I'm not a huge religious person... I listened to this song when I was very young over and over and over. It did not 'brain wash' me. All I can remember is feeling happy while listening to it. I think we are all over-thinking this a bit.
These kids are just aming! They are wonderful singers and I don't think it's possible to dislike them. I can't say enough good things about these special children.
I'm pretty appalled by the silly, fun way these children about singing about mass death on a global scale. In this story, which many believe is literally true, god deliberately commits genocide, drowning men, women, children, and animals to perpetrate a massacre that tops anything Hitler, bin Laden, or Hussein ever did. It's a horrific story of violent revenge from a psychotic deity, and these children have been taught to sing happily about it.
@thirtysilver The Lord MY God flooded the world because sin had run rampant and He had no other choice. He saved the righteous, the ones who still obeyed Him and the commandments He gave for them to follow. This is also where the significance of the rainbow comes in. After the Flood, God promised the world that He would NEVER flood the Earth on a scale like that. Genesis 8:21 it is right there for you to look up. That was His promise. Genesis 7:1 is the beginning of the story of the Flood.
@choirboy1122 "He had no other choice." Isn't your god supposed to be omnipotent? How can he have no other choice if he can do anything? Aren't all options - all choices - open to him at all times? I'm sorry, but this is a story in which this god commits genocide. The fact that he promised never to do it again means nothing. There is no moral justification for genocide.
This song seemed nice when I was a kid, but what the story was actually about went over my head. I'm not going to pretend that I know much about the bible, but it sounds like god killed a planet full of people. I really want to be a good christian, but I'm not going to worship a god that kills that many people, that to me just isn't a loving god. Can someone please help me with my spiritual crisis
@velociraptorgum HE did this because, if you read Genesis chapter 6; Especially 6:5, the world was all wicked. people were really really evil. The flood was to start a new slate.
@JoshezDodge It still just doesn't sound right to me. I hope I'm wrong, but I assume those people went to hell which is a place of eternal suffering no matter what they did I don't believe they should suffer eternally I don't think anyone deserves that which makes me wonder why god would invent something like hell
One thing you should know is that the idea of an eternal Hell is not Biblical. The wages of sin is death, not eternal life in Hell. I know most churches teach that Hell will last forever, but there are many Bible verses that show this is not correct. A loving God would never torture His children forever.
It's hard to understand God destroying people in the flood, but I think as some people have said, when there's so much sin,God had to step in order to save his people.
Every greek word in the N.T. that refers to eternity has eternal connotations to it. Jesus Himself--and we are talking about the God who created the universe said that that state was never ending. When Jesus refered to Judas Iscariot He said "it would have been better for him to never have been born." This is the only place of non-existance where the fate of an individal is discussed and it had to do with pre-life-not eternity. It is clear--DOOM IS HORRIBLE BUT AVOIDABLE...
What about Malachi 4:1 that talks about the wicked being stubble? It's true that the Bible often uses the words everlasting in reference to punishment, but when you look at the whole Bible, this doesn't fit so well. Death is death, not everlasting life. I see the everlasting refering to the consequences of sin. The death will be eternal, but it won't last forever. Otherwise there would always be sin in a sinless universe.
@velociraptorgum People were true evil and there was NO good in them and not changing your way or listening to God I believe deserves that. Being evil all the time deserves this.
God is the only one that can create , so when God kills as it is stated he had to do it for the betterment of all else to see, and make it new , it was not Gods fault the world was so bad , satan currupted it all , so God had to make it anew
@velociraptorgum yes, I simply don't believe the bad stuff in the Bible. I mean a loving God wouldn't order the Genocide of the Amalek people for example. Send me a message, I would be glad to discuss my views with someone.
@SuperDrSmart Taken out of context, we would also conclude that a doctor who chops off the arm of his patient can't possibly be a good doctor. But sometimes it's the least worst of options. That's what I have concluded about these events. They were the least of the bad options. God doesn't take pleasure in the destruction of anyone; and it's always a last resort. But in a few situations, He had no choice.

@MrJmartin05 I refuse to believe that a planet-wide massacre was the least bad option. What would you consider a worse one? Also, I reiterate: an omnipotent god cannot be limited. Why couldn't he have done anything else? He's supposed to have created the entire universe from sheer will, right? Why did his power fail him here?
@singlelifew2girls I would say that making threats isn't very godly, but it's actually about as godly as you can get. "Worship me or suffer" is not the command of a benevolent ruler. Compulsory love is a disgusting idea. It's a shame that, even with the very perpetrator of the mass murder under discussion on your side, you didn't attempt to answer any of my questions. Such a violent god unworthy of worship. The morality of creating thinking creatures and demanding that they worship you is questionable.
