Hey Mario, would u mind checkin out my drum cover of I Want A New Drug? If you do sorry bout the effects in the vid haha I thought it would look sorta cool :P you rock!!
I'm an oldie ...I followed Mario's brother who was an incredible guitar player...you may have heard of one of the original San Francisco "sound" bands called, The Quicksilver Messenger Service...his playing gave it the sound. Mario, your brother rocked ..and I still listen to him. Peace to you.
I Love when Mario lights that cigg lol What a Awesome Bass Player , My Favorite Instrument ! I saw Huey Lewis and The News back in 91' down here in south florida and Mario was Kicking Ass ! Thumbs Up Mario and Thanks for posting My Friend !
Man... When i was a kid, guys like Mario had TRUE style and tallent... Now-a-days its all computerized beats or sampled crap... I salute yah Mario [ thumbs-up if you salute mario as well ]
@drhillaryharris ...but because there was a Non-Disclosure Clause in the Settlement between the two, when Huey brought it up in their 2001 "Behind The Music" episode Ray Parker Jr. had grounds to file countersuit for Breaching Confidentiality. Judgement: they're both idiots. ;-)
...and cool solo from a non-technical bassist. I actually bought some thumbpicks a few years ago to see if I could switch quickly between playing finger-and-pickstyle the way Mario does here. It's an nice technique.
@By1000ARG - The Song is 'New Drug', and it sounds like the theme tune to Ghostbusters cos the riff was 'borrowed' (or some way 'ripped off') from New Drug.
Great solo! I always loved Mario's sound and bass lines. I also always loved his thumbpicking technique. Very unique. I believe Mario's one of the most underrated bassists ever. John Pierce is good (who Huey has with him now), but he's no Mario.
C'mon bass players are always the coolest member of the band, love his face at :33, what? My turn? Reminds me of Zoot on the Muppets, 80's are still cool
In my opinion Mario's way of playing is really unique. Using a fingerpick like his late brother, strumming and pickin'. He is the king of bass ghost-notes and tight as a sequencer! And still the coolest bassplayer on earth. There is a God!
Yes, the exact Date of the Show was Dec 31st 1989, a New Years Eve Show. Theres a Video of them covering Thin Lizzy's The Boys Are Back in Town from the same show, on Youtube now.
peteandurnot: hard to say....its a bit confusing, but its either from the 87 "Fore" tour or the 91-92 "Hard at Play" tour. Judging by the grey patterned speaker cabs, Im goin' with the 87 tour.

A healthy Mario is GREAT Mario and all of those who find joy in him and his talents.

Apparently Huey succesfully sued Ray Parker Junior for stealing the New Drug riff and using it to create the Ghostbusters theme.

Personally think Geezer Butler or John Entwistle is the most badass bassists; Entwistle with no doubt begin the best one ever.
