  • I like IT!

  • Can't believe what I've just seen. I don't think I'll be watching my old vhs version of this adventure ever again.

  • saw this dvd and it was amazing!!!!

  • Hey @drwhoonline, why is this clip uploaded with such poor audio? Please go easy on the compression settings next time. YouTube can handle full quality video and audio these days!

  • Disintegrating Ogrons! Brilliant!

  • Wow. Could you put any more freaking logos on the screen if you tried? I mean, you still have two corners left.

  • got it. watched it. happy? oh yes!

  • i just watched the new version and its quite good but i have some points to make. (this is all just opinion) 1. Nick Briggs does a brilliant job but sadly it hardly ever syncs quite right with the lights. 2. When the Dalek says "Exterminate" at the end of episode 2 i think i the tunnel, for me it just kills the effect somehow, and finally the final fight looks very nice (like the idea with the 60s camera etc) but there is only so many times you can see the same UNIT soldier killed.

  • Time to retire my Laser Disc version!

Pity its not Blu Ray (next time?)

    Bring it on...

  • Very cool! The new CGI exteriors of the future look a bit simple, but clearly this was a lot of fun to make! And now the Doctor doesn't fire first - as he is not Han Solo, this is a good thing!

  • 11 days till it's released on DVD at long last . . i can't wait :D

  • @doctorwhoone Actually it's possible it will be delayed. i heard from a guy who works on the doctor who DVDs that the copy's may have been destroyed by fires in the riots.

  • OH MY GOD, LOOKS FREAKING AMAZING! :D

  • @dcm2221 Haha, well i suppose that is true. But you wouldn't want to watch The Web Planet with special effects - the dullness is part of it's charm :P

  • Kids today will be confused by Jon Pertwee's apperance. 2E should go all out for the 21st century digital generation and CGI Matt Smith's head over all his shots.

  • MORE DALEKS YAY! im glad theyve done that and it looks like they haven't used CGI but instead just 'cut out' part of the image and put it elsewhere. looks bkloody awesome if I may say so.

  • brilliant stuff can't wait :)

  • why are they using Battlestar Galactica music in the trailer

  • Day of the Daleks is one of my all time favorite Doctor Who serials. I've been looking forward to its release ever since the original show started coming out on DVD ten years ago. And the new Special Edition that's being included looks very promising.

  • Looks Amazing!

  • Nice work! At first I was worried it was non-official (fan made), but it appears to be the real thing. This is one DVD I've been waiting for all year, and now I'm even more excited about it.

  • The release date is 12th September 2011.

  • when does this come out on dvd

  • @darbexcl 12th September according to Amazon

  • Now i don't usually swear for stuff like this but THIS LOOKS FUCKING BRILLIANT! :D

  • This should be standard practice! Imagine that it would be brilliant.

  • Is the orginal version included to? If it is, then I can't see why everyone is moaning.

  • This looks so brilliant, but bound to be expensive

  • @Whacko23 Its 12 pounds 99 from amazon.co.uk. play.com etc which is pretty good value.

  • Have they updated the sound on it ie 5.1 to go with it does anyone know ?

  • @bobfett11 Its impossible to 5.1 remix anything from pre-80s. The original mutlitrack masters just do not exist

  • Its released in a 2 disc set on the 12 september. The original will be on disc 1 with the new version on disc 2.

  • wish they would put this on blu-ray and all the other's

  • when does this come out

  • when does the come out

  • My only two 'complaints' re: 2E doing new effects for this... 1) IMO they should have got Roy Skelton to do the replacement voices (AFAIK, he's the last Dalek voice from *that* era still alive). 2) They're apparently not adding new effects to the re-release of Resurrection of the Daleks?! If there's one story that needs a few simple laser blasts added, it's THAT one... and they have the perfect chance to get people to buy it again by adding a little CGI to the reissue DVD! Why not, 2E? :(

  • @BanjoOz Budget, plain and simple.

  • @GavSalkeld I'd totally understand that normally ("why are there no new effects on X DVD release?") but with Revisitations, the idea was to rerelease with new stuff. Given Resurrection suffers more from the missing effects than any story I can think of (some suffer for bad effects, but Resurrection's are just *missing*!), why re-release it at ALL if they weren't adding them? For a scant few pointless 'extras'? Made it seem like a cash grab to me (compared to, say, Robots of Death).

  • REALLY looking forward to this. I'd hate for the original versions not to be included, but I love seeing the attempts to fix the more effects-heavy stories; some have worked better than others, but most times its a great improvement that has yet to take me out of the show (unlike, say, the attention-whore Star Wars SE's new effects). As someone said, just a few minutes new footage makes Kinda amazing! As long as we have the choice, this is nothing but fantastic! Just wish they'd do more stories.

  • Looks like someone's crayoned all over a great childhood memory.

  • seen this on vhs and is was excellent now i been waiting for this dvd for soon long

  • 8 people are Daleks

pls thumb up so everyone will know

  • 8 people are Daleks

  • One of the great GREAT old episodes!

  • It's mad to see people COMPLAINING about having this bonus CGI effects when they're only an optional extra. I just got through watching Kinda and the replacement snake was a minor change and really made a huge difference. Obviously you can't bring the effects upto modern standards but it's nice to have the focus taken away from the odd dodgy effect and placed onto the story telling.

  • @redfieldblair

the work they did for Kinda was amazing, some of the best special effects i've seen. Rounded up the episode really well too :)

  • @tardiselliot

What other classic Who titles have received updated effects? Thanks.

  • @GhibliFan1

    time warrior

    earthshock

    planet of fire

    black guardian trilogy

    5 doctors

    ark in space

    destiny of the daleks

    ark of infinity

    dalek invasion of earth

  • @tardiselliot

Brilliant... all added to my list. Thanks a lot!

  • @tardiselliot what sort of effects were included? and were the original's available with them as well?

  • @dandaman62

and yes they provide the original version, most times theres an option to activate the new cgi or in some cases a new version of the ep is put on a seperate disk

  • @tardiselliot ah good. thanks!

  • @GhibliFan1

depends on the episodes, sometimes they added new laser effects (earth shock, revelation of the daleks)

CGI space ships (dalek invasion earth, earthshock) time warrior they added a castle being exploded

enlightenment they reedit a special edition second disk with whole new cgi for the TARDIS, ships etc

  • Oh my this looks fantastic, kudos to 2entertain for all effects seen here, it's a nice option, and many fans will probably be overjoyed that they've changed the voices as many people criticize them in this story.

For minor but important details I notice there's an extra dalek in the row I think, also a good bonus

  • they've added some new live action stuff (those four ogrons walking in line and a shot of the top half of a dalek), which is a first, i think!

  • I Am Defo Getting This Even If My Mum Stops Me!

  • what amazes me is that on the 2011 DVD schedule, is that this is last though by what i've seen on the trailer, it looks almost done I'm surprised it's not being releases after Revisitations 2

  • can not wait 4 this one i love this story i seen it an vhs can not wait 4 the dvd to come out

  • i really want Death to the Daleks to come out, never seen any clio from that plus Invasion of the Dinosaurs all 3 off these stories i want!!

  • @Timelordalex Death to the Daleks is excellent mate. My favourite Pertwee Dalek tale. That was the first release I bought on VHS back in the day - can't believe it isn't out already

  • @kamelion7 i've seen a synopsis of the story and it looks really good but it looks like we won't see a releases of it till 2012 :(

  • @kamelion7

totally agree, death to the daleks is my fav pertwee adventure :)

  • @kamelion7 I also think " Death" is my fav', from what I can remember " Day of the Daleks " was a little confusing, But with " Death " I liked all the tunnels( with a robot lazer shooting water snake or dragon? I think?)pluss the puzzles the dr had to go thru to get too this light tower & that's without mentioning the Daleks! But I think " Day " will be alot better with new CGI, they should stick with doing that then wasting good money(what little they have) doing so called

    Special Edition.

  • Cant wait to finally own this story on DVD !!.

For me personnally it's been one thats been on my so called Classic Series DVD Wish List for absolutely years since the first Classic Doctor Who DVD's came out like what 10, 11 years ago now ?.

The Special Effects will no doubt be pritty impressive, making Day of the Daleks look more like a live action film rather then a TV story, and the new Dalek voices will no doubt sound excellant, and coming from the voice of Nickolas Briggs himself !!!.

  • Notice how on 0:42 there are actually four Daleks on the picture, with one being on the farther right.

There were only three Daleks in the original serial.

Basically, they are adding more Daleks. And that is awesome.

  • @WowbaggerGriffin I think they'll need to add a lot more Daleks. Still, it looks very good and I'm looking forward to it.

  • I got the original video of this story back in 1988. I liked the original version so having it modernised is fine by me. It look's great.

I like the story's retro quality and will enjoy checking out Jo's red knicker's in their remastered glory :-)

  • This kind of "restoration" I can really get behind. The shots in here really make this feel like DW the way it should have been! If only they'd had the budget.

I like most of the new shots done for the original Star Trek, though again, due to budget limitations, it's not as clean as I would have liked (even better if they had been able to shoot new models instead of all CG.)

This looks great though! The Daleks looks real, not CG. Still really looking forward to this.

  • wow, they've already completely shown up the star trek remasters in terms of effects quality, and probably with no budget.

  • @boogiejuice This is an optional extra, for fun. The original programme is still there to watch.

  • @boogiejuice

"I hate butchering of the original, bad idea always, crap CGI junk, what next make them 3D? Total idiots."

Yea, taking the time and effort to realize the full extent of the original script's vision is idiotic?

Get a grip you moaning little waster. The original cut will be available too, and if not I'm sure you could just watch the VHS - you know, the pure, analogue way - instead of those "idiots" who are all using this new fangled "digital" stuff? Blasphemers, all of 'em, lol!

  • Woah - this looks fantastic! Day of the Daleks is not as well remembered as other stories due to it being obvious there were only three daleks and the crap dalek voices - this new edition has rectified these points so hopefully, this excellent and clever story will get the status it deserves!

  • Wow! I have not seen the original and probably wouldn't have bothered to ever see it, but after that trailer, I can't wait to see it!

    Awesome!

  • Ah brilliant! The new Dalek voices sound excellent. Time to retire my VHS copy! lol

  • This is GOLD! =D Ive waited for this dvd for ages! Im so glad that they have completely re computer generated every effect , if only this was on blu ray eh? LOL bring on Day Of The Daleks!!

  • I am so excited about this and it looks like they are getting more gore in it and thats good! I will obvioulsy watch the original first since I never saw the episode before

  • @midianholic Are you mad?

In the original, the voices were rubbish!

They just sounded like a couple of guys doing a very bad impression of a dalek voice, without the distortion of the ring modulator.

And personally, Nick Briggs is the best dalek voice we've had since Roy Skelton.

I take it your not a fan of Nick's work at big finish productions.

And one more thing, watch your language.

  • Wow, that was brilliant.

In terms of plot, Day of the daleks should have gone down as one of the best dr who stories ever (history being changed so that the daleks are finally victorious), but was sadly let down, as others have said, by a low budget and rubbish dalek voices. Now finally, it can be the great serial it should have been.

I like the new dalek city buildings, kind of like something from '1984'.

  • Wow, that looks brilliant!!!! I can't wait till it comes out. Thank goodness there fixing those horrid voices.

  • I'm looking forward to this. Day of three Daleks (ahem) was a great story let down by a low budget and rubbish Dalek voices. I disagree with the comment about historical context - there are two viewing options, the original and the update. Bring it on!

  • It's not like you'll be forced to watch the new version. You get the original with it too, so just watch that. Personally, I love seeing Classic Who with Updated FX.

  • @metalgeariain Yeah man, screw the purists!

  • @metalgeariain Both versions? sweet.

George Lucas could learn a thing from these guys.

  • @gn33101 its so incredibly, stupidly, simple to do. You have option A the original and option B the enhanced episode on one or two discs. Why can't Lucas, king of the technical stuff, manage this simple task?

  • @gn33101 I'm pretty sure I have DVDs with both the new and old versions of Star Wars on them...?

  • i so want this dvd

  • I really liked the new special effects in this video of Day of the Daleks.

I own this Dr Who story on an official BBC videotape, and although the Dalek voices are a little bit on the weak side, it certainly is a great story!!

So, this video receives a thumbs up from me!! =)

  • I rarely get dvd's that i've got on video as soon as they come out on dvd. But i think I will get this. (Plus i have got the omnibus version which i prefer the non omnibus edition)

  • @Benton250 I think everyone does... I mean what's the point in a good cliffhanger without the Doctor Who theme bursting your eardrums xD

  • WOW! Excited is not the word! I am running round the room like a kid who has just seen the cybermen at the end of episode one of earthshock! lol

This is birthday christmas in one! hehe

  • @midianholic Apart from the voices ;)

  • Nothing wrong with the original at all. Except for a distinct lack of ray gun effects.

Nick Briggs's vocal talent are sure will vastly improve the monotone Dalek voices in this, In fact, I hope he re-does the Ogrons as well!

  • Nice one, will have to look out for that, that is one story that needed a makeover

  • I dearly hope they have the origional on there - What's the point in watching it if you don't watch it as it was?

  • @TheEocene I'm sure it'll either be a 2 disc or 3 disc edition. I just hope they haven't put the Special Edition in an omnibus format like they've done with the so called improved "Enlightenment" and "Planet Of Fire" =\

  • THATS AMAZING!

  • Blimey. They've really gone to town on this one, haven't they?

It's all optional so that's good, always want people to have the choice, but maybe this extra spit 'n' polish will help push a story I kinda like into a story I definitely like. Hell, that's exactly what happened with the Battlefield SE DVD...

  • It looks stuning. I can't imagine ever wanting to watch the original after seeing this. A must buy - looking forward to it.

  • i am going to get it!

  • i wonder if there going to have the original as well

  • @dAvEo5733 I'm certain of it; All the DW DVDs so far that have new special effects have the original versions as well.

  • @dAvEo5733 yes.

  • Ohhhhhhhhh yeahhhhhhhhhh, bring it awn. :)

  • Wow oh wow oh wow!!!! Looks absolutely amazing!!! Cannot wait to add this to my collection!!!! :D

  • What's the point in the CGI features? They don't have a budget to pull them off, and even if they did they''d become outdated within a decade or so just like the original effects did. Would rather they use the disc space the special edition takes up for features, interviews etc.

  • Oh this is Bow tie wearing cool!!!!

Can some one please get 2lEntertain to make sure this trailer is on the actual dvd as an extra....

And yep!!! Ah'd like the music to be on there too..

Well done all..... For cobbling this together....

Nick Briggs. thank you for the revamped voices.... Same again for death to the Daleks????

Fan Boy Fit!!! Like that. is that a medical diagnosis or a technical term....? };-{)>

By the way.. How long do we have to wait for this..... Oh man!!!!

  • *Coughs slightly* Do excuse me while I have a fan boy fit..

OH MY GOD IT LOOKS F**KING AWESOME!

  • I thought it might be the tenth planet animated, but this looks alot better!!!

  • You gotta love Day of the Daleks!!

  • KILL THE SWINES WHO DISLIKED THIS! probably some sad david tennant fan boys

  • @pelamar121 lol sorry i got heated up :)

  • Never really liked day of the daleks, but the FX and especially the new voices will make me buy it.

  • I think they shud have just left it as it was and not put CGI things in it I like how the original story looking.

  • @penninefilms im sure there will be the option on the dvd to watch the orginal edit

  • @dwho1994 Oh that's fine I have seen the VHS copy of this story but it was one long episode not for parts.

  • @penninefilms The New fx and voices will be an optional extra on the dvd, so you can turn them off if you want :)

  • @kaledmasterme Its not that I don't like the new CGI that they have put in two it I am looking foreword to hear the new dalek voice they have don .

  • Never seen this one before, read the book many years ago. The opening looks like the tripods.

  • this looks brill, some amazing new effects, and a chance to hear it with proper dalek voices

  • Wow.... Hurry up 2011!!!!!

  • WOW! I really did dislike this story, but maybe with some good FX and dalek voices. It could be the best dalek story ever! Can’t wait! =D

  • This rocks. So glad Day Of The Daleks is getting a release.

  • SQUEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I must have this at every possible cost. Look at it! its Amazing!!!!!!

I noticed the number of Daleks havent been bumped up that much though. Hmm. Perhaps they might be flying up above, eithet that or they emerge from the forest later or something =]

  • HOLY **** WANT!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • wow this looks epic

  • People have the right to dislike something if they choose. Please refrain from profanity, as they have a right to air their thoughts / ratings. Of course, I completely disagree and think it totally rocks! :)

  • is this real???????

  • Who disliked this is a Bastard . DAY OF THE DALEKS !!!!!!, cant wait !!!! .

  • Who disliked THIS???!!!

  • This story deserves an updated look.

    Especially with the dalek voices.

    Brilliant!

  • Who gave it the music from BSG?

  • Beautiful!
