If every block has e-ink surface like pixelqi it can be virtually decorated whatever you want, and can be a very cute sweet home. And if the block cell's made of shape changing material, it can not only come out in straight line, - can bend, or change shape, and combine to more complex structure - it will be way more comfortable and ergonomic. All other stuff can be stored in ceiling removable storage.
I have an idea for building a residential area ... Something that can not be found in Romania ... houses in new style, pool, park, etc ... It will be something new for Romania, and anyone would like a house there ... It will cost about ten million euros ... Looking for investor ...
I really enjoyed how this video designed a house for limited space that at least seems like it would be cost-affordable for medium-income, maybe even low-income families and makes efficient use of space. Somethings I'm unsure about though:
1) Say the room is in study mode, and you change it to bedroom, and have a book on your desk, what happens to the book, what happens to people who leave a bunch of stuff on their desk?
2) Can the design be adjusted to accommodate more people?
wouldn't the bed be too hard to sleep on if it is made of the floor, as well as there is not any comfortable seating as no one can sit in a strait back chair for extended periods of time.
im sorry to say but your video is an understatement, and i remeber my step dad talking about how no one from the first computer era thought ever...EVER....that we would ever get this far, and we are doubling in technology every year!!!!
you people dont understand the huge amazing impact of technology thats going to happen 2010-2060 im sure damn excited.
stunningly beautiful concept. so in the future our house is a "shape shifter" , pretty interesting. i do love the modular concept, but not the shape shifting one.
I feel depressed just looking at the house. imgine living in it >.> nice concept tho. but i believe thats where high rise apartments/condos come into play. instead of small cubes with a little bit of garden.
Remember the future houses 50 years ago? and yeah we are still basically living in the same structures. the only thing that really changes is the accessories that the home is equipped with. I think if the overall design changes in the future it will be towards an easier adaptation of new ideas. On another note If the home is completely self-sufficient It would significantly raise unemployment in major cities, leading to nobody being able to afford them leading to pointlessness.
It's an amazing idea, but I think people in the future will have stuff that they would want to be not movalble! Although the idea should be great for hotels! :)
utilitarianism is the reason why i did not become an engineer or a doctor. whatever happened to subjectivity? these people on youtube did not "not get it", your project just failed to evoke excitement because of how objective and dull it is.
Hey guys, thanks a lot for the comments. It's pretty interesting to see you all raise some issues that we didn't thought of too when we designed this concept. =)
However, please bare in mind that this is a concept for the city of the future where space is very limited. If given a choice, I am sure all of us would want to live in mansions with bathrooms the size of a tennis court, a garage to park a 100 cars, but unfortunately not a lot of us will have that luxury in the city of the future.
THIS IS THE DUMBEST FUCKIN CONCEPT IN ARCHITECTURE.....ARE YOU FUCKIN KIDDING ME?........SO WHAT THE FUCK ARE FAMILIES SUPPOSED TO DO WHEN RELATIVES COME OVER FOR THE HOLIDAYS?........HOW IN THE FUCK ARE MY LITTLE GIRL'S SLUMBER PARTIES SUPPOSED TO WORK???...... THIS IS THE CONCEPT OF A PURE ALL-AROUND PIECE OF SHIT DUMMY!!!!!..... AND I FEEL SORRY FOR YOUR MOTHER!!!!!
@single4themoment Where is your your concept? Why you gotta talk like that bud. This is an abstract idea that someone thought of to help add to the betterment of humanity. You and others narsasistic negative vomiting are in impediment to the evolution of our species. Something greater could emerge out this idea. Where is your love, your open mindedness, and your dignity. Start learning how to be kind because we are moving into world of peace and unity where your immaturity has no value at all.
intresting concept, but what about all the elextronicle thigns, computer, tv's etc. living in aplace like that definatly would make people get out more, and it is too boring and generic all the same, but intresting idea
I dont know why but almost every single futuristic video makes me think of the island movie. I like the idea of starting over or making your own little nice town, city, or whatever. This would keep everything new and hopefully keep out the trashy people. I also like the idea of making a futuristic bank, stores, etc. I wounder how much we will have gotten more advanced by then. It seems like by the year 2010 we wouldve at least had more than we do now, flying cars maybe. Idk but i feel ripped off
this is a great vision on cheap houses in the future. Of course we all want to live a large house but maybe houses like these will be necessary in the future.
a 12x12 space with little white cubes coming up to be a chair or table or work space...depending on the need...how long does it take to convert into a bathroom especially in an emergency situation, i.e. vomitting or diarhea? not trying to be silly, just realistic...another scenario...something really sticky and gooey spills in the " living room" right over the area where it transforms into a sink...not very practical.

Id rather still live in rural areas, have a big land, watch the stary sky at night then a fake sky on my 4x4 place. People from the cities are fools and technologies doesnt bring joy it brings lazyness and lonelyness.
It's a great concept, but I found it a little depressing. There is no room for personal expression or individuality. I think that's what makes us unique, and this concept seems to strip people of their basic self expression.
it changes by time of day? does that mean if the bedroom is up then u can't go to the bathroom? or the kitchen? and where do you put your stuff? >.< i'm so confused. but it was an interesting idea and nice design ^^. (if u could, i would like answers to these questions)
@Shannonm22182 Thanks for your interest! If you go to 4:17 you can see that a house consists of at least 2 units, a "living" unit that functions as the bedroom, study, living etc and a "service" unit that holds all wet services like the bath, toilet, kitchen as well as storage spaces. So if the bedroom is up you can still go to the bathroom. Feel free to drop a comment here if you have any questions!
@BorNNafarious you wont be saying that if u live in a city where an inch of space makes all the difference. i get it when ur afraid of small single-room studio apartments, in aus most houses are 4 to 6 times larger than most densely populated world cities like tokyo, hk n mumbai, n this project is really an aim for those group of cities.
n i dont even know why im trying to explain this to a 17 yr o who may have not even stepped out of aus b4.
People who are claustrophobic will have to deal; this design is a very comfortable solution to what will be a global problem in the future: Lack of space for an evergrowing population. The more people there are in the world, the faster more people can be born: It's exponential, and we approaching needs for this technology. To live in a global community means to extend the idea of "living rooms" to an extrafamilial degree. In Asia and Europe, this is the near future... And the USA's after.
@Doko17325 who the hell would buy a house where all furnishings in it are made of blocks?? ill tell you who, nobody. this idea will never sell. im sticking with recyclable materials like shipping containers.
I really don't want to live like this. It's uter crap. And that 'furniture' looks so fucking uncomfortable. 4m by 4m? Claustrophobic. Yeah this isn't a brilliant idea as it is.
