I was in Thailand in 2007. You dislike criticism, that's how true democracy is built. Why do you think Europeans are so prosperous we started thinking for ourselves and demanding better conditions. Since I was young, I've asked myself why we love the king. Is he a respectful icon of thailand? Or we do for the sake of unity.

Of course Thai people love their king. They have been told to since the first day they entered school, and told never to question the monarch. Just like North Koreans have been told to love Kim Jung il, and the Chinese to love Mao in the past.

As this king is a good man, it enforces the notion of "all Thais must love the King" even more, and he then become a worshiped icon in the country.
