as an orthodox Jew i can explain thus: it is a paragraph said in the starting of the yom-kippur(day of forgiveness). it is a prayer to g-d to cancel all vows said committed to g-d, for example:ill start learning more Torah(Jewish studies). for the record, it bears no Halachick(call Halacha rules that you must obey as an orthodox Jew) significance. it doesn't mean you can vow anything and back out. there is a Machloket(call it a debate between rabbis)if it is said from now to next,or vice versa.
The Sephardic version of Kol Nidre asks absolution from last year's vows; the Ashkenazic version from next years'. There is no evidence of a link between Kol Nidre and the inquisition.
a Literal Translation to English , from the MAROCCAN version ( Moors NOT MOOPS ! ;~} from Seinfeld " The BUBBLE BOY " episode ) Okay back to Sbjct : KIL NIDREI IS A " HARCK A PAINFULL CRY FOR FORGINES ( KIPPUR ) Atone ! @newscorner There is a difference of opinion as to whether the prayer should cover past actions or the future. Both versions are used today, depending on tradition. My understanding is that the version used by most Jews today dates from the Spanish Inquisition, and was written especially for Jews forced to convert against their will.

it's great, i mean i know that what matters is the meaning of what is being sung, but this is does not sound sefaradi, nor from marocco. the accent is more ashkenazi. nevertheless, Kol Nidre is beautiful no matter the way it is sung. thank you for the beautiful post. peace
Noble, gorgeous, spirited, authentic and wonderful. Good Yontif!!!!!! Stunning version of Kol Nidre, and handsome wonderful Moroccan Jewish People, sounds and photos. Makes me shudder with respect and reverence!!! I'm humbled, and I ask the Lord for forgiveness for wrong I have done this last year!!! HG
This is a beautiful melody. The origin though is Spain (although at that time continuous with Morocco.) It is sung in nearly identical manner by North Moroccan, Spanish & Portuguese Jews in Holland & Italy.
@safiamaz your religion is shadows the jews religion...meaning its very similiar ...your mohamed followed the semetic teachings and he observeHd their holidays and fasts.
The Amazigh people have appreciated the Jewish part of their history. But why're the Israilians so violent? Do they forget the eternal reason to see them as the cause of evil after They killed The Son of God??? They denied The Son of God al the time......
Actually, there ARE sons of G-d. This was sort of saying in Israel in Joshua's time, for good persons. The opposite was "son of Belial" or "son of Beltzebub". Equivalent today would be "great guy" or "evil shit" (or something like this...). In Ancient Rome, it was "fortissimus vir" or "greatest man".

GOD purposely blinded the Jews eyes so that the Gentiles could come to Salvation! The day is coming soon when Jews will see and Israel will be saved. Read the Book of Hebrews (in the Bible BTW)
You have unbelievable chutzpah calling yourself "hatorah", preaching a paganistic philosophy in direction opposition to everything the Torah stands for. How dare you promote idol worship on a video of Kol Nidrei, one of the holiest songs in Jewish liturgy on the holiest day of the Jewish year.
@mitchwas Well how do you determine a ''real" Jew? ..I've heard this debate all my life ...well, whatever they may have been they certainly have suffered the most persecution for being Jews , so if conversion didn't do it, then maybe circumcision and adhering to Judaism for centuries but the persecution and if the injustices they suffered for 2 milennia maybe it took the Holocaust to qualify them as REAL JEWS! cultural opportunists?
@mitchwas That theory dismisses the fact that there were Jewish communities in Europe before the Khazars. It also ignores that fact that Ashkenazi Jews still share certain genetic markers with Sephardic Jews.
The Khazars died out. Their line no longer exists.
Nice to hear this. Im not Sefarad. Always wanted to ask what is the situation with the indeginious Berber people ( sorry Amazigh, right?) in the North Africa? Any hope of breaking free from arab colonial rule. ?
@danb874u Arab colonial rule? There is no such thing in 2010 EVERY Amazigh country is Independent...from European colonial rule : Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia from France; Libya from Italy...the Canary Islands are 2 provinces of Spain.
All except the Canaries were Arabicized and predominantly Islamic ...Arab colonial rule?
I'm Ashkenazi and I find both versions of kol nidre equally beautiful and haunting. I have the whole Moroccan/Sephardic high holiday cd by Eyal Bitton and it's amazing.

With all due respect, Granada was Moorish the sonce is therefore Moroccan. May Hashem bless all those whose hearts bear good will. May all Jews return to their homeland Morocco.
Most Morrocan jews have immigrated to Europe, huge numbers to Argentina and Meico, there are many in Northern Mexico and to the USA and CAnada, many in Miami,L.A. and Toronto,as well as huge numbers in Australia and South Africa.
A call to all Moroccans of all faith: PLEASE ALWAYS PUT NATIONALITY BEFORE RELIGION OR ANY OTHER CONSIDERATION. Those Jews or even Moslems who left Morocco, they did that by their own complete decision under NO pressure. Some regreted leaving Morocco, I heard about some examples. Anyway, Morocco's doors are ALWAYS open to all its sons: Moslems or Jews. Bilad Al Amn Walaaman for all Moroccans, No discrimination at all. Kolouna Awlad Adam....
That is not exactly true. The Spanish side of Morocco was always hostile to the Jews, and inmediately after the independence of Israel there were pogroms and even slaughters against Jews in many parts of the country
You're asking Moroccan Jews to put the country before Hashem? No way. G-d is always first and foremost. Countries come and go, nationalities come and go...but G-d's calling is eternal.
if we talk history, germany knew that it was a lot of jew livinig in morocco, bu thanks to the moroccan kings, whoom along 900 years defended the moroccan jews, i thanks the realisator of this video, a big hello from a tangier moroccan brother.
morocco is an ethnically diverse countryith a rich culture and civilization.moroccan hosted many people coming from est (phonicians carthaginians jews arabs)and north (romans vandals andalousians"including moors and jews")all those civilizations have had an impact in the social structure of morocco it conseived various forms of believes from paganism judaism christianity to islam.
To my dismay, I had never had the opportunity to hear the Sephardim version of Kol Nidre. It is as beautiful, but in a different way...from the Ashkenazim version. THANK you so much for posting this wonderful video. It brings back deep memories of times past when some Arabs welcomed Jews and didn't want to kill them...
Beg to differ. The Baathist Party (The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem)vigorously joined the Nazis. Ever since then, most Arabs regard Israel as an "interloper" on Arab lands, despite the fact that Jews lived in the ME for 4000 years. Almost every Arab Country kicked out the Jews (exception Morocco and Turkey), and did not compensate them for their lost properties.
mrn93: Absolutely true. Be sure to read "Jewish Continuous Presence in the Land of Israel and The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict" (Paperback) by Prof. Harold J. Margolis. This describes (in detail) the archaelogical evidence of Jews in the ME at least 1,000 years before tribes that called themselves Muslims or Arabs.
While i do support the jewish people, despite being only somthing like 1 200th jew, I do recognize that not all the arabs want to kill jews just many of them do. they seem to have a bigger voice than the ones who want peace though.
I'm not sure what "1/200th "Jew means in terms of genetic history. But it might very well have been "enough" to land you in a Concentration Camp in 1942. Nazis often did detailed studies of family histories to determine "Jewishness."
Words cannot describe the beauty of this lead singer singing this song. It is absolutely the most beautiful thing I have ever heard sung in my entire life. I am not Jewish, but I have great respect for your religion. Thank you for sharing this. May we all live in peace.
