  • I'm confused. If this is a third-order fractal, then why are the formations rectangular (2-fold symmetry) like with the second order Burning Ship? Shouldn't they be triangular or hexagonal (3-fold symmetry) instead? While the classic 2nd order Mandelbrot features a strait needle, the cubic mandelbrot has only chaotic dendrites, so why does the 3rd order burning ship have somewhat strait needles in it? Also, it somewhat resembles the shape of the perpendicular Mandelbrot but leaning diagonally.

  • Is this fractal generated by iterating the function z=(|Re(z)|+i(|Im(z)|)^3+c and then pltting the 'connected' c points on the complex plane C?

Mind you that resulting picture looks like something from a horror movie!

  • @AndromedaChao2 Wow. Sorry for the 5-month delay in responding.

Essentially, yes. that is the function that's iterated to make the fractal. The images have no sense of what's connected or not, just one-by-one, independently, how each point behaves as the function is iterated, whether it diverges or not.

I *love* the horror movie feel! The Burning Ship fractals (and related Buffalo fractal) generate some really wild, kind of creepy, effects.

  • Astounding! Thrilling! Thank You.

  • @Randenjack I am glad you like it!

  • They are infinite.

  • Sweet! Fractals never get old, haha.

  • awesome work - the fractal, colours and music are spot on.
