Hey if you guys want to hear this in context in a metalcore band, go check out our page. We use the pedal and are extremely satisfied with how it sounds.
Hi dude, i'm a beginner and i have no idea about pedals. Can you have this great distortion with differents guitars, or it depends of the model? ...i don't have a great guitar (beringher met-alien) sorry for my bad english, please aswer i need a thrash sound
What a difficult question, you threw at me... I've notived that I'm not much of a pedal guy, I haven't really encountered distortion pedals that I would really like. They bring distortion to any signal that you feed it, so of course your guitar will have an effect on the tone. The MT-2 pretty much kills any signal with a ton of distrortion ... But at the end of the day, I think the biggest thing are the guitarist's skills.
@mpalin11 excuse again, but im still with the doubt. I know that the metal zone brings distortion to any signal, but in the same way?, because i want a lot of distortion, like in your video, but i don't have the same guitar, so my cuestion is can i get the same amount of distortion? hope u understand me. Thanks again
@witchingmetal100 Yes you can, This pedal has a lot of range and can make a lot of different sounds if your willing to play with it.buy this pedal get a Plug in adapter for it and its gonna sound awsome. Try to invest in a nicer guitar when you can, I would recommend a jackson. Or you could get a Jackson....
@witchingmetal100 go for it i tried this pedal out it kicked ass. and i was using a crate gx1200h head with a marshall 8412 cab which i wound up getting> I would recomend this peddle its very versatile and loud. I am probably going to get this pedal today for my birthday. Oh it sounds better than the metal core by the way in my opinion i tried them both out.ID say go for this peddle.
What you'd recommend better for a thrash sound? and I mean real thrash, like Kill 'em All Metallica or Agent Orange sound, I'm trying to decide between Metal Muff and MXR fullbore, I was sugested Metal Zone at a forum, but it doesn't sound thrash at all to me
@MehdiGlz If you want that old school thrash sound in a pedal just use an Ibanez Tube Screamer (blue box) or if you want rack gear grab a Rocktron Voodu Valve (my personal favorite), or a Rocktron Pro Grap, or an ADA MP-1. Can't go wrong with any of those. I lived the thrash era and still play it. If you want to be really vintage just crank up a pushed JCM800 and Thrash Till Death!!
@xMtysx02 You be the judge, I have provided the material .... Why are you asking, if I just played you some Death songs and even provided my own opinion in the video? :D
@mpalin11 well, first im an idiot, i commented before completely watch the video, and well, im think its gonna be a good pedal for me, thnxs dude! you really help! keep the metal faith alive
Also, for the setting that gives you ahead ache, I would recommend turning the bass down, I have that problem from both my amp and my sound system with bass heavy settings/ music.
j/k I used to love this pedal back in the day maybe 15 years ago. It depends on what you do with it. I ran it through two Crate amps and it sounded awesome. I did a few songs for an album with it and wish I tracked all the rhythm guitars with it. Use it sparingly to improve the sound, like an Overdrive pedal and it rocks.
Also the Boss MT-2 makes a great starting point for pedal modifiers from Keeley to R3FX b/c of the EQ range can be modified. It is an analog pedal instead of the newer Boss pedals, which are COSM based.
For a long time now I always thought that scooped tones sounded like garbage. No real depth to the sound. I like balanced or mid boosted tones the best. I guess that's why I liked Megadeth and Slayer's tones better than Metallica's, especially from AJFA to now. Mid scooping didn't even sound good as a bedroom tone to me.
hmm what an odd idea! I have never thought of that. My first thought is that it would not work very well in that sense (I do not know for fact but that's just my first thought). Of course it would colour the sound of a Big Muff but if you want to have better control of the EQ I recommend using an EQ pedal for that - or some other method.
You have to connect the mic to the POD (of course), open up Gearbox and there set up a tone where you choose "mic" as Input 1. Save the tone (I save it as "Mic recording" because I have to use it every time I record with a mic), and in Reaper the dry mic tone will be "Tone 1 dry". Remember to select ASIO as your audio system in Reaper and ASIO POD X3 Live as the ASIO driver. Send me a message if you can't get it to work, I'll try to help you out!
@MrThisIsMyNickName I personally hate the Digitech Death Metal pedal. I listen to many types of metal music exclusively and I play a lot of this stuff on the guitar as well....I'd have to say the MT-2 is one of the better ones...death metal pedal is too over the top ridiculous. The MT-2 also has mid range eq....most other pedals don't...they only have Low and high eq's. It's the most flexible as well.
@mpalin11 Wow, quit ean ASSHOLE response I must say. You have to be a dick about it? The guy was just asking a question, obviously you didnt really test out too many settings on it. Plus the riffs your playing to sample the pedal all blow. Learn to play some good metal then you can be a dick cheese with your responses. Shit work on your English first, then your guitar playing.
I have Boss' ME-70 multi-effects processor, and all of the distortion channels are less than pleasing. The only one I use is the Metalcore, because it's the least noisy and the most clear-sounding, but even then, I still haven't found a setting that didn't shriek and hiss even through my 300 dollar Bare Knuckle humbuckers when I wasn't playing. Not to mention that the cabinet settings are worthless. Everything else is great at least, but Line 6 is where the good crunch is at.
To be honest, i loved all of the sounds shown and i tried it and think I'm going to buy it, what sort of music do you play, for example bands, and have you tried this pedal with other amps; does it sound relatively the same on all of them?
@MyBulletTV you can definitely get heavier tones out of the metal zone IN MY OPINION, it depends on your preference though, they have moderately close amounts of gain but the metal core has a more pronounced midrange and is a bit grainier/chrunchier, in my opinion, and the metal zone has a more tight distortion and more of a scooped mids tone, it might have a little more extremem top end too, so for loose distortion and midrange go for metalcore, but for scooped mids & tight tone, go metal zone
@MyBulletTV as the name of the metal core suggests, its for more of a modern metal tone, if you like the insane mode on line 6's spiders, the metalcore is prob for you, Im sure this guy would bitch about it though.
hell yea death is the best death metal band i have the dimarzio x2n in my bridge position its what chuck used it really gives u there tone if thats what u want. nice review tho ! yea i own this pedal its a little fuzzy sounding i thing
@guitarshredder61 the x2n? for sure! in my opinion tho id go with the dimarzio d activator xs, there like the newer version of the x2n just less treble and heavier, the x2n is a little to razor blady(trebly) for some people

what kind of pedal would you recommend for a melodic-death metal tone? I love the tone of the Gothenburg scene like Dark Tranquillity, At The Gates, and old school In Flames, yet I find it difficult to get that sound.
thanks for the first good review I've seen on this pedal but, when you crank up the mids it's the most annoying thing for me :P sounds like an old radio
thanks for the first good review I've seen on this pedal but, when you crank up the mids it's the most annoying thing for me :P sounds like an old radio
Yes! A Death shirt! Chuck was one of my favorite guitar players.
I bought one of these to run into my backup amp because it didn't have enough sustain for solos. I only paid $150 for the amp, and $80 for the pedal.
If you boost the hi-mids on the MT-2, and cut the treble on your amp, then you can actually get a good thrash sound out of this pedal. But do it wrong, and it makes your guitar sound like tin foil.
I blew up my Death Metal pedal recently. I used it for guitars, synths, vocals and smashing drums. Was thinking about this, I currently have Boss turbo distortion, sustainer compressor, and super overdrive I use for different things. Should I get this?
@ultimateinfinite Should you get this, is a question I cannot answer for you, but I provided a demo and my opinions about it. I personally do not like the sound very much, so make your own decisions...
Hey dude! Great review I use one mt 2 too and it gives great sound,I don´t know why some people say that it have shitty sound,it is a great pedal for the price paid!
i really agree with you on a tone, i like mids a little above 50% distortion around 75% treble around 35ish% and bass i like to be around 40-50% i like a thick heavy sound, but i want the mids to stand out so my harmonics will stand out pretty good!!! and it sounds heavier with more mids than treble
@RockMan294 yes!!! thats the only reason im buying it, is to play those two bands, the guy at my music store said its best for thrashy stuff, but its good for anything from thrash to death/metalcore
@dylancr32 Hard to say, I've got little experience with the zoom g1 ... But that's a multieffect, righ? It depends on the context, where you would use it...
hey dude!!!great review....i have the same pedal with u (boss mt-2)....my amp is rolland cube 80 but the sound of the pedal sucks!!!:(:(:( i have it more than a year but i dont use it..! can u tell me your options if i can make it better??:) thnks a lot :)
@666pande Yea I know the combination of this + roland amp kinda sucks ... But on the positive side I really like the tones of roland amps alone! One of my favourite distortions are found in their models.
Yea, I don't know how to help there... other than don't use too much distortion (I think over 50% is too much) or bass (same).
@koukouroukou12345 It's difficult to predict how a certain amp would react to pedal, but well, since I don't even like the pedal very much, I don't think it would make a crappy amp sound better...
@kokipWnZ Pod X3 (Live) actually has a modelling for this particular pedal (I don't know why - I don't use either of them very much) but yeah, I guess you can get pretty much distortion with any Pod.
@MickD44Klit Is the pedal good for a Bullet For My Valentine sorta tone? It's just that i'm finding my amp (Spider 4, my own fault in that respect) overly muffled and very muddy.
@MickD44Klit Thanks for replying, but i spent a couple of hours researching it and it looks like you're right, digitech's hardwire pedals are much better suited to the tone i'm looking for, so thanks for that :)
@MickD44Klit alright thanks for the info man :D , am going to try this pedal at the store and am sure am gonna buy it because i want a children of bodom sound , i was going to buy the ml-2 metalcore , but ive heard its for playing nu metal and that stuff
Metal Zone ... pedal to make everything sound angry wasp hive ... actually it works quite nice if you have big amp ... for the fuzziness and saturation sound nice but when compared to for instance Engl Fireballs crispiness it is obvious MT-2 does not add up!

Come on headaches?? i always play loud with heavy distortion and dont feel a thing... and this is a great pedal
metalkez 2 weeks ago
I own one too. I guess what you can try is to keep the lows and high between 0900 - 1500.
As of the mid's, it can be good if its tuned to the low-mid kinda frequency and with the mid gain set at about 1300.
Maybe what this pedal lacks is just the defined kinda punch in its sound that can most probably only be achieved via a tube amp.

what kind of pedal would you recommend for a melodic-death metal tone? I love the tone of the Gothenburg scene like Dark Tranquillity, At The Gates, and old school In Flames, yet I find it difficult to get that sound.

thanks for the first good review I've seen on this pedal but, when you crank up the mids it's the most annoying thing for me :P sounds like an old radio

Dude! Respect for Death t-shirt!!!

I blew up my Death Metal pedal recently. I used it for guitars, synths, vocals and smashing drums. Was thinking about this, I currently have Boss turbo distortion, sustainer compressor, and super overdrive I use for different things. Should I get this?
ultimateinfinite 1 year ago
@ultimateinfinite Should you get this, is a question I cannot answer for you, but I provided a demo and my opinions about it. I personally do not like the sound very much, so make your own decisions...

hello, I have a question, which pedal would be good to go with the "Metal Zone" for solo guitar CHORUS ENSEMBLE?
RawVolkov 1 year ago
@RawVolkov
a chorus with a distortion pedal? Something doesn't add up ... Why would do that?
I don't have any other type of pedals [other than distortion] so I don't know. But I would, perhaps, use some delay pedal, like Digital Delay DD-3/7
mpalin11 1 year ago
@mpalin11 I understand! is something high cost of the DD-3 Digital Delay
I'm going to have to raise more money to buy it
xD

Thanks, I'm spanish but you help me a lot.
P.D.: Death lml Still Chuck Schuldiner.

If you REALLY want to annoy everyone with gain, get an old DOD Death Metal pedal...makes Dismember's guitar tone sound like a basket of kittens.

i really agree with you on a tone, i like mids a little above 50% distortion around 75% treble around 35ish% and bass i like to be around 40-50% i like a thick heavy sound, but i want the mids to stand out so my harmonics will stand out pretty good!!! and it sounds heavier with more mids than treble

is it good for avenged sevenfold and metallica stuff????
RockMan294 1 year ago
@RockMan294 yes!!! thats the only reason im buying it, is to play those two bands, the guy at my music store said its best for thrashy stuff, but its good for anything from thrash to death/metalcore

@DowntownTB13 kool thanxs man
RockMan294 1 year ago
Good job. But you need improve your vibratos on pinch harmonics.
mickmetallico 1 year ago
@mickmetallico aha, okay! Thanks for the tip!
mpalin11 1 year ago
@mpalin11 You are welcome. Check the vibrato techniques of Kris Dahl, Tom Hess, Dimebag Darrel or Zakk Wylde. Are good and wide vibratos.
Your vibrato need to be more smooth and accurate on tempo.

usas solo el metalzone o tambien el POD X3?
leasiMMetalCore 1 year ago
@leasiMMetalCore I don't speak spanish so I don't recommend talking to me in Spanish xD
But: I used the Pod X3 for the amp & speaker simulation and recording, and I had the Metal Zone in the FX loop to provide the distortion.

@dylancr32 Hard to say, I've got little experience with the zoom g1 ... But that's a multieffect, righ? It depends on the context, where you would use it...

xMETALLICAROCKERx 1 year ago
hey dude!!!great review....i have the same pedal with u (boss mt-2)....my amp is rolland cube 80 but the sound of the pedal sucks!!!:(:(:( i have it more than a year but i dont use it..! can u tell me your options if i can make it better??:) thnks a lot :)
666pande 1 year ago
@666pande Yea I know the combination of this + roland amp kinda sucks ... But on the positive side I really like the tones of roland amps alone! One of my favourite distortions are found in their models.
Yea, I don't know how to help there... other than don't use too much distortion (I think over 50% is too much) or bass (same).
Thanks for the comment!

I've been listening to Death all day today so it was pretty cool when I did a search for a review on this pedal and this one comes up first!

I have a crappy amp will this pedal make the sound better?
koukouroukou12345 1 year ago
@koukouroukou12345 It's difficult to predict how a certain amp would react to pedal, but well, since I don't even like the pedal very much, I don't think it would make a crappy amp sound better...
mpalin11 1 year ago
does the pod have the "heavy"distortion that this pedal has? coz i might buy a pocket pod or this pedal im not sure
kokipWnZ 1 year ago
@kokipWnZ Pod X3 (Live) actually has a modelling for this particular pedal (I don't know why - I don't use either of them very much) but yeah, I guess you can get pretty much distortion with any Pod.

@zaktan415 What an odd question :P I'm from Finland, as it says in my profile...
mpalin11 1 year ago
@mpalin11 yay finland makes the most awesome metal.
zaktan415 1 year ago
I like my MT-2
The problem is to find the settings because the knobs are very sensitives.
I don't put the gain more than an half and don't put a lot of high to have a good sound.
MickD44Klit 1 year ago
@MickD44Klit Is the pedal good for a Bullet For My Valentine sorta tone? It's just that i'm finding my amp (Spider 4, my own fault in that respect) overly muffled and very muddy.
Joeseffel 1 year ago
@Joeseffel
I think the metal zone will sound old metal/ thrash metal, and that is not the BFMV style.
You should try the pedal before buy it.
look at digitech, i've heard that they have good pedals for modern metal.
if you want a boss pedal, try the metal core ML2 but i'm not sure.
MickD44Klit 1 year ago
@MickD44Klit Thanks for replying, but i spent a couple of hours researching it and it looks like you're right, digitech's hardwire pedals are much better suited to the tone i'm looking for, so thanks for that :)
Joeseffel 1 year ago
@MickD44Klit is the pedal good for stuff like : children of bodom , death and opeth ?
punkdude1994 1 year ago
@punkdude1994
for children of bodom, it could sound good, i've found a setting to play downfall a long time ago.
for death and opeth, i don't know.
MickD44Klit 1 year ago
@MickD44Klit alright thanks for the info man :D , am going to try this pedal at the store and am sure am gonna buy it because i want a children of bodom sound , i was going to buy the ml-2 metalcore , but ive heard its for playing nu metal and that stuff

Metal Zone ... pedal to make everything sound angry wasp hive ... actually it works quite nice if you have big amp ... for the fuzziness and saturation sound nice but when compared to for instance Engl Fireballs crispiness it is obvious MT-2 does not add up!
