  • this is almost like my gym pal when he's doing squats and leg press.. it's pretty damn funny how more and more people are leaving the room and after a while it's all empty and the other room is full.. hahaha, more weights for us! tho it stinks! hahaha, yeaah.. he's on some stuff if you're wondering ;) the kinds of stuff that mess a lil bit with your pretty insides.. haha

  • Haha!! That's hilarious! I was doing pullups til failure one time, and on the last one, I farted, which just made me almost faceplant because my arms let go from all the laughter lol.

  • it's all in the mind! For example if you're spotting someone when they're bench pressing and they can barely lift the bar you could put two fingers on the bar and push up and they'll lift it. This happened to me today and lifted the bar 3 almost 4 more times than I thought I could :D

  • Actually, assisting with 2 finger helps by a pound or two, which is just enough to allow you to squeez that rep.

  • Technically they are lifting a pound or two but that really isn't a big enough difference for your muscles to actually notice a difference. What I mean by this is that your muscles at any given moment, no matter how hard you're pushing, are only using 60% of their maximum capacity. If they used more they would literally break.

    So one pound or two less isn't really going to make a difference at all but if you believe you can't push it up you won't.

  • Yes, a pound or two is enough to enable someone to lift beyond failure.

    How much muscle fibres are recruited depends on the CNS training i.e neural strength, the frequency and strength of electric impulses generated by motor neurons in the cortex of the brain and the core of spine. So if someone fails at, let's say 10 th rep, that means he's got the strength to lift it, but his muscles are exhausted by then and needs to be helped just a little bit to squeeze out that rep.

  • So like I sad, it only takes a gram over the maximum amount of weight you can lift at a certain moment to fail.

    You're just comforting yourself and fooling yourself that you can lift the weight for more reps than you actually can. It's not all in the head, if you can't do it, you can't do it, period.

  • You can expect this during deadlifts, squats and benchpresses as the core is strongly stressed and it's easy to relax your butt lol

  • Plenty of dudes (and dudettes) who do that in my gym without the aid of a sound effect machine lol
