you should tell people how much of your gross income goes back into planting the fish back into the ocean. those ignorant fools that say your killing resources are idiots sitting at a desk in a big city,,clueless. they think fish come from restaurants.
and ur so right jaredk51 he knows nothing bout seining... like u said how the fish are running when there running is it worth waiting a turn or anchoring up in this spot cuz u think theres gonna be a good shot of salmon coming thru... i hate ppl who talk bout something they know nothing bout
u so stupid luvschopin u havent seen a hard working day in ur life u desk workin panzy.. i have probably put in more hours of hard labor then u will ever see and im only 17.. why do u try out alaska.. just for giggles and toots u homo
jaredk51 did you fish snow crab are you from alaska i fish snow crab on the east coast of canada thats what they use up there for bait to catch crab is cod is it we use squid here
Fishing this way is the way of cowards. Its the quick fix lets get fat and consume all we can consume method. Consuming any "resource" with no skill or deep thought has come over this country like an illness. There is nothing sporting or skilled about this lazy man make me a buck any way I can method of fishing. Only someone with no spirit could watch these numbers be taken and be comfortable about it.
You have no idea what you're talking about and its clearly obvious. Stay landlocked and lubberized and stay out of things which you know NOTHING about. Go spend a summer on a seine boat. Get into the captian's head about how the fish are running, where, why, time of day, wind direction, change of tide, eddys, rocks etc. Go work 20 hours a day 5 days week and then follow it up with a couple 10 hour days on the weekend for 2 months and tell me about lazy. You are clearly VERY ignorant.

I am far from ignorant, but I appreciate the thought. I am sure Captain Bly is skilled at piloting his craft, but that has nothing to do with destruction of the oceans or greed. Its the cowards way not to join this century and to open your eyes to the new world around you. This isnt 1800. Lazy..in the mind. Stuck in the past. Wake up.
1. commercial salmon seining is not "destruction" of any kind, particularly the oceans. IGNORANT!!
2. commercial fishing is not greed. It is a way of making a life.
Yes, there are types of fishing that not good. Bottom/factory trawling, high seas drift netting are a couple. Salmon seining an efficient means to catch salmon for human consumption, perfectly safe for the environment and the ocean. You're barking up the wrong tree here. Go away. All future comments from you will be removed.
LuvsChopin what... Bait?? I doubt it, you obviously are ignorant when it comes to commercial fishing. These stocks are very well managed. Don't eat farmed salmon they are far worse for the environment than commercial. But of course you tree huggers already knew that, right?
You are an idiot LuvsChopin.really??!!! you are going to open your mouth and talk about this clip and how the Sea Hunter is taking this entire resource from the sea! FACT: Unakwik has a hatchery set up FOR the fishermen like the one you see. 100% of these fish are hatchery fish, common property.
Why? Because harvesting natural resources for human consumption is bad? Would you rather the boat sink, spilling diesel and oil into the environment?
The salmon fishery is highly regulated by ADF&G allowing for proper escapement to ensure enough salmon get up stream to spawn and keep the run going year after year.
Your comment is indicative of someone who doesn't think before they type.
And your comment is indicitive of someone who is not aware that the American Fisheries Society indicated that 214 of about 400 stocks of salmon, steelhead, and sea-run cutthroat trout in the Northwest and California are at risk of extinction. The report also indicated that 106 are already extinct.
LuvsChopin, read the title of this clip "....Alaska..." not the NW or CA. Overfishing has decimated several fisheries in the past, notably the Atlantic cod fishery & sardines in CA. However in the west more damage was cause by building damns than anything else. Alaska's salmon fisheries are the last bastion of renewable resources from the sea. Well managed and well executed. Its a lifestyle that takes great skill and is not a sport whatsoever! Shall we all move to NYC and drink lattes, POOFTER?
Hah, Chatham Straight Counts for sure, done that when I was... 14 absolutely loved it. So did you hang up the raingear or what? I quite fishing halfway through the summer for school and I missed it every second.
i worked for the owner of the this boat, jim frary, on his tender the chalishan, now the coast gaurd owns it because he was busted over quota and on bail, hahaha dumb fucker, but a real cool guy
yeah, bought it from jack back in '04 or '03 as far as I know, spent all last summer on it rebuilding/arranging the gen set room and painted it to match the sea hunter. don't rally know what the outcome of jims shit is gonna be , wish him the best though.

I must say... that is one ADORABLE set. How much was that? 3000? 4000? Try fishing in Southeast where the BIG boys are
Ktownballer21 4 years ago
yeah, probly close to 2500 3k. I did Chatham Straight black cod opener once. That counts as Southest. But funny you say "BIG" boys in SE.
Its all limited to 58 feet anyway. Limit seiners in PWS too. And my fishing days are loooong over with. I miss it at times.

Ktownballer21 4 years ago
Yeah, last I fished was 95.
Chatam Straights black cod opener was a blast.
24 hour derby and we loaded the boat.
Fishing just isn't stable enough, no bennies, not guaranteed. I miss the scenery(Alaska) alot.

Yeah, I know Jim. BS'd with him quite a few times back when I used to fish. I didn't know he owned the Chalishan.
That used to be Jack Lamb's boat, named after his children, Chad, Alisa, Shane.
I read somewhere that Jim got busted. Too bad for him.
