Technically they are lifting a pound or two but that really isn't a big enough difference for your muscles to actually notice a difference. What I mean by this is that your muscles at any given moment, no matter how hard you're pushing, are only using 60% of their maximum capacity. If they used more they would literally break.
So one pound or two less isn't really going to make a difference at all but if you believe you can't push it up you won't.

Actually, assisting with 2 finger helps by a pound or two, which is just enough to allow you to squeez that rep.
