I hope all the people who wrote comments saying how this plastic stadium was going to be so great now realize, according to media reports:
The Dunedin City Council is millions of dollars in the red and cannot afford to pay its bills.
This will mean massive rates rises, user pays and increased costs on council services, and the sell off of public assets, as the stadium continues to drain money like the large parasite it is.
man is life really dead down there, why not show the world we can do it, u guys r showing the rest of the world wat a joke nz is, that we cant get it together, win or lose after the world cup at least dunedin has a state of the art stadium 2 be proud of
we can't afford it fpr fuck sake, why don't we build a space centre where we can launch shuttles into orbit instead that would be great to, but we can't afford it !!... Dunedin is a small city... Aucklanders are getting upset because their new motorway is going to cost 80 million , this in a city with traffic problems, money well spent, Dunedins new stadium is costing 300 million and we're tiny compared to auckland!!
Frankly, I like new stadiums, like I like new shiny pennies. If the owner of the team wants a new stadium for his team, and the old one is rusting apart or too small to support a team in today's world, SO BE IT. I like the new amendities, bigger and more restrooms, better food concessions and concourses.
-SithLoard- flee the shit before it hits the fan! Na, seriously, if the town's gonna keep on digging it's own tacky grave, then that's just gonna be the case. Nobody's bound to a place if it's going to hell.
Yup, thats the plan, Stan, leavin the Duntanic now. If people can actually think thats the way forward, and will actually make the city vibrant and attractive well, lost cause. (the empitome of delusional!, vibrant? Glass and steel, I can see the railway station etc being ignored for this fugly crystal palace, *phaaarrrp!*) Let em hit the iceberg. The truth will be hard, it will be cold. I hope the sea does rise, it might make an attraction, the underwater stadium of Farry-lantis.
Good onya for your comments. As if a 200mill plus stadium will do much apart from rip ppl off, it's just a few rugby heads things that it's DNs be all and end all. They are delusional to think it'll see much other use eg Phil Collins etc will be coming because of it. Theres a million better ways to make this city vrbrant, but we are full of tunnel visioned twats who in sheep mentality follow what other much bigger cites have done, rather than come up with something orignal.
That's a really intelligent comment. Are you planning to spend the rest of your life dealing with anyone you disagree with using this method? Do you have a point, or are you just going to show everyone how **big and mean** you are by using "nasty" words?
By the way, it's "pretentious" and when you tell someone to f**k "of" it's spelled "off"
I was at the protest against the stadium.I dont give a shit about the stadium. When it gets built I am going to get the hell out of Dunedin so I dont have to put with lying back stabing corprate rich asshole for the likes of The mayor Peter Chin which I can not stand and the rest of the Dunedin city council or the rich old boys club.I say keep Carisbrook were it is.Not some bloody stadium with a roof on it.I feel ashamed to be a citzen of Dunedin.
A heritage city, go foward, with a giant, overpriced biscuit tin, that will be a shrine to farry chin etc, yeh right. A generic glass and steel p.o.s make a place vibrant?
If you love rancid plate glass and steel, then sod off to Akl, Gold coast LA etc.
What a joke to think this is the way ahead in a heritage city, just for a few games of 40 egotistical twats kicking a ball about and ppl going on like our lives depended on it. Cable cars and heritage is a proper option to bring vibrancy.
Because not only is it not needed but it won't pay for itself.. it will cost more money to maintain than it earns... Why couldn't we spend the money putting a few tramp car up stuart street from the railway station and along the main street a few blocks...Thats the way forward!.. and how about a steam engine from port to the railway station too? both cheaper, would add to the cities character abd make money, and would actually be usefullpublictransport
The new stadium is going ahead WITH out a increase in rates!. You old people (syd Adie) should be banned from the new stadium. HAHA you lost, stay at home and winge about everything. what a way to live your life.
The profits will be sucked up by a few. Sure there will be some jobs. But what it is about is everyone subsidizing the profits and risk for business owners. Around the world it has been shown that building these stadiums cost communities more than they bring in money.
However you may disagree with me. It doesn't make you a moron or loser. It doesn't make me a moron or loser. It just means we have a different viewpoint which is what democracy is all about.
It sounds like you are assuming the stadium will "bring money" into Dunedin as if by magic. But actually it will be "taking money" from you and me -- the people who live here. Think about how long it takes to pay off a mortgage. Then think about how long it will take to pay off a $300 million plus mortgage. With interest.
Quoted by alliancenewzealand -"What about roads, water, health care and education, and affordable electricity?" Um hello idiot the stadium will bring money into the local economy to pay for these things, also creating jobs and putting Dunedin on the map as the only city in the country with a complete, roofed stadium.
I just think u are scared of change for the better because you are satisfied with what you already have - self centred attitude. I also think you should get your facts right before you blab your mouth off.
lol I did not call anybody a moron. Losers.. yes, also I have purposely spelt my words wrong becoz its easier to write. =] Surely u are smart enough to understand what I'm saying?? Its idiots like u stopping NZ from progressing into the future with first class facilities. I luv this quote of yours - "What about roads, water, health care and education, and affordable electricity?" lol u don't need two 'ands' in that last part.
alliancenewzealand IS A DICKHEAD WHO SHOULD GO HANG HIMSELF =] keep this protest shit up and il hunt u down a drop u fagget i know who u r and wat u look like so run and hide bitch! Notice how only 500 people out of 100,000 + people turned up to your protest lol ur a loser along with the other 500 70year old protesters. No one cares about u poor people with no initiative.
There are more important things than decent matches. $300 million dollars of compulsory funding for a decent match is simply not worth it.
What about roads, water, health care and education, and affordable electricity? The money that is "coming into" the city will be money "coming into" the pockets of the business owners. The project will be paid for by the ratepayers. Low income people like pensioners and workers will have to pay large increases in rates and rent over decades.
Yeah thats right you morons, Dunedin needs this staduim otherwise we aint going to get any decent matches any more which means LESS money comming into the city from these events geez, and Syd Adie you are a dick and hope you die.
No matches, oh yes, my god, no rugby, the primevil game that is the complete uphold of this country. It people think this is priority no.1, they need their head read. And of course, oh the depression if we lose, (over a stupid game!) so the town gets trashed. Enhancing visitor attractions just might bring a bit more money in, just a bit. Like millions, costing musch less to build and work 365 days a year, unlike Farry's Folly. it's been bulldoezed through dicatorship still exists!

Do you want Dunedin to go forward... "NO!"
Do you want a vibrant and atttractive city that people want to live in... "NO!"
Should we have to pay any money for anything... "NO!"
Why does Syd Adie care about the Dunedin's future- silly old git should leave OUR future alone.
Anyway- anti-stadium, anti-progress doomsdayers- it is now official- the stadium WILL BE BUILT! Thank god these types were ignored by the majority.
Oh dry up Syd Adie. Have you ever noticedx
