  • .22LR is too powerful for a quail, it ruins the meat. .22 short is OK. .22LR can drop a small deer or wolf. It's funny some comments say it's too weak!

The reason it's illegal is because it's too powerful for birds & bullet not large enough for quick, humane kill of deer-size game.

  • I used to shoot birds with a pellet rifle.....they died most of the time with one shot. I see no reason a .22 would not kill them as well without suffering. Now, squirrels are another story......they did not die easily by pellet.....they usually took anywhere from 5 to 10 shots before dieing. I imagined that they did indeed suffer.

  • It is illegal and stupid to shoot birds with a .22, because the bird will not die and suffer.

  • Good shot. yeah, usually people hunt birds in flight with shotgun(with #8 shot) but when shooting from a distance and the bird is not flying, then ANY rifle is okay too.

  • Question: Do people normally hunt quail with a .22?

That's what I was hoping to do with my .22

  • No, normally you go quail hunting with a shotgun. Not a 22.

  • Bah I asked around and everyone seems to get mad when I say I think a .22 would do a better job. Look how easy this guy did it.

I think people are just use to the tradition of hunting quails with a shotgun.

  • HI

not normally but some times i do

  • In most states in America rules say you have to shoot birds with shotgun, in Iran it's OK.
