Its always funny to find yourself surrounded by all these things that at one point we thought they were essential in our lifes. Last week I run into the new book: “Discover the Gift”. It talks about how you need to be true to yourself. I loved it! I found it brilliant Let me know what you think about it!! facebook. com/discoverthegift
Self-improvement should include a few days where you're made at world, miserable, and just plain crabby. And to have someone to say it to -- someone who won't take your crabbiness as a personal offence -- is even better. Because when you're dealing with disease, ageing parents, money issues (uh... I don't have a boat... either), it's tough to be all perky and positive.
you have really inspired me today to be better and do better. you seem like a really great person. i don't see many people like you around anymore. thanks for the video, i will add to my collection! :)
i've noticed with myself, and i don't understand this phenomenon, that at times i feel sooo super negative about things and when i watch videos like this that inspire me to want to be better and adopt a better attitude, it feels as if it's such a HUGE mountain to climb. especially when i work in a very negative environment and have to deal with ignorance all day long. how does one stay positive when surrounded with negative energy so much? i just get upset thinking about going to work sometimes
Caroline thank you! This was a very good and useful video. I share the same view about many things you mentioned. Wanting to know more about anything and staying interested is indeed very important for self-improvement.
keep up the great work. I am sure that a lot of people appreciate your videos.
There's a small and excellent online depression support group called Depression Hangout that is always open to anyone who is struggling with mental health problems (not just depression). It's run in its own chaotic way by its members who meet regularly in the chat room and it's a great place to seek and provide help and support, make new friends and even just have a laugh. (We all need that too!) To join just go to depressionhangout-dot-blogspot-dot-com.
Caroline, good points... I've gone through many of the experiences, now I have my own business as a private guidance counselor - tutor with academics, personal - social, character edu, career and college preparation and for the ACT and SAT.
Yes, I love discovering or learning something new everyday!

Hi Caroline ... Great Job. Congratulations for this excelent video. I'm from Brazil and your ideas make my day better. Keep encouraging people be happier.
Thank you for sharing your perspective on what encourages a genuine connection with joy and happiness in life. thanks lady, what you were saying makes sense ..... its too bad that I have developed a hatered towards "learning" after one semester of university ........ I dropped out in the second semester and never went to university again. Instead, I went to one of those crappy "tech schools" and wasted $15,000 on a useless one-year diploma that never got me any decent work. Sorry for talking about my problems, they have nothing to do with this nice lady's video.
This is the conclusion I have after watching your video...I am glad to watch & come in touch with people like you who motivate others individuals who are mislead in life...Well keep up the good work dear..I would feel good if we ever come in contact in future....A Well-Wisher...!
Hi, thanks for posting this video. I sorta know what you mean. It reminds me of the stories where you hear someone having just won the lottery, expecting to live it up for the rest of their life, and it actually destroys them, because they feel like their purpose, or their reason for being which may have been their job (which they most probably quit) is gone. I think its not so much the struggle of working to get what we want insomuch as it is the challenges we need to keep ourselves enthused.
That's wonderful! I'm sure that when those children in Africa go on the internet and watch this, they'll be thrilled to know that you joined the peace corps and helped them out simply to quell your own boredom. Ah, affluence.
BTW, not all learning makes you happier. Try researching the history of poverty in countries like Brazil, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, New Guinea, China, India, Bangledesh...etc. You will see it everywhere.
So, how about preaching global improvement instead, eh?
i think it more about how you approuch the world. if you try to approach the world in a way so you can discover things you havent discovered before(things you like and things you dont like), instead of living through your expectations, will make you a happier person, the world around you will become more detailed. Its like when you discover how much things around you are there to be discovered, youre actually able to see a whole new world.
You lost me at about 5 minutes. There's only so much you can listen to someone talking about themselves, especially when they repeat themselves so much.
Hi, Caroline! You are a very interesting and sweet person....I agree with you and just do the same you do...I love learning, and I am a happy person...you are right;;;congratulations!
how old is she?? she's a mother.. divorced.. professor.. she just look like a early 20s to me, full of energy, fresh! not dragged down at all~ 10mins of plain talking, not boring at all, but just so enlightening~~ wow =D
i think one important point is, to find your definition of happiness. you can think of many ways to be happy, but think of what is your personal way, which is rational not lyric? i want to be happy to be happy... you know.
i think this can be summed up with one word ... "self improvement".
It can be really helpful to allot of people but i dont think it is the secret of happiness.I think that everyone has to do a different thing to be happy. It has to do with what they have been through in their life. Like the video says "my grandmother did this and i like doing that too".
Some people had cruel lives and can be satisfied with anything small others had anything they wanted and are very hard to be satisfied.
Very true, my girlfriend often talks about feelings of depression and says she hates how she never got interested in anything, from the arts to sports and anything inbetween... The media and television shows really have hurt our childrens creativity and need for learning.
That was a cool video. Interesting that it is labeled "secret to happiness". Nothing you said was a secret or new to me, but the happiness is a result of being able to constantly be repeating all of the positive energy you have that is probably a result of you focusing on keeping a "positive" attitude. Lifes challenges make it hard to keep a positive attitude more times than not.
Like the way you, brought into focus, how!when you learn new things, those things grab your attention, when seen, and start an awareness,of those things, coupled by,how those things fit into the bigger picture, and give you an awareness, that has always been in front of you, that now is as plain as could be!Starting like a domino affect.
I love your video, You articulate what I have come to realize, if I don't take a positive step to improve or fulfill my life than I become mundane, stuck in a rut. Every month I find something substantial to do, mostly travel, and creativity.
I have learned that TV is a waist of time, full of sensationalism and drama. Type on YouTube "Network" The subject is on main stream media. Waist no more time with TV.
Maybe you (the girl on the video) should consider to become buddhist since you are unhappy with ordinary stuff like buying things, etc
I think junk TV programs are the ones that are bad for the mind but the TV itself is just a device-tool. I'd just watch documentaries, "History" channel or the news and not be a zombie.
I think many people is aware of happiness that you mention but they took other decisions and have no time due to their jobs, kids and while you read, they do the loundry.
A lot of the things you said are true I've been down lately, I recently moved away from my hometown and settling down wasn't easy. I been trying to find things to spice up my life again, great tips!
You made an interesting reference to the effects of TV on kids psyche's. Do you have a specific source for this? I would like to learn more about this.
thank you very much for this video. I went through an extremely difficult period in my life. It was joining a painting class and a few yoga classes and reading that made me snap out of my sad spell. It was the best thing I have ever done for myself, and I will continue to grow and learn for as long as I live. I bet you would be a wonderful friend.
Check out the groovy new self help book Disco Hypnotic. You can google the title or go to DiscoHypnotic(dot)com to learn how to improve your life through Mind Trips.
Yes!! TV as an intertainment media is often too passive of a format, I argue it with my significant other, but for me, the internet is for me, interactive, and even video games are the same. Live entertainment also is interactive for me, and would always make a choice of a small venue with eye contact with the band, large stadiums are too much like TV; exercise and just walking around are also entertaining.
What I think you mean is that it took you a lifetime to realise what a mess you had made of your general moral outlook. Is this supposed to represent some kind of grand insight? Why don't you just say sorry for being such a sheep for so long?
Thanks for sharing this with us. Materialism is not very fulfilling, it amazes me sometimes how few people realize this. I know people who put themselves through heck, over material posessions. Swimming pools are a good example. People often buy them as a status symbol not realizing the amount of work involved in the upkeep. The pools sit empty and turn green from algae, because noone in the family swims.
If she wants something challenging to learn about, I suggest checking out the podcasts on Freedomainradio (google is your friend) . They are very much in line with your mindset, but take the principles to another level.
you're cute. fullstop.

Patriol666 3 years ago
i think this can be summed up with one word ...

Boredom is produced when you lose the ability to create your own enviornment and future.
Boredom also leads to stress, anger and depression.

Regards.

thank you very much for this video. I went through an extremely difficult period in my life. It was joining a painting class and a few yoga classes and reading that made me snap out of my sad spell. It was the best thing I have ever done for myself, and I will continue to grow and learn for as long as I live. I bet you would be a wonderful friend.

Caroline is wonderful, warm and wise.
If she wants something challenging to learn about, I suggest checking out the podcasts on Freedomainradio (google is your friend) . They are very much in line with your mindset, but take the principles to another level.
