Can I borrow that Goshawk? I've been in a battle with a squirrel for the past several months. He keeps tipping over my bird feeders, even though I have baffles on them... all the baffles do is slow him down a bit. I don't have it in me to do harm to the monster myself, but I wouldn't be heartbroken if a raptor decided to make a meal of him. My friendly neighborhood Red-tailed hawks don't seem interested in the job...
@magickitty0128 You can buy one from a licensed breeder, if you have falconry license. Squirrel hawking can be fun, if you take the necessary precautions.
@PurebredLondon I know that you don't need a posession license in the UK for captive-bred gos, but you still need a hunting permit if you intend to actually fly it at games.
@milvipes no you dont u just need to get permission from whoever owns the land and if its ur land its all good we dont have 'hunting permits' in the uk if you have a bird or shotgun and the quarry your hunting is in season its all good ;) is it different where your from?
Mmmm that looks yummy. But it's weird how we can't kill squirals but then nature goes and does it? Lol.
Where my grandad lives he gets loads inrhis garden so we put traps out and one time when we were going to drop it off this van followed us all the way to the woods, kind of weard
Ive seen two adult Goshawks fighting over a squirrel on my street. And its pretty urban of an area.havent seen them since.A lot of coopers hawks though
@bendover90 Yes they are native to the uk. very rare though. have a lok at pics of sparrowhawks. more likely what you have seen. a large female sparrowhawk could be mistaken for a small male goshawk. Sparrowhaks are very common now, I have one sit on top of my finch aviary sometimes
Very nice vid you put up! Over the last 3 months I"ve trapped (and relocated) 11 squirrels. I'd shoot 'em but we live in the city. I wondered what good squirrels serve and now I see....food
@predstoric Erm, if you'd actually read jotyod's post, you'd see there was no killing. Just trapping and relocating (Sure, the post said "I'd shoot 'em," meaning, "I would shoot them," meaning, there was no actual shooting).
@TJPirate89 when squirrels were rare I wanted them a lot...now the place where I relocated there are many and my novelty wore off....this has happened to many of the ppl I know with an animal/object they desired and then when there was plethora of that stuff..I remember a story from Tasmania where the farmers hunted tasmanian tiger back in the days and by the time they stopped it was too late..tasmanian tigers were extinct....aren't we humans strange?
that is so cool. i'm from arizona and i've never been lucky enough to see a Goshawk were i've gone camping and i've searched for 6 YEARS NOW without any luck!
It's worth waiting until the end just to catch a glimpse of that hawk's eye. I like the protective stance the hawk takes--wings slightly extended and scooped low over the kill--in order to keep other animals from attempting to grab its food.
Lol everyone here is for the death of all squirrels
