Let's not reduce the concept of Hijab to simply a protection against Rape. This is why western women including converts muslims, and even a few unfortunate cases badly influenced raised muslims simply can't fathom the importance of Hijab as prescribed and practiced traditionally in its traditional sense. Hijab is an observation like Salaat, a process of purification like Salaat, and it's not simply a shield against harassment, but more importantly an opportunity to be close to Allah !

Women can ask monogamy as a condition in their marriage contract,anyway for men is required to have a strict equality between women,and if he is not equitable,would make a serious error.that's the reason why is recomended to marry just one.Anyway, nowadays poligamy is not very common,it was mainly used in war times when population had decreases and lot of women lost their husbands in the battles or stayed single. I have to add that contrary to catholicism,islam admits divorce.
