i dont understand why everyone is hyping the 5.3.

the 4.8 is like 20 horse less, better on fuel, and about 5 grand less at the lot.

i bought my brand new 11, GMC 4.8, and it will walk an 09 and older 5.3.

If you could get a 4.8 with the new 6 speed, I dont know why anyone would get a 5.3.

@SSFTC lol im pretty sure you only have 2 maybe 3 leaf springs. You would probably crack those. Do they even make 5th wheel hitches for your truck? I really doubt you could get it going from a dead stop eather. your only rated at 285 lbs tq. lol thats a joke. ill be generous and say you could have 300. My truck has 600 lbs and in some situations struggles with 12k. Your truck would never be able to tow what you think it will. Typical chevy owner. Talked up truck that cant back itself up.

@powerstroke279 i have 3 leafs, there is kits where it can huld 6000lbs in the box, and yes you can buy 5th wheel hitches for them, ive seen 1/2 ton 4.8l's and 5.3l's towing motorhomes typically weighing in around 8000lbs-15000lbs, i know how much power your truck has and it doesnt perform as well as it should, just going by the numbers ford gives you. My truck has 300tq and 305hp, i can gurantee with a couple bolt on parts and a programmer i could tow 12,000lbs

@powerstroke279 ford also took the chance in makeing their new diesels twin turbo 6.7l's, sounds good doesnt it?? except the 6.6 duramax out tows it everyyear every load. now when i heard about that i didnt really believe that a single turbo 6.6 would do that to a 6.7 twin turbo, then i learned that its a big turbo with a little one behind it to give it extra boost...ok um why???? that creates alot of heat for 2-4psi of boost?????? what a waste of time and money..

@SSFTC lol find me a video of a little half ton pulling 12k and up. You must not tow much. You have way too high of expectations for you little truck. you obviously dont understand how a turbo works. (they are not twin turbos) They went with the sequential (not twin) for faster spooling. Not for more boost. The small turbo lights with less exhaust flow until the the larger turbo takes over for the higher boost levels.

@powerstroke279 my buddy had a 6.0l with actuall twin turbos and he is jelous of my other friend with his 6.6l duramax..why you say?? because his 6.0l ford simply can not keep up. buddys 6.6l is pushing around 1100-1350 tq and 600-800 hp (obviously with a programmer and sumthing else he wouldnt tell me) his truck can tow 20-35k lbs, but yours struggles with 12klbs...so anyways look man im not sayin your particular truck is garbage im just saying get off my back about my 4.8l...its a fuckin gas!!

@SSFTC okay i wont say thats over an 18 wheelers load. (the trucks towing homes go about 10mph, im talking about real towing at real speeds) I know they can do more than that. But unless your buddy has a 5500 (not even sure if they use the duramax in that) I really doubt he is towing 25k pounds. And if he does it would almost have to be all interstate. and you say 600 to 800? Do you know how big of a difference 200 hp is? Once your past 600 even 10 hp is alot.

@powerstroke279 no your wrong again, i personally saw a lepoard 2 A6 main battle tank get loaded onto a tractor trailer and get towed to an airport 220 kms away to goto afghanistan. the tank weighs 57.6 tons, thats 115,199.99 lbs...shall i keep going? he owns a 3/4ton gmc..yes i know how much the differance, is its 200hp! and yes he can tow that much, a gmc 5500 can have 5.6 tons in the box and then can tow up to 40k lbs on a trailer. and yes its a duramax unless custom ordered with a cat diesel

@SSFTC that tank was getting towed at 70 mph? I kinda doubt that. im sorry but there is no way in hell that a srw truck is towing 25k pounds. What is the tung weight of the trailer? It would have to be atleast 5-7k pounds. Most travel trailers are around 2k.

@jahcord thats because you didnt gear yours. or put the wrong gears in it. my 5.3 with 37's and 4.88 gears hauls ass. gears make a world of difference

@08whitesierra4x4 yeah gears will take care of that as well as get you 8-10mpg. The 5.3 barely hauls ass with stock tires and 3.73 gears, I am sure you got some decent low end. But after owning a few the only thing I see fit for the 5.3 is a level kit and 33's.

@jahcord I definitely agree! However I work at a GM dealership and we have a tough enough time putting 33s on a truck with a 4 inch lift. So im not too sure about the leveling kit idea because i havent seen guys go much bigger than stock with a leveling kit on a new body style GM truck.
