I'm a fan of Kate's music but I find it odd that so many people from around the world say they like it too and like her, as she's actually a Wiccan and all her songs and song titles are depicting Wiccan rituals, in order.
Normally, I would say that the choir parts are a distraction from the rest of the song, but Bush is able to make it all work so beautifully. This is one of her best without a doubt.

@katebushisagenius "The Sensual World " is a very good album in itself. But the whole album is just disapointing if you compare with her fantastic previous work. The title track, the Trio Bulgarka songs and "The Fog" (the half album ) are great. The others songs that are influenced by the dark athmosphere of "Experiment IV" ( a great song ) are disapointing and not from a great musical inspiration.("This Woman's Work" has a beautiful melody but conventional," Reaching out " is really bad )
A wonderful beautiful song. All the songs of the " Hounds of Love " album (a masterpiece) shows the stunning talents of Kate Bush as composer. But unhappily, that album was her last great work. "The Sensual World " is disappointing and " the Red Shoes " and "Aerial " are bad (even they have both some - few - good songs). And her last album " Director's Cut " is catastrophique : a real big mistake. So Kate bush, as great composer, is dead. And i am so sad.
Kate should have been as popular as the Beatles or the Stones. Even 'some' English (some that I had met years ago) shunned her & wanted me to play Lisa Stansfield...? I like Lisa but com' on?! There is absolutely no comparison!?! Kate was and is still way ahead of 'pop' music. Her genius was discovered by Dave Gilmore, I believe... So if HE saw her gift, those who didn't/couldn't appreciate her lack sophistication - that simple. Hello Earth is incredibly haunting & 1 of my favorites!
I appreciate your admiration for Kate but why do you say she should be as popular as the Beatles or Stones? She cannot be compared to them because they are an entirely different style from her and they helped to shape much of the future of music in the world, long before Kate even started writing. She was inspired by the Beatles in her early development long before she became famous and it's due to the likes of them we have so many good artists to enjoy now.

Also in Italy we have "our" Kate, is Alice, has collaborated with ex-Japan, Steve Jansen, Phil Manzanera, No man, Peter Hammil look for it on You tube! He had written a song to sing a duet with Kate, in 1990
Just the one question... can't you put the WHOLE of "Seventh Wave" together in one video? For me this is one of those "epics" that define rock. Up there alongside Floyd's "Echoes", Yes' "Awaken", Genesis' "Supper's Ready", Van der Graaf Generator's "A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers". And now all we are left with is Lady Gaga and Simon F****** Cowell. Have computers reduced our attention spans to those of goldfish?? Bring back Prog Rock, I say!!!
@1480mathias I am so with you! It's a great composition great acting, actors who match with eachother and the roles they play, background sounds, facial expression and a wonderful quiet atmosphere. So much better than modern vampire movies. Klaus Kinski was made to play such roles. He was a truly great actor.
Reminds me of being a teenager, playing d&d with the kids down the road. Living in the middle of nowhere, no tv, just a lot of weak pot. The quiet of a heavy snowfall...
I loved this song the first time heard it back in the 80's....hearing it again in 2011 it is just as amazing and beautiful as the first time I heard it. Kate Bush, what a talent - the lyrics, the music, the creativity - all that is missing from much of today's artists.
@n2ativone I've recently started listening to Kate again after some years of not doing. It has to be said, Hounds of Love has just got better with time. I think it may be one of the finest albums ever recorded.

EMI has released a few collections of her videos, including The Single File, Hair of the Hound, The Whole Story, and The Sensual World, as well as an abridged concert video of her 1979 tour Live at Hammersmith Odeon.
On 2 December 2008, the DVD collection of the fourth season of Saturday Night Live including her performances was released. A three DVD set of The Secret Policeman's Balls benefit concerts that includes Bush's performance was released on 27 January 2009.
In late 2006, a DVD documentary titled Kate Bush Under Review was released by Sexy Intellectual, which included archival interviews with Bush, along with interviews with a selection of music historians and journalists (including Phil Sutcliffe, Nigel Williamson, and Morris Pert). The DVD also includes clips from several of Bush's music videos.
Several collections of Bush's music videos have been released on VHS, most notably The Single File, which contained videos predating the Hounds of Love album; Hair of the Hound, containing videos concerning that album; and The Whole Story, a career video overview released in conjunction with the 1986 compilation album of the same title.

@TheQuietEye I hear you, Quiet Eye, but here's the way I look at it: I don't like anything I hear on the radio or the TV or in movies these days. So I listen to things I DO like, such as this. It does take a bit more effort to actively avoid the offensive junk that's out there, but it is so worth it. So hang out with us here and enjoy Kate! :)
@TheQuietEye I was a 14 y/o metal head long hair punk who became an instant KB junkie around 82. I spent the next several years feeling like a rejected orphan of hers. No one I knew listened to her. She never toured the states (that I was aware of at the time). Like so many things in life, around the 90s, I stopped. Sad. Well, the future is here. I was amazed to find her so prevalent again. Let them have their mainstream. We have this.
no punishment needed friend, it's not your fault you never had much knowledge of her before, she's been around for many years and has good reason to keep herself out of the limelight and I admire her choices for that, integrity being one of them. You now know how brilliant she is and that is priceless, keep listening and enjoying :) BTW is X Factor really all that bad? lol, have to admit the prelims are a blast :)
@marmit1972 I just picked X Factor at random - I don't watch much live television, actually. My son is half of 'Alpines', recently signed to Polydor - he has been working on a career in music for the last ten years, and the idea that someone can suddenly just walk into the limelight is laughable. What I blame myself for is not supporting or following great artists like Kate ..... obviously we have lives to lead, but when they can give us so much .... Heads up! Watch: "Florence/What the water"
This song is so haunting. I know it's weird, but I usually listen to it when I go to bed, and by the time Kate whispers, "go to sleep, little Earth", I usually drift off into a dreamless sleep.
this song opens up something inside so profoundly i cannot listen to it more then on special occasion when my soul needs a cleansing...i cry rivers every time...
@clivestanley66 well i found 'hounds of love' in my parent's room 2 days ago... and i loved this song and the ninth wave... is so... emotional... i'm sixteen xD
@Symphonyofflowers in America you can purchase The Whole Story DVD collection, as well as The Sensual World DVD. The Sensual World DVD only has about 4 or 5 of the songs. You can still get them on Bestbuy.com I believe. I am probably your biggest fan, absolutly adore your KB uploads
@Claire8819 There's one that I know of, "And So Is Love" which has a bunch of Kate's videos and performances all cobbled together - including one of favourites "Violin". She did make a bunch of VHS collections, most of which are also available on Laserdisc, but they haven't been converted to DVD as of yet.
It's such a beautiful sentiment - looking down at the earth from above. Somewhere in my cellar I've got a tape recording of Kate talking to Radio 1 about the making of the album. She did use the choral pieces from Nosferatu, but wrote "words" that fit the song. She described the song without the choral pieces as having big gaping holes that she had no idea how to fill. It's just so beautiful - a lullaby to the earth, as she put it. Go to sleep, little Earth...
to Victor4506....I remember that Miami Vice episode and I believe it was Edward James Olmos (also acting in it) that directed. Very effective use of our Kate!!
As a small girl, I'd get so freaked out by the choir. LOL They used to scare the holy shit out of me. In fact, I was more afraid of this choir's sound than I was of Freddy Kruger, Jason, Michael Meyer, or the monsters from Hellraiser! I guess that's the power of music.
the male choir on this track is the same one used by werner hertzog on his nosferatu movie ( i think!) so creepy and sad. forget their name but love all the film references in her work. shes a super smart cookie and made much better music than alot of the gash rubbish her male conemporaries released at the time to much more aclaim. it s not fair i tell ya!
@joedgillis Yes, the choral section was inspired by "Nosferatu" but it wasn't sampled from the film. It was recorded by The Michael Hickox Singers especially for this song. And the song they are singing is based on the traditional Georgian folk song "Tsintskaro".
@Symphonyofflowers thanks for that info. i guessed the recording was made for this album alright . must checkout the Michael Hickox singers really beautiful. love that connection. there is a powell pressburger from the late forties called 'gone to earth 'to me it is total kate bush.Another big movie influence ( im guessing) worth checking out.
@Symphonyofflowers sorry meant to say a film by powell and pressburger. its really beautiful understated and kinda odd in the best way.. a bit like kate bush
Such beautiful images. I love the original artwork of Kate - can't read the signature, unfortuately. Does anyone know who it is by? It's fantastic. xxx
I'm glad she never realized the project of making a film for The Ninth Wave. The music says everything, and in her other songs where the music opens new vistas in the mind (Sat in Your Lap, the Dreaming) the accompanying video seems an unwelcome jolt back to reality. I prefer to be left with the music and my own dreams.
This is THE best track on the Album... "Peek-a boo, little earth........... it's something bright travelling fast............ just look at it go...." so powerful yet haunting... Kate, you are a legend.... Where are you now???
I don't know why I hadn't come this one yet since I love it so much. Great visuals Symphony once again.

You now know how brilliant she is and that is priceless, keep listening and enjoying :) BTW is X Factor really all that bad? lol, have to admit the prelims are a blast :)
marmit1972 4 months ago

Heya - I was just wondering if there's a dvd compilation of Kate Bush's music videos anywhere? It's been driving me nuts!
Claire8819 1 year ago 5
@Claire8819 No, unfortunately there are no official Kate Bush DVDs. There are bootleg DVDs, but no official ones.
Symphonyofflowers 1 year ago
@Symphonyofflowers I have a compilation of Kate Bush but it is on video sadly, not DVD.!
jeanwhite1000 10 months ago
@Symphonyofflowers in America you can purchase The Whole Story DVD collection, as well as The Sensual World DVD. The Sensual World DVD only has about 4 or 5 of the songs. You can still get them on Bestbuy.com I believe. I am probably your biggest fan, absolutly adore your KB uploads
TheDeebri55 9 months ago
@Symphonyofflowers
There was an official VideoCD release though, which is only MPEG1 quality.

@Claire8819 If you still have a VHS machine there are videos available on Amazon
Kate Bush - The Whole Story [VHS] [1986]
Kate Bush - The Single File [VHS] [1983]
or try E-Bay I have both from when they were first released and they are amazing

KatesPinkZeppelin 9 months ago

I guess that's the power of music.

elfje62 1 year ago
the male choir on this track is the same one used by werner hertzog on his nosferatu movie ( i think!) so creepy and sad. forget their name but love all the film references in her work. shes a super smart cookie and made much better music than alot of the gash rubbish her male conemporaries released at the time to much more aclaim. it s not fair i tell ya!
joedgillis 1 year ago
@joedgillis Yes, the choral section was inspired by "Nosferatu" but it wasn't sampled from the film. It was recorded by The Michael Hickox Singers especially for this song. And the song they are singing is based on the traditional Georgian folk song "Tsintskaro".
Symphonyofflowers 1 year ago 3
@Symphonyofflowers thanks for that info. i guessed the recording was made for this album alright . must checkout the Michael Hickox singers really beautiful. love that connection. there is a powell pressburger from the late forties called 'gone to earth 'to me it is total kate bush.Another big movie influence ( im guessing) worth checking out.

@Symphonyofflowers sorry meant to say a film by powell and pressburger. its really beautiful understated and kinda odd in the best way.. a bit like kate bush

But these pictures a lovely, thank you.
