  • This shot on super 8?

  • one of my first songs i learnt to play

  • Yup, a whole lot of heroin.

  • I had never heard of these guys before 5 months ago. I was reading about a Seattle drummer named Chet McKnight. The website said his musical influences were Red Krayola, Joy Division, older Bauhaus, Birthday Party, and Throbbing Gristle.

I decided to listen to each of the bands, and the Birthday Party remains the one I come back to most often. I feel like I've been waiting for this kinda music to come along my whole life. It's so fucking awesome!

  • By the way, this very video was my first 'taste' of Birthday Party, so I should thank FadeDignity for uploading this and introducing me to this awesome band! My new favorite band!

  • Man There's not a single dick present in this video.

    Dissapointing.

  • I feel so strippy ! Love it love it love it!

  • first saw this video on beavis and butthead ages ago... by that time I was already hooked on Nick so I was wondering what was everybody laughing about...

  • nick's lookin as healthy as ever

  • wow this stuff from nick cave is so much better than the bad seeds

  • ... did nick just suck a goat off

  • WAT

  • nick is more a stick insect than a fat little one. dude really grew into his looks. :)

  • What did this sound like live. I've been hanging for a video of it live.

  • insect insect insect incest insect incest insect

    Nick the stripper

    A-hideous to the eye

    A-hideous to the eye

Well hes a fat little insect

    A fat little insect

    A fat little insect

    A fat little insect

And ooooooooh! here we go again

  • buenisimo

  • brilliant

  • wow this is genius

  • "we'll just push on through with a hole bunch of ciggerettes, whiskey stained collars and cuffs.."? what birthday party song was that? please help

  • LOL what!! X.x

    awesome vid 5z

  • shut the fuck up! like being controlled? :) O

  • mi pussy is dripping

  • Ma c'è scritto PORCA DI*

    :D auhuahu

  • LOOOOOOOOL

  • You can hear an obvious Doors influence in this song.

  • I'm not sure about the Doors influence - if there is one, it reminds me more of 'Dirt' by the Stooges just for the killer bassline.

  • wow, thats weird, they sound so much like the horrors!

  • This band is one of Joshua Von Grimm's influences, that's why.

  • It's Joshua Third now lol

  • yes i know, i know,

I love this band, i dont think the horrors rip them off, thats what everyone says on youtube *rolls eyes*

  • KiCk AsS

  • yesterday was my first time even hearing of this band, and now they've become my new obsession and nick cave as well

  • johnny borrell has a tiny (facial) resemblance with him... or maybe im the only one who thinks this?

  • OMG I SOILED MY UNDERGARMENTS

  • Nick you rebel rouser! Thank god you never got into smack!... again

  • "...just a bunch of wierd people who have problems." That pretty much describes a good portion of people who have made any significant contribution to human artistic advancement. Also, I hear that the Backstreet Boys are regrouping; perhaps thats more to your liking.

  • If you think this is shit then stick to something your brain can handle. Straight to MTV hell for you.

  • Also it kills the main purpose of music as stipe(rem) said: dreaming; making your own personal cinema in your head.

    sorry for the english

  • Stipe- a real genius! Painting yourself in stripes, spending heaps on videos and spouting 'deep' lyrics does not make you cinematic.Yeah, it is tough for us English. The Beatles, Stones, Who, Kinks, Dusty, Bowie, Roxy, Pistols, Joy Division,Smiths, Radiohead etc. We have to champion your bands before you understand that they are good. Hendrix? Stooges? I can name more. There are many, many awesome US musicians but Stipe ain't one. Your Bono.

  • I couldn't get you clearly, anyway i love some of the bands that you've mentioned(check out my favorites). But it's not his music that i'm talking about, it's the vision.

Btw REM clearly sucks Beatles's balls:)

  • the poor guy is apologizing for his English, not for the English people.

  • Music videos are suppose to represent the song and what it would like if it was visible. Therefor, this is the best music video ever made

  • Actually, the first music videos(beatles's "rain" and "paperback writer") were only made to promote the songs. If you watch "the beatles anthology" you can see George Harrison say "we invented the mtv".It's origin is commercial, so that's a huge lie that music videos have any art value.Anyway it's stupid to express a piece of art by an another piece of art.I believe that any music can't turn visible, nor any picture can be described with music.

  • Oh gosh, i didn't realize the holy BEATLES said that music videos have no artistic merit. I don't know why I ever thought they did. I don't know why I even try thinking sometimes.

  • that's ok because they didn't say such thing, i said it, and i'd love to hear what you think about this, i may change my idea you see=]

  • why put a limit on art?

  • why the fuck cant i find big jesus trash can on youtube?

    fat little insect

  • Overlander no idea...but its the the most disquieting thing Ive seen Nick do...I love his music. :)

  • ahja...sowas hört also unsre frau schilla...unsre tolle kunstlehrarin^^...lol

  • Does anyone know the story of this vid

I heard the director, John Hilcoat, gave the band acid, then filmed the clip in reverse, so they get less out of it as the clip continues.

Also I heard it was filmed at a junkyard, and that all the bums and whores and dealers around St Kilda were invited

  • From what I recall of reading "Bad Seed" you are pretty much right on the mark.

  • how fucking cool is nick cave. i could watch him all day.

  • don't worry, they'll get there!

  • Great trip down memory lane. I say squander your youth by having a good time, harm no-one. It goes by so darned fast.

  • This is my God, This is my Pig, I,m the Stripper

  • this 'song' made me realise i have no life.

right up there with 'big jesus trash can', 'red right hand' and 'o'malleys bar' among the former choirboy's best toons...

    forget marilyn fucking manson.

  • o nick cave se anazitisi trofis.gamaei.

  • I heard once that he thinks the bible is a fascinating book but I'm not sure what he ment by that.

  • The Birthday Party really were one of the few bands who could out-psycho the Stooges.

  • nick cave is sooooo young here...how the F did everyone get so old

  • I believe that's due to the passing of time :P

  • if you are really only 21 now you can't really understand how crazy the passing of time really is to us old folk

it feels like it was only yesterday when i saw nick cave

and that was 19 years ago

don't squander the flower of your youth : )

  • When I saw that video first He got PORCO DIO written on his chest

  • Yeah, he does at 1:25

  • This tune is groovy man

  • I'm so confused

  • i think there are better songs...from the birthday party...my opinion.. .I agree...zaaaaaaaaaa

  • preeeeezzaa.........!!!!!

  • That bass player hit me in the face with his guitar once.

  • I want to be you.

  • I love the Birthday Party, and I love the song....but I don't necessarily agree that Nick is "hideous to the eye."

  • I don't agree with that either. I think he's friggin sexy

  • They should put Nick in the JJJ archives where he belongs.

  • Everything Nick Cave has ever done is solid gold. I'm sad I never ran into him when he and Tom Waits were filming The Asassination of Jesse James here. :( :( :(

  • ooooooo ...

  • actually, he is very religious. he's done some lectures about his beliefs - the flesh made word- if you're interested

  • the beast see the hell and he transform into a man like me

  • He rocked so much in those days - not so sure about his new stuff. Exactly HOW MANY tabs of acid did he have before filming this particular clip, I wonder?

  • great

  • One of the greatest videos of all time according to me.

  • lol Nick Cave is not "religious now"... I wonder where you got that from...

    He is hott!

  • As I understand it he's allegedly a devout catholic . . .

  • err maybe devout isn't the word for it but I heard his "faith" has always been "important" to him . . . whatever that means . . .

  • Simply brillient!

  • Note that Nick has an italian blasfemous tattoo on his chest when he goes out of the tent.

He swears God...funny if u think how religious he is now....

  • Peter Murphy And Nick Cave Scare Me..AHH! Thoses Guys, Vampires!.

  • I'd go gay for Nick Cave back then but now he looks too much like Billy Bob Thorton. Poor Nicky is getting old.

  • It happenes to the best of us.

  • Nick the stripper is not hideous to the eye at all.

  • Nick The Stripper Dances On All Fours

  • christ nick cave is actually fucking hot!

  • YEAH HE IS.

  • God I remember seeing this video on City Limits. Scariest video of all time!

  • NICK RULES!

  • Wow - this brings bakc memories....cool!

  • This is the greatest thing since the creation of Time.

  • was this really 25 years ago? how time flies ...

  • Nick Cave is pretty much God!

  • When I arrive in hell, I sincerely hope that Nick Cave will be stripping there.

  • Agreed. I'm going to start sinning right away.

  • OH YES

  • yeah i cant quit watching this THANK YOU

  • NICK the STRIPPER...man i love it...so great

  • i love him.
