they cannot be written any better than this!!! absolutely touching and descriptive.....I heard this a few times on AM radio... I just appreciated for this wonderful "Genuine newfoundland music of this group and telling aboutyou/ourHardships and how amazing for ye to be put into such beautiful lyrics, GODLESS YOU!!!!100----100
The Picture/House he is singing about is My Uncles and my 3 cousins. From Back in 1961 (i think) The house is being towed in from Silver Fox Island to Dover, Bonavistia Bay
Great song. Resettlement played a big part in the lives of so many in newfoundland. It's good to hear some good newfie music anywhere in the world. My father resettled from a little place called barrett's cove on woody island in the late 50's.
I love this song Bud, I own a Lodge and I have been asked a million times what is this about and when I tell them the story of resettlement and the impact on our people, you can see the sadness in their face.
It's been a year since I first heard this beautiful song and I must have played it at least three dozen times since then. It still brings a tear to my eye. Thanks Bud, for the great music !
I grew up in Belleoram and listen to Simani all the time. I have played their music in from my own bridge in Belleoram to Cape Town South Africa. I heard this song last summer when Sim was giving my daughter and I a tour of the studio. He told me to close my eyes and listen. WOW what a song, Sim I know you are gone but your music will live in our hearts.
So Sorry to hear of Sims recent passing. I will miss his unique musical background in all of Simani's songs and numerous other Nfld. artists over the years. I proclaim him to have been the absolute best accordion player in the province
I have always loved newfie music,Bud and Sim really puts the newfie into the music. This song has to be one of the best, my Mom and Dad also were a part of resettlement game from placentia bay.
My parents were involved in the resettlement program and they spoke of it often. There was nothing adventurous or romantic about quitting school in grade 5 and going to fish with your father. Fishing back then was a form of servitiude to the fish buyers. It was sad to leave your home but there was a vast improvement in education and health care and you had a future away from the fishery.
I have to agree... believe it or not that's my family (a very well known picture :) ...I only wonder what my mom was thinking in this picture. So glad that there is such a touching song made about resettlement
@JButton1970 HI, I actually bought a copy of the photo with the 3 children on the beach today. You say your mom is one of the girls in the photo. Could you tell me what island they were resettling from? Nothing is mentioned on the picture itself. My mom was resettled from tacks beach.
Every time I listen to this song I think our Bud's brother Harvey and how much he would have loved this song............Bud Davidge is without doubt one of the best songwriters in Newfoundland history.
My people were from La Manche which was near Cape Broyle. I knew nothing of life there because we left when I was a baby. My grandparents often spoke highly of the place and wanted to return to the simple lifestyle. A big God Bless to Simani for this video.
Thank you Bud....For this great song. So great... I to was a small boy who stood on the beach and watched a house go out the Harbor ....and wondered why they where leaving....
This song enticed me to read up on the relocation program and it surely was a sad affair. From the profitable settlements on the south coast right up to Hebron in northern Labrador there was a sweeping change. I would like to see some info on how folks made out ten or so years after they moved.
Truly one of the best songs Simini is to our music what Elvis was to Rock and Roll. All us outport folks can identify with this. I can remember my uncle towing a house up our road when i was maybe 7 with his old 10 wheel army truck. It belong to someone re-locating to our small town which was farther up the bay.
Back in '65 I travelled with my father to Sagona Island in Fortune Bay to help move my grandparents to live with us in St. john's. My grandmother cried from Sagona to Grand Bank and she cried, on and off, until Xmas that year. My grandfather was too proud to cry but he was not a happy man. I was only 18 at the time and didn't realize what culture shock was.. This song brought back many memories of them so thank you so much ! !
Thank you for your comment much appreciated. I have heard many sad stories such as yours over the years. I really believe that resettlement is one of the most significant historical events in the lives of our people in this province. I don't mean to say it was all bad experiences because we know that was not the case. It was nevertheless the most wrenching emotional experience particularly for your parents' and my parents' generation.
It still gets me extremely emotional to talk about it .
SIMANI are at it again.....setting us up with super music and video for 2010. Love it. Definitely one of their best yet. Keep them coming guys and we will keep buying. Newfoundlanders away from home seem to appreciate this music more than those who never left. That's ok. I remember watching a home being floated into Grand Bank back then and it was awesome.

Kirk -Thanks for the comment. Yes there's no doubt that was an emotional time for all who
were part of it --leaving home is always sad
but leaving with no hope of ever coming back
is a different ball game altogether.
