We often play the movie just to enjoy the different styles of music. Though the movie itself is very well made. I like how it transitions from one country to another through the eyes of the young ones. Portrays a lively and lighthearted feel despite the hardships. Two thumbs up. ;)

Latcho Drom has never come out on DVD in North America and that is totally criminal! There is much great music within it equal to this fantastic sequence.

I have seen bootlegs of it on eBay and other places. Hopefully who ever owns the rights will wake up some day!!!!!!!

Reinhardt was Sinti indeed. But I in the end Roma's and Sinti's are from the same gipsy race. Sinti's claim they aren't. But that's not true. The question of Joeocho88 was kind of stupid. Last names were given in Napoleons period. In that time the Sinti's were in France a long time so they had been given european names.

Django Reinhardt was Manouche, not Sinti, different "tribes" but still Rom. Grappelli wasn't Rom at all, he was a Frenchman who happened to team up with Django in the 30s. Between them, they created a unique approach to jazz which we now call "gypsy jazz," but they would have been baffled by that term back then, it was just jazz to them.

Not exactly. The Gypsies from France are Sinti and French Sinti call themselves Manouches,sometimes Kalé. So Sinti is something like an umbrella term for Manouches. So that's why I suppose Django was first of all a Sinto and after that a Manouche.
