Great! Congratulations! I love this piece also. I played it at a german keyboard contest on synthesizers in a version inspired by emerson but in 9/8 as brubeck composed it. You can see it on my channel. Take a look!
Good approach kid... don't listen to people telling you not to be aggressive and play loudly. That was one of Brubeck's trademarks. You'll keep maturing musically as long as you listen to the greats and not people like me and all the other bozos on youtube! Great job! Work your craft!
I like how they just ignore the constraints of cool jazz at the end cause then the main tune starts to sound like the bassoon solo from the the firebird it was based on.
I had the honor of meeting Dave Brubeck last year and heard his sons play Blue Rondo. You did a great job. Congrats. You have a great future in front of you!
Who cares what he's wearing or how fast he runs off the stage, or even how loudly he plays. He's a kid, and a kid exhibiting that amount of control on the piano is pretty amazing. I give it an A+.
Bit strange, nice solid piano playing too hectic and hard though then you go into a very stiff improvisation, not your thing dude.
Listen again(probably for the hundredth time) to the original, he just flows along laid back and just slips notes in with subtlety and flair. Make yourself some thinking time. Dave plays far less than you when he takes the improvs. Less is more as they say.
I'm going to have to side with the people who say you play way too heavy and rush (nervous?). Thanks for uploading though! Don't wear jeans, and don't run off stage. But hey, you're young still. Good luck!
This screams for an aggresive approach and you pulled it off! What is jazz if not a different interpretation of an older standard? Forget criticism for not duplicating what's already on vinyl (or polycarbonate). Play it as you feel it and I'd say you did that well. Great job!
you are good pianist but youre playing too loudly. i reckon if youve got an orchestra accompanying you it should have a more interesting arrangment of it - dont just stick to the original. the original was played by 4 instruments, youve got about 20 or more so you should be more adventurous.
I've always loved this song. The motif reminds me so much of String of Pearls from the big band era. Your aggressive attack sounds fine to me. You dig this song--that's obvious--and you kick the hell out of it. Good work--play it how you feel it.
there are parts where the banging was ok, but like, during the solor, whent he rhythm lick comes in, I would have thought a more mellow feel would be better.
I disagree with the other commenters! I'm a very hard player as well, and this song NEEDS the banging! It sounds great like that, I play it just as powerfully.
Careful on keeping time during the solo though! Sounds good.
That was good playing man but lighten up on the keys! You're slamming the keys like this was the theme song to Indiana Jones instead of a jazz song. If you listen to Brubeck's original, the piano playing is very quick and light. No need to mash the piano keys...

Brilliant job. One important thing: get some good looking clothes. If you wear jeans, it makes you look like you're not taking yourself seriously.
Thanks for sharing your talents with us!

oke, I thought I was starting to get pretty good at piano (jazz), but you're a lot better...
I've got 2 videos on Google Video, called 'No Name - Summertime' and 'No Name - The Preacher', maybe you'll like it :D
but just continue playing, and tell me when you'll play in Holland, I want to see you live :D

Major Props!
I wish I was playing drums for you, not because I'm better than that guy, but just because it would have been so much fun!!!

Thank you! I love unusual time signatures! (Lots of prog rock and jazz fusion of the 70's!)

everything was exceptional except for the improv at the jazz section. you can tell that this person is a classical, not a jazz pianist.

hey man this song doesnt need you to slam the piano for it. why'd you play so hard? that's not how it goes for this song.
