Some folk's comments that the timing is off or things like that are gay lame comments because if you think you know this already then why are you watching a basic on2 video?
Your teaching of the steps in Eddie Torres style is clear and direct, and you clearly say that you are teaching Eddie Torres style (1,2,3 5,6,7) and not Palladium style (2,3,4 6,7,8), yet why, when you come to demonstrate the steps to music at about 4:25, you perform them in Palladium style (2,3,4 6,7 8)???? Very frustrating. To be fair however, you are not alone in this inconsistency. Can you direct me to a clip showing anyone actually performing Eddies Torres NY style salsa?
There is no switch to the Palladium style at 4:25. The dancing remains on the On2 Eddie Torres style without steps being taken on counts 4 and 8. Watch again carefully and count the timing. :)
@StepintoSalsa Sorry, have watched many times and can still see you stepping on the 4 and the 8 rather than the 1 and 5. Check it out at around 4:50 - it's very clear! I think the reason for the "smoothness" that NY On2 is reputed to have comes largely from the slow transference of weight across the two beats 8-1 and then 4-5. In other words the ball of the foot generally gets planted on the 4 and the 8 but weight transfer continues to the 5 and 1 respectively.
This is my favorite salsa video on YouTube. Very informational and it looks like too much fun! You two make it look too easy. I need to learn this. I will be in touch. Thanks!
Nice and I prefer the way the rhythm take places as that. Unfortunately not very common, here where I live, most dance on 1 and it looks like a binary dance, as I understand it the on one way was done to simplify access to the dance ( ?)
Congratulations ! This is the best instructional video I’ve seen to-date on NYC Salsa On 2. Your verbal explanation and physical instruction is excellent for both the male and female dance perspective. Thanks so much for sharing this lesson with us. Getting all my dancing buddies on board with the flawless technique you demonstrate.
These two are incredible instructors! I have taken a class with Sheena and Cesar and they are great. Clear instruction and they move at a pace of the ability of the class not leaving anyone behind or lost.

In response to the questions...is there more than one way to dance Salsa on2? The answer is yes. The style taught in this video is the Eddie Torres, NY Style Salsa danced on counts 1,2,3 5,6,7. The other style of On2 Salsa is called Palladium Style Salsa. It is the style danced in Ballroom Mambo. If you notice in the Eddie Torres style the forward and back breaks are still on 2 & 6, but you have an additional forward and back step before the breaks which tend to give it a smoother feel.
