  • that's so shit

  • Yes fukk those dumbys who no make good time with wurdz.

  • i fink grmaar is vary importent

  • I have no doubt in my mind that the first customer for this product would have been the US Navy.

  • you can see the ball continues to accelerate through water instead of slowing down by the dragging force of water... which is pretty awesome... if you don't understand the point of this video, you dont even deserve those 6 seconds back. stop bitching

  • I want my 6 seconds back, all just to watch a ball that is scared of water WTF

  • Just imagine a missile which uses the principles of superhydrophobics and supercavitation. Very scary!

  • OMG!!! Imagine your body covered with that stuff and diving in the ocean, you'll go straight to the bottom!!

  • what does the hydrophobic nano-layer do?

  • @dsouzand it makes it so water can't attach to it so something

  • Does this mean that the ball has less resistance when passing through the water?

  • Ok, now try that with a dimpled glass 'golf ball' coated in the superhydrophobic nanostuff.

  • @EinhanderSn0m4n That would turn itself inside out!

  • @snowypetrel How so exactly? It's just the same thing we see here, except the glass ball has dimples before the coating process.

  • Comment removed

  • it just seems that when a ball is dropped into water it would create that jet flow behind it anyways, or displacement, and showing it in slowmo would only support that theory because the water would take a second to close behind it, sorta like when you cannon ball into a pool, except thats on a much larger scale and the displacement acts a little different. anyways tahts my two cents.

  • I dont get it

  • Balls to you

  • AND THENN.........??

  • stupid Assasin's Creed ad; I can't see the ball. Sheesh.

  • @GaolisVideoLog Firefox + adblocker extension == bye bye youtube ads :-)

  • @carpii that doesn't work for ads within the video itself...of course you can just exit those out though so i don't see what the problem is

  • @The3rdPlateau It does, but you have to go into adblocker prefs and enable the experimental 'disable youtube ads'. Its not 100%, but will suppress most of the ads which pop up at the bottom of the vid

  • The video was shortened by Youtube! This video was originally from Newscientistvideo and bitch ass Youtube either deletes or shortens your videos to 6 seconds for copyright infringement. Youtube acts like little bitches some times!

  • hydrophobic means afraid of water right? so why did it go into the freakin water

  • @FreeRealmsInvader I think in this context it meant that the nano-layer repels water... I think?

  • @FreeRealmsInvader LOL it doesn't mean that it is literally afraid of water, it just means that it has a tendency to avoid water

  • @supergenius1994 hydrophobic means something that has a tendency to avoid water. it isn't literally afraid of water because it doesn't exhibit consciousness. thought that would've been easy to figure out...have you never heard the term hydrophobic before? it's widely used in the scientific community, and I figured in the public as well...maybe not...

  • @supergenius1994 lol my bad that was for freerealms

  • @FreeRealmsInvader dude if you didnt notice, the water pushed away from the ball :/

  • This video makes me horny.

  • How is that different from a glass ball coated in glass?

  • this is a nano-video...

  • i want my 6 sec back

  • @aaronlikesalex +6 u spend to type this lol

  • It's the same basic principle as the "space sand" science toy, if you've ever heard of it. (Hydrophobic sand can be dropped into water to make sculptures, but is completely dry when you reach in and pull it out)

  • ...so now we have semi-superfluid? or what, what is this in scientific terms?

  • its a ball covered in water repellant nanoparticles. the fluid is regular water.

  • Why go through the trouble to post such a short video?

  • @illroy77

why go through the trouble on commenting on such a "useless" video?

  • @illroy77 this short video has over 99,000 views. seems like it was worth it.

  • @illroy77 To get the full impact of the video you should also watch the hydrophilic ball video.

  • um what does this do create a waterproof seal on the surface of the ball only nanometers thick? whats the point of that soz :P

  • It makes a cool splash?

  • Would you rather waterproof the surface using a method that requires more than a few nanometes? What exactly is your definition of a surface?

The point of this is to 'waterproof the surface of things which you do not want to be wet'. Like maybe clothes, or the walkway around a pool, or electronics, or paper.

  • Imagine a car windshield without the need for windshield wipers because the rain bounces off of it.

  • @Fisherdec Yeah, it's called RainX.

  • @tessautech lmao

  • so the nano layer is scared of water?

  • what's the point of this

  • waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too short, goddamn.

  • whats so intresting ?

  • O.O RAIN-X!!

  • ORRRRR..what about making a sex lube..HMMMM..??

  • ahem!!! its a drawing!!!!

  • nope, not at all

  • ahem! im pretty sure your wrong

  • you're

  • That's my name.

  • yeaya!

  • Bad grammar is the root of all evil!

  • Bad grammar is the label of all stupidity.

  • bad gramer be fun tho

  • @masterpiraka Science is for nerds, the devil, and tom cruise :<

  • @masterpiraka only ppl that think this are stupid

  • @masterpiraka i might think of it more like the result of lack of proper opportunity for education. SOMETIMES ITS NOT THEIR FAULT! i struggle with horrible spelling and hand writing and i am far from stupid or lacking in character.

  • @benjorgensen1 Lack of education is a lazy excuse. The need to read is all around you everyday. Streetsigns, menus, the internet, contracts (if you've ever applied for anything like a loan there's reading to be done), and many other times that reading skills are needed. For someone to go through school and not even grad but to make it to high school, then through life not being able to read you need to put effort into avoiding it. Thats stupid in every form. ITS THEIR FAULT!! Grow up and try.

  • @benjorgensen1 And being able to read means having the ability to spell. You're the same as most other lazy people. Your problems are not your fault. It's someone elses. Must be the teachers fault, right? You mean you didn't have someone over your shoulder screaming at you to do whats expected of you through life so it's their fault. Everything is always someone elses fault. Take some responsibility. How many time did you try, get frustrated and stop trying. Your fault all the way. No excuses.

  • @MaritimeEast Unless they're dyslexic, in which case saying that sort of thing makes you come across as a bit of a dick.

  • @ImMichaelTaylor My statement is obviously directed at those who blame others for their laziness. Creating hypothetical scenarios makes you come across as a bit of a dick.

  • @MaritimeEast Was it?

  • @masterpiraka

even for Einstein or any person with knowledge about and understanding of anything-----everyting else could count as stupid because of their skill in grammar?

  • @masterpiraka or they might be foreign

  • @masterpiraka Poor spelling and grammar are not a result of a lack of intelligence, but rather a lack of diligence.

  • @masterpiraka You are right in that it is popular to believe that bad grammar is evidence of low intelligence; however, even then, this is only evidence and not proof. Besides, bad grammar is also evidence of exceptional intelligent. Some geniuses, for example, view the universe in a more raw form, and so have difficulty comprehending man-made systems, such as English. To condemn a person as stupid only because they demonstrate bad grammar is not only ignorance, but stupidity in itself.

  • @blanknot whoa... my mind just exploded, you are a genius! /kneel *not sarcastic*

  • @masterpiraka

Whinging about grammar is the hallmark of the boring pendant.

  • @masterpiraka I've met far too many intelligent people with horrible grammar and far too many stupid people with impeccable grammar to believe that.

  • @masterpiraka bad grammer u stupid

  • @masterpiraka

I think you mean "poor grammar."

  • I would imagine for the least amount of resistance possible.

  • if that's the case......... lame. whatever that ball's made of (plastic/glass/?) is already hydrophobic. why coat it in wax?

  • Here's a better comparison: You know those fabrics that can repel stains because liquids tend to run off of them instead of being absorbed? It's more like that, and there's a lot of good applications for it.

  • oh. that makes sense. interesting

  • i am stupid. plx explain the difference between a normal ball and a hydrophobic one?

  • hydrophobic = Repels water.

Hydrophobic nanolayer = tiny structures on the surface that repels water

  • the ball will never make contact with the water?

  • Erm, I don't know about this case in particular, But i don't think it does. It's basically like coating something in wax, but this uses an extremely thin layer (Don't know what material the layer is made of though) put on using special techniques.

  • SOOOO 3 quesions.

Is a pane of glass with this nanolayer pattern on it transparent enough to be used as a windshield in a car?

How much does this pattern cost?

Won't water just bounce off the windshield?

  • Maybe some kind of projectile could be invented that would dissipate a tsunami before it hit ground

  • sorry: wrong concept!! I wash themselves in alchol and use a hydrophobic cream on the hands and feet :D

  • or have them paint themeselves with a hydrophobic cream, except for the bits they have to push the water with :D

  • i guess you could use this info to make boats and ships a lot more efficient

  • fascinating science
