Just to be clear, he didn't say buried. He said entombed. That could very well mean the guy was put in a room down the nice and peaceful hall instead of the dark and foreboding grotto. Just saying
you know, in the dm's commentary, chris refers to tom as the voice of reason...well if he is, he's a piss-poor one - he doesn't pay any attention when the party is told their objectives (apparently thinking they came for the spiders and not the shield) and thinks a shield would be down in the grotto rather than in the regal hallway (which is not only a really stupid argument, but it also displays just how much attention he paid to their objectives)
I would have gone with "explore the places that are flamethrower accessible" plan. The grotto isn't going anywhere. You can come back to it later. And with everywhere else explored, you wouldn't need to worry about how to get the semi-sentient flamethrower out of the grotto. Well, you might want to bring it back out of the dungeon with you, but then you can just use whatever plan you had in mind for getting it up the stairs at the entrance, which was probably Tenser's Floating Disk.
they couldn't have brought it with them out of the dungeon because it occupies a 2x2 square and wouldn't fit up the narrow staircase. basically the only places it can go are the spider's den, the regal hallway or the grotto (assuming they found a way to get it down). all those passages eventually lead to places where they'd have to turn around or leave it behind (see next map) and they couldn't even use it for the dungeon's main big encounter because it can't make it into that room

NOOBS should have had the Drow scout the grotto, and if they need to move down, then move down. If the grotto is empty or misleading then move to the actual TOMB
@rossik Not to be out done by "Whenever we change elevation in our weekly game, it's usually disaster." Followed by a black cloaked wizard that, and I quote "Crazy-d shit up".
I think I can say for sure if my group were to take 7 minutes discussing landscaping for a sentient flamethrower, despite how awesome it is, the next encounter would have shit with fire resistance, lol

@McLovinInfinity Not to mention the fact that they're already deep underground and therefor anything down there is technically buried
