats in the old one...smh

  • so sad to see my school look like this...so sad! CT c/o 98

  • apt music for this video

  • that is so trifling why would they leave the school books and all school supplies at the shcool and lol 4:59, they is still clay on the board.. wtf..its like they just left the class and never came up to clean or anything..lol smh

  • @normandyangel thats detroit for you. crooked politicians and retarded voters

  • @bagaauwk if detroit is so bad why are you looking at a video about it

  • @1trev85 looking? its my fuckin video retard! i LIVE in detroit!

i hate trolls. say something worth a fuck or stfu,

  • @normandyangel they got all new stuff somewhat

  • i remember we used to skip class and break in the 7th floor gym so we could play ball. what a bunch of knuckleheads

  • i went to cass for two years from 79 to 81 are youall trying to say is that cass tech has closed down? if so that is a shame because cass was a great school plus they had the finest honeys

  • @jbreezy103 cass tech isnt closed, they just built a brand new building behind the old cass tech and left it there to rot. i think theyre going to tear it down soon.

  • @bagaauwk demolition begins this month :-(

  • @divinitee98 i know, im bummed. such an awesome looking building too

  • The old cass building looks horrible, Im glad they did decide to build the one we are using now.

  • My father attended Cass Tech many years ago. It was a fine school back then. What a tragedy Detroit has become over the years.

  • So many memories in that place. Depressing to see it like that, I can only imagine what its like today in there. CT '96.....

  • Comment removed

  • @MrMcPuff who the fuck said i was owed anything? i just film these buildings before retards like u tear them down.

in closing, fuck you and stay off my fuckin page you whiney faggot

  • @bagaauwk angry and bitter aren't you

  • @garycalgary yep

  • Why is this school so famous?

and when did it get abandoned?

  • My mother graduated from Cass Tech, sad pure and simple (I graduated from Cooley).

  • @JUZDONTSAYSHYT thank you!

  • what year did this school close?

  • @Master784 at 2:45 there is a chalkboard with a lesson plan dating 6/28/05 i believe

  • @Master784 It closed 2005 after they built the new CT.

  • where is this place in detroit?

  • instead of spamming all of my cass tech videos, wouldnt it have been easier to just look it up?

  • This is A very sad thing. In the city Im in they are about to shut down 2 of our schools. Im not sure what happened in the school in the video but it sucks when these things go on.

  • It looks like it was a beautiful school at one time. Sad.

  • @saleen715 It was a beautiful school when I went there, but I guess it was time to build a new one in 2005. The new CT is beautiful, but I still miss the old one...

  • Omgosh, the old building looks kinda scary. Wow, soo many books left behind too!

  • The front door is open!! I'm getting my ass in this school ASAP!!!

  • What was the exit plan for the old Cass Tech? This is indicative of a less than competent school board that abandons school buildings leaving behind desks, books, equipment and other supplies that might be able to be used elsewhere. I can see why the state continues to monitor this situation; the board cannot function in a manner that a business should be run.

  • exit plan? this is detroit, ALL exit plans are "fuck it, lets find a way to steal tax dollars and then get the fuck out"

  • I agree with you; this school board has been incompetent for close to 40 years now. As I said, they wonder why the state continues to monitor them and why they have even lost local control. Look no further than your video to see why!

  • there are parts 2 and 3 on my page. two was taken about a year after one, and 3 was taken about a year after 2.

i dont think ill be going back, it gets a little depressing.

and to add to your other comments on here..

youre right, its not a matter of black or white, its a matter of greed and competence. .

  • I graduated from CT in '03, I only wish you had visited some of the more special rooms:

9th floor teachers lounge, closed in the 70's...

1st floor pools, closed in the 70's (entrance is on first floor at the SE corner of bldg)

Original gym with curved hanging track (still in use when I was there)

New gym/pool (still in use when I was there)

Architecture studios (I was an architecture student @ Cass, these ore located on 3, 4, 7, and 8)

  • its too dark to film in the pools and gyms. i have tons of footage that i havent used yet. i covered that whole building room by room several times

  • schools out forever ! at that school, they left so much stuff in that school

  • There is a Brand New Cass Tech High School RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO THIS ONE! this is scheduled to be demolished.

  • yeah, we know

  • ...i was part of the last freshman class to walk these hallways...and i STILL can't believe that this magnificent structure is just...The building had MARBLE on the freakin walls, right in the entryway! And such beautiful murals on the walls! How could they let something that GOOD go to waste?! Not only did they NOT clean out the building, they left it to rot in an area infested with alcoholics and drug addicts! No one is going to do anything until someone is raped and killed in that building!

  • some one getting raped or killed in a building usually doesnt make a difference. everyone gets mad and bitches for a couple days, then they move on to the next thing and forget all about it. might be different if it happened here cuz its so close to an active school, but i doubt it.

it was an awesome building, too bad theyre letting it rot

  • Biggotry, or racism is nothing new, but in the end, it hurts us all. Nobody nows that better than me. My ancestors learned that the hard way when the European treasure hunters came to America in the 15 century.

  • And one other thing... Thanks for posting these videos. I am too old to do any more building explorations. Did my share in Brooklyn 1975-1980.

  • Graduated from this place in 1970. One of the greatest schools ever. I learned more in 3 years about art here than in 4 years at Pratt. Sad to see Detroit rot. Racism sucks... and it killed the Motor City.

  • racism on both sides killed it

  • There is no monopoly on assholism, so everybody is to blame, but not in equal measure. For example: Cass in '70: (about) 60% Black-35% White & 5% Oriental. The Detroit Police Force: 99% white. The I-95 freeway project destroyed Detroit's Black Cultural center. The middle class whites fled and the tax base dropped. Leaving the ones left behind to sink into ghetto capitalism: Drugs and Crime. The gun mentality of Detroit didn't help, either.

  • Please check your figures again. The Detroit Police Department was not 99% white in 1970; in 1968 it was 95% white but a 1970 court case changed the hiring criteria. When people just throw out information without checking authenticity, that is how rumors start. The DPS in 1966 had achieved a black majority of 56%. By 1970, it was 67% black and 44 schools had less than 20 black and 111 schools less than 20 white students. Predicting 20years it would be almost all black with little diversity.

  • aww. my school was closed down too. I was the last kid to get a diploma. :(

  • That was pissa. Great song for it too! I can't believe given the financial crisis Detroit is in that they didn't donate all that stuff to other schools! It's not o.k. to put so much to waste!

  • exactly there are so many desks and books just going to waste. even if another school in detroit doesn't use them someone needs it.

  • Thanks for the memories.

  • The first time I saw this video it disgusted me. It's still disgusting. What an awful WASTE! A pinch of the money Kwame lifetd to could have done something positive with the site where he and I and so many others went to school and became what we are today.

  • Unbelievable, with so many needy people and a city that is cash-strapped you would think they would make use of the furniture and equipment (ex. tv's, computers, desks) instead of leaving it all to rot.

  • I agree...and it hurts me to see that because I am a Cass Tech alumni...I was only in that building my freshman yr thn we moved to the new building. It was raggedy whn I was there, but it was fun & I miss it. I just don understand how they can speak so highly of cass and that particular building and just leave it like that! :(

  • The last year the school was open was in 2005. I among others, were the last graduating class out of the old building.

And I agreed that they should have made into a parking structure; A lot of us were complaining about the lack of parking.

  • Ehh, wha?

  • i'm going to be going to Cass next year (as a freshman), and i think they should attach the old Cass building to the new one. That would make the school even bigger. Or use that space as a parking lot. I'm sure they could use the space.

  • The whole point of not using the previous building was due to high maintenance costs. They figured might as well just build a new building. Although they could use that space for parking, it would be a ridiculous amount of money to tare the bldg. down and clean it up.

Detroit does not have the money to even maintain an elementary school i.e refer to schools already closed down or downsized.

  • when was the last year of the school ?? weird that everything is still in the school. why wasn't everything cleaned out and reused ??

  • AWesome video, you guys are hilarious. You two in the class, brilliant. My thoughts on the school is that it's sad they didn't donate all of that stuff.

  • doesnt william campbell go to dis school. a nation football player goin the university of michigan

  • that was a good video!!!! my boyfriend graduated from there in 1999...i wonder y the city won't clean that place up!

  • Would you mind doing this with Renaissance? I'm so sorry for spamming, and I know it's WAAAAAYYYYYY on the west side somewhere, but I will be going there next year, so I'd kindly appreciate it!!!

Also, look at that place! It's a hot mess! What happened? I'm glad i'm going to Renassaince and not Cass.

  • Renassaince ?

i dont think ive heard of that one. send me a message with details and ill get on it within a week or so.

  • Okay, i'm on it!

  • Wow thats what it looks like on the inside. Thats horrible. But the new building looks much better. Thanks for the video because I always wondered.

  • fcuk off retard

  • In the words of my generation up yours!!

  • wow. Been away for too long. I had no idea they even closed Cass Tech. damn.

As for hateful, racist comments... Welcome to Detroit. I've lived down south for 10 years now and it doesn't compare to the racial divide in the D. Damned shame. Such a beautiful town. It's where my people are from. I miss it everyday, warts and all...

  • a great video, no matter what color you may be.

  • thank you.

    i have a part 2 uploaded, a year newer.

  • i get racist comments from every race you can think of. the only race i hate is the human one

  • I was in the last graduating class in this school even though '04 was suppose to be the last ones. I'm so upset that this building is just sitting there rotting like that. I guess its just another building in the growing graveyard of buildings in this fine city.

  • fuck you

  • i laughed when you guys were sitting in the class the one smoking the cig and the other guy flippin the bird

  • lol thanks man

  • I, for one, thank you for posting this. It was bittersweet looking at it, but it sure brought back memories. I went to CT in the late '70s---walked those same steps. The worst part for me was seeing the ceramics room. That was my favorite class, with Mrs. Lewton. All that stuff was just left there?!?!?!? I can't believe it. So sad, and such a waste. My aunt even went there. It would have been nice to have seen a few more generations come out of Cass.

  • whoever called this guy a racisist, is a cherry picking ass with nothing better to do. i dont even understand how you could make the connection toward racism, tell me, how?

  • I was unaware that exploring and racism go hand in hand...

  • If you lived in the D you'd understand, somebody started a website called ,detroit is crap. All kind of racist stop on that website, showing old run buildings and shit.

  • Understood, Boston is a totally different place than Detroit so my opinion will be flawed that is for certain. My point is that I don't think it is fair to pass to judgement on this video, the creater of the video, or anyone in the videos for that matter without knowing the intent behind it. If you knew these guys, you would know they are very proud to be a part of Detroit.

  • amen

  • A new school was built 2 blocks over, stop tryin to make Detroit look bad asshole, many big cities are bad.People hate Detroit becuase Blacks run it.Grow up you racist ass

  • im a racist because i go into abandoned buildings? i dont think so. in fact, youre obviously the racist in this case.....you see a white guy make a video in detroit and automatically come to a conclusion based on my color. YOU, my friend, are the racist!and just so you know, the new cass tech was built RIGHT next door, not 2 blocks away.

is there anything else you care to be wrong about?

  • I know where the new school and the old shools are,no big deal.missed it by one corner,so shhot me.Anyway, people are alwayse bashing Detroit, the have a website called detroit is crap,I was just tryinh to defend Detroit ,thats all.Nothing racist about that.

  • i love detroit. i was raised at greenfield and schoolcraft, hardly the suburbs. you left a comment calling me a racist because im white and make videos of detroit. so basically, you say i have no right to make a video about a city that i love, because i am white and that i must be from novi.

THAT is as racist as it gets dude.

some day, when these awesome buildings are replaced with parking garages, plain steel and glass buildings, or just a hole in the ground, youll thank me for these videos.

  • OK Holmes,my bad.Like I said.I thought you were trying to dis Detroit.I grew up in southwest detroit, but also lived in the hood you just said. On Abbington, between Glendale and Fulerton,I went to Dossin.

    Vaya en pas mi hermano

  • Comment removed

  • Agreed, but the majority of people left in detroit are renters who don't take care of the properties like if they owned them.Which leads to the decline of the areas they are located in.Detroit's tax base is on the decline too, because of Blacks fleeing the city for the burbs.

  • As with other cities experiencing these types of problems, the geographical size stays the same as the populations shrinks. Therefore, you still have to police it, plow the streets, pick up the garbage while you tax base can't cover everything, Unfortunately for Detroit, they have elected people to the school board who were more interested in getting a nice salary, a free car and chauffeur than they were of serving the parents and students of the district. Now they won't make decisions needed.

  • Yes most large cities going through this same thing do not get the bum rap that Detroit does.Detroit is the most segrgated city in America.Whites and Blacks hate eachother here with a passion seen like nowhere else but here. You have to live here to understand it.We Latinos are cought in the middle of their racist war up here.

  • I agree that there is a tremendous problem between the races. The only way to do anything about it is to elect competent people to the offices that govern the city and schools. Sadly, that has been the achilles heel in Detroit for many years, save for Dennis Archer. When I was young, Birmingham, AL. was the most segregated city in the US. Now it is Detroit. This was at one time one of the great American cities.

  • Don't you think that if someone wanted to be a racist ass, they could find an easier way to do it than spending all day exploring a building and then spending all night editing a video? It would be a lot easier to just point at an ignorant motherfucker like you as evidence, wouldn't it?

  • Fuck off you stupid asshole, your the ignorant mother fucker.Talking out your ass like that..People From the suburbs always dogging Detroit. That's what I was trying to point out.Stop swinging on my nut sack.

  • "People from the suburbs"? I'm from Brightmoor, we initially moved to the burbs under difficult circumstances so I guess it's ok for me to dog Detroit then? Whatever the case, I love this city, but I'd be lying if I told anyone that Detroit wasn't in bad shape. I don't see what's racist about that. I stay in the burbs now for several legit reasons. I live 8 miles from work, Detroit taxes, Home value issues, crime rate statistics and insurance rates. Other than that I'd prefer Detroit living.

  • Defend Detroit all you want, I'm right there with you. But don't call R3d a racist for exploring a fucking building and pointing out the corruption that obviously contributed to what we're seeing in this video. Pulling the race card just makes you look like a cross-eyed mouthbreather.

  • @arntzville -WTF are you parnoid??!!?? What's racist about this? Your brain is charcoal.

  • HOW DID TALL GET IN THEIR

  • It was just abandoned when the new one was built.

  • Thanx, I'll send this to my wife, she's a '79 graduate of Cass.

  • Oh wow... I had no idea the school moved. I did a documentary about the Cass Tech art department back in high school (1994) and won a scholarship for it. It's really sad to see the building in this condition.

  • yeah i attend the new cass. they should do something with this old one like make it a muesum or something.

  • watch part 2, its newer footage and show how bad its getting.

i read in the paper there was a fire in there, i hope its not too bad now

  • there goes kwame like a black tsunami

  • LMAO!!!!!

  • Honestly I believe that fixing up the old school would have been so much better. That would also save that huge big building from being wasted and would have costed so much less.

  • they could have at least re-used some books, or desks, or computers, or televisions...

i could go on and on.

this just proves how corrupt our government is

  • not our goverment i know they should do somthing but its the fault of the city of detroit

  • what do you mean "not our government"?

  • I know it's an odd question but what did the inside of the building smell like?

    I'm a native Detroiter.

  • depends on what part you're in i suppose.

most of it smelled like many other abandoned buildings...

like it needed to be aired out.

once theyve sat for a while, they get musky.

  • Right now, i wish the city would have just fixed that one up the right way and cleaned out the things in that buliding. i know alot of people don't want to hear this, but the new buliding is terrible. it falling apart already. the old building i think would have done the trick. the new building is significally smaller, poorly ventlatd and is poorly built with cheap material. i've never seen the old cass building and i wish i had, but the new building is shameful and the old building is shamful

  • i didnt know the new building was already in bad shape, that sucks. i was by there today, and i really dig the old CT.

kwame set us back years and years. between him and coleman young, we may never get back on track.

  • hey, i go there now and let me tell you, that school is being wasted. the bums are breaking in and doing what ever and all the city can do is just board it up. I know the alumni have memories, but from a cass tech student who walks by that buling eveyrday, that building is a hazard. If that building catch fire, the new buliding can go down too.

  • That's not wasteful or anything...... did they ever hear of an auction to put all those good things in the hands of someone who can use them? WTF?

  • nope.

everything that wasnt stolen is ruined

  • he should of went to eight floor like I did 1994 whats up class 1995

  • i have like 75 videos on here.

prolly 70 of them were shot in and around detroit.

after the riots on 1967, everyone with money moved out to the burbs. leaving detroit to rot.

there hasnt been a decent government in the d since. everyone has been corrupt, caring more about lining their pockets instead of doing good for the city and helping their felow man.

its sickening. detroit used to be one of the best cities in the country, now, we're the worst.

  • MAn WTF!!# Ok, this is J. Epps, CT c/o 1994 and what the hell is this? You mean to tell me not only is the building falling apart, it was never even cleaned out? Floppy disks, computers, books and stuff just laying around inside? That is just shameful!!! I haven't been inside the new CT, just the football field, but it was heartbreaking to see my old chemistry classroom like that, damn beakers and bunsens still in there rotting! Damn Kwame ... fucking up all the way around.

  • this video was shot last summer. i recently had another look inside, and the place is just a horrible mess now.

t.v.s are all smashed up, computers have been broken/stolen/gutted, all the copper wire is gone, and im guessing all the pipes are gone as well. it doesnt look like they took a single thing with them when they moved...

    not even school records.

in fact, i saw a yearbook with kwame in it

the whole damn city should be ashamed, i know i am.

  • NOO NOO NOO!! man naw hell naw, there's no way school records are still in that building. You are really making me want to come home now and go up in there with you. I would come out with truckloads of shit.

  • i didnt mean to scare you dude.

we didnt find a lot of school records, but yes there were some left behind.

i think most of that shit has been put on computers by now.

have you heard about tiger stadium?

  • yeah detroit is in terrible shape. for a while, it really looked like we were gonna turn things around. some things are still looking up, but other things are completely fucked.

i dont even understand why they had to build a new cass tech anyway. there wasnt anything wrong with the old one, till they left it empty and uncared for.

    how did we get in?

stupid scrappers just break in, steal as much as they can, and leave the building open.

it gets sealed, then they break it open again!

  • so can anybody tell me what happened to the 20 odd windows that just up and disappeared

  • its safe to say scrappers had something to do with it.

were they lower floors or upper?

  • Sad to see-I graduated from Cass a lifetime ago-In the 80's they promised every year to renovate--took forever to fulfill the dream they left dancing in our heads-but finally "The Pickle Factory" has been transformed or transferred into a BEAUTIFUL new structure. Something constructive ought to be done with the original building though. Maybe graduates can organize and raise funds to 'really' renovate it. Once the city gets new leadership, hopefully good things will happen in the D & CASS again.

  • This is jacked up... I know it wasn't in the best condition to begin with but still, this is messed up.

  • you can see evidence of it all over the place, you just gotta look hard. watch some of my other vids.

downtown is starting to look a lot nicer, but there are areas that are largely ignored.

i guess ya gotta start some where.

we should start by electing people who care about the city/state

  • yeah i didnt see any evidence of a fire inside, but i went thru the lower floors quickly.

it was too dark to shoot pix and video cuz of the boards on the windows.

i drove by this morning , and half the windows are broken out.

sometimes detroit can be really depressing

  • i havent been in the new one (i usually only go where i know there wont be any people), but yeah, theres no reason to leave this historic building like this.

everyone involved should be fired (along with kwame)

  • lol

its a damn shame the things they waste OUR money on, aint it?

  • we chose.

check out some of my other videos

  • we're ninjas

    ;)

  • When was this video recorded? Ive wondered what it looks like inside

  • a little over a year ago.

  • this vid was on the detriot news

  • yeah so thats why im disabling the comments

  • Nice work

  • i used to live near by there hinden was the school cop nice work on the video there mental ward by i-75 and i think congress east side of servise drive my friend was lockup there once been shutdown since 93 thanks john engler

  • hey where that pig hinden at i mean cop

  • huh?

  • damn shame... I got my very first piece of pussy in that building! Memories... Class of 1984!!!

  • why would you come on here and talk shit?

    nothing better to do?

    get a life.

oh and kwame got in and graduated, so none of it means anything.

  • Of course Ill keep on watching. These vids are fascinating.

  • The same thing started to happen here dude. Finally, we got a mayor that decided to do something with the empty buildings downtown. It always strikes me when they leave a place like this and others, it just looks like they left and never showed back up. Looks like they could find a use for all the stuff like the desks and all.

  • every building starts off like this.

eventually some kids come in with backpacks and take "souvineers"...then people take shit to sell on ebay...then the copper wires and pipes get scrapped...no one maintains the buildings, so the windows and roof start to leak, and the next thing ya know, what used to be an awesome building is a hollowed out piece of shit thats too expensive to fix, and too expensive to tear down.

whatever, you keep watching these, and ill keep bringin a camera with me when i go
