Cute, but kinda f***ed up. The big eyes are adorable, and the ears too- I'll give you that... but I am creeped out by what selective breeding has done to these cats. Why would short legs be a good idea?! They have to be indoor cats because they are vulnerable to predators! I mean, come on. That is not normal that they can never be real cats and explore even a garden.

its the breed. Folds have the short legs, but there quiet a bit stronger then regular cats legs. its like with bob cats. they may be smaller, but it doesnt really hurt them. theyer indoor cats, so having long legs isnt important for them.

Well from what I know, heard and read :D, this munchkin is in great demand, which always exceeds supply. Waiting lists can be long and they are not as expensive, and rare as they once were, however if you are flexible about gender, color, and pattern, your wait will be shorter. And nope, you are not talking away, that's good to know (abou the dog) :D

hey tehnatsu, I believe the front legs are shorter than the back legs on scottish fold cats, but yes you're right...the legs are shorter than a normal cat.

It's a genetic mutation known as Munchkinism. Some people deliberately breed Munchkin cats, as they're a relatively new "breed" and not much is known about defects and stuff. As far as most can tell, Munchkin cats have fulfilling and healthy, long lives despite their shortness compared to other cats, even though there's a bit of suspicion regarding back problems later in life.

Munchkinism appears to be quite prominent in Scottish Folds.
