This is going to be a real problem when we see that no one is going to want to go through Medical school and then practice within this system. Doctor will be getting out of school with huge student loans and huge debt and will live life less comfortably than a union employee cleaning toilets at a local school. In your example of schools, the town or state government pay to build the school and pay all the teachers and administrators. In healthcare the Hospital are privately owned and the hospitals pay the employees not the government. That makes heathcare a business.
Yes that is unfortunate fact of life. Many people become doctor because they want to help people, but even more do it for financial reasons. If we start making it hard to earn a high salary as a Doctor we will start seeing less highly intelligent individuals go into that field. The worst part about it is it wasn't always like that. There were a lot of charity run hospitals. Example: the Shiner's hospital were they treat child burn victims takes care of kids who families can not pay for treatment. Doctors use to make a house call and getting sick was not a reason to take out a loan. Now there are a lot of reasons for the fast increase but you can't deny that because we don't pay out pay pocket we are not motivated to shop around or ask why so expensive for one aspirin?

Japan has a great system; Make all health care companies non-profit and limit the pay for executives. People should not be making fortunes off other peoples illness or injury. The huge amount of money skimmed off the top by these health organizations (who also own many of our hospitals) is a major factor in the increase in rates and care. This is going to be a real problem when we see that no one is going to want to go through Medical school and then practice within this system. Doctor will be getting out of school with huge student loans and huge debt and will live life less comfortably than a union employee cleaning toilets at a local school. Shouldn't health care be run like the school system? The ones who can afford the better treatment go to private establishments. The ones who can't afford the best, but want/need decent service, can go to public establishments. Also, it's the law that kids must attend school right? So why shouldn't it be law that one must have health care? They're both services, not businesses, right?

In your example of schools, the town or state government pay to build the school and pay all the teachers and administrators. In healthcare the Hospital are privately owned and the hospitals pay the employees not the government. That makes heathcare a business.

If we start making it hard to earn a high salary as a Doctor we will start seeing less highly intelligent individuals go into that field. The worst part about it is it wasn't always like that. There were a lot of charity run hospitals. Example: the Shiner's hospital were they treat child burn victims takes care of kids who families can not pay for treatment. Doctors use to make a house call and getting sick was not a reason to take out a loan. Now there are a lot of reasons for the fast increase but you can't deny that because we don't pay out pay pocket we are not motivated to shop around or ask why so expensive for one aspirin?

I pay around 90 Euro per month for health care and get complete cover no matter what or if I had a preexisting condition or whatsoever. Any sort of operation is included, home accidents, work accidents and so on. Japan has a great system; Make all health care companies non-profit and limit the pay for executives. People should not be making fortunes off other peoples illness or injury. The huge amount of money skimmed off the top by these health organizations (who also own many of our hospitals) is a major factor in the increase in rates and care. The rates on low risk groups have gone so high, they don't feel the need to participate, small wonder.

A bunch of rich white pricks deciding what is going to happen to millions of poor and middle class people. I wish they were just like regular people, then, maybe, they would be able to have a proper perspective. All it is, is shit talk. Trying to one-up the opposite party. Its immature bullshit, and I know plenty of "regular" people that show a lot more maturity than any of these fat cat pricks. Figure it out, or people get sick and die. That would certainly be a fail for the nation.

BO invited ten senators to meet him at the White House including Jim Matheson of Utah who formerly voted against the bill .President Obama nominated Matheson's brother Scott M. i dont understand why the majority of republicans are opposing this legislation. I'm a republican myself and this healthcare bill is very much just trying to give consumers more leverage in their negotiations with the insurance companies.
There really is no reason to oppose this. This is the farthest thing from socialism i can imagine. Why exactly are my fellow republican's so set against this bill?

I'd like to highlight the fact that most of the preceding conservative posts have defined collectivist (adj) as "of the government" in order to equate the democratic health care plan to that of communist regimes.
They should realize that their uncritical thinking strategies (Obama = COMMUNIST) are precisely what communist regimes prey (&pray) on.
I'd advise the unbiased viewer not to read the rest of these posts, in order to avoid confusion the conservative rabble insist on perpetuating.

I think Dems assume "I" = "we". They assume there is no difference between self interest and collective interest. I think they're trying to address real inefficiencies in how that primal assumption manifests itself in our daily life.

Instead of implying the very thing you are arguing for, you might want to spend more time developing your argument by providing examples of the violation of individual rights that this plan outlines.
And I'm an just going to ignore your premise that collective agenda can not benefit the individual. Unless, of course, you can provide a substantive example of how Health Care hurts people (wow, what a thought). I'm consistently reminded of how glad I am of choosing to remain impartial in my youth.

The GOP Assholes are on the way out They have been caught in soo many lies about reform. I've personally called people in Kentucky, and parts of Ohio, randomly, and most tells me they want reform. In NV., most people want it, especially the Public Option. 56% of Nevadans wants reform, and 62% of us Independents, wants the Public Option also. So that the GOP says how the american people don't want this is a lie. Some may not, but a super majority does. The Dems keep it real. The GOP does not.

This is another disastrous component of the psychosis of collective thinking, when the individual is lost in the collective. Humans have an ability to show tremendous compassion for the individual, yet look the other way while thousands are slaughtered. Just look at outpouring of emotions for the kid down the well stories versus indifference shown to mass killing around the globe and tell me I am wrong.

Even if you don't drive yourself, someone else may drive you on that very road, whether it be a personal vehicle, a work vehicle, a bus or taxi. Chances are, if you're going somewhere in America, it's on a road or sidewalk or from a port of some kind. Access is key.

Health care is not insurance, Health care is a right that every American citizen is entitled to. Insurance is for cars, homes, mortgage in case of accidents then the insurance pays because they took a gamble that nothing would happen. Health is not a gamble things happen you live and then die, health happens... or goes bad, it is the nature of human-beings. You don't buy a car and have an accident, you don't buy a house and it then burns down. Americans deserve health as part of their life.

You have the right whether or not to accept treatment for whatever, but you should have the opportunity to receive treatment if you so desire. If you don't drive a car should you pay for roads to be built?? Not one giant company with control but a provider if one is in need.
