1. you can substitute liquids for water but you need to be careful for liquids like milk because of the sugar content. It can "burn" if you don't cool it effectively. I have read others that use tea without a problem.
2. always measure in weight not in fluid oz, weigh everything.

can you substitute any liquid for water when adding lye. Is the fluid oz amount still the same even if it is beer or coke or milk or whatever?

You know I've never tried M&P but I don't see why it wouldn't work. You'd still have the freezer paper to keep easily detach the soap from the mold.
