it has a sense of healing, yet at the same time, it makes me feel like there's someone somewhere that has felt the same heartaches that I have over the years. :)
I remember I was in my late teens when I first bought this album. This piano solo is so sad but soothing at the same time and I listened to it a lot...
I danced with my 3 month old daughter to this song 13 years ago. I plan on dancing to it one last time when she gets married and I give her away to another man forever. Then I will go to my everlasting resting place.
I remember dancing to this song with a guy 11 years ago. He was a very talented and gifted person. I just found out yesterday he committed suicide a couple years back. This will always be our last song. You are special Andy and are missed. We shall dance again someday.
Every thing about this beautiful song is perfect even the slight echo as if it is being played in a large empty dance hall. We all have memories of the last kiss, the last dance, the last parting, the moments lost forever, I relive them all when listening to this music. This is what music is meant to accomplish.
I decided years ago I want this played at my funeral. On repeat if necessary, as people arrive and whatnot. So, so beautiful. And even the title, "Last Dance" is significant in that aspect.
I always imagine a couple: a guy who plays piano and a girl who plays cello. He starts, she joins, and they are beautiful together. But she dies, and leaves him without an accompanist. Still he plays, and through the music she comes back to him as if she was alive within the song.
@jelliclestar good idea i to wold imagine but a married couple living together a beautiful blonde girl name Krissy and a Handsom Brown heard boy name Tyrell they get merried she 22 and he 20 and 50 years after they got married Krissy dies from a natural caus and leavs Tyrell crying for a year 10 years after her Tyrell dies from a natural caus and they reunite up in heaven in spirit.
@planchino39, how funny, here is what I imagine. a person looking at a piano not really knowing how to play and yet hears a particular melody...starts playing the melody on the piano until the lover enters and says..."what you play is beautiful and yet sounds so sad..."
When I hear this song, I think of a calm wheat field at night with the moon and stars shining above, and I can imagine the victims of the Columbine Massacre coming to me and telling me not to grieve over their deaths.
I too listened to this as a child, it makes me think of the night with a full moon and many stars with fantasy characters from my childhood hovering about. The haunting tone of it provokes so many childhood memories it's amazing. I think about nothing but the good times when listening to this. If only I could go back in time with this playing in the area...
Since I first heard this song in 1998 (when I was stuyding in college), it has always been a song that brings me back to Earth and reminds me of all that is good and worth while.......God Bless you all.
deep, often depressing, feeling of wanting to find love; to be loning for love; to be without a companion to share ones life with, though it is desired deeply.
Sarah has one of the most wonderful voices I've ever heard. Some singers have a lot of intensity in their voices like she does. But not much of them can show that they do not need to sing to be intense, like Sarah does with The Last Dance.
I guess it's from growing up in the modern era, but I like this song much better than most 'traditional' classical music. It has an emotional quality that transcends intellectual or aestetic beauty and goes right for your heart.
wow, that's beautiful.

The lights go dim as the curtain closes
Times forgotten like long dead roses
Familiar faces turn to strangers
All loves lost to hidden dangers
Stars fall from the sky by universe rearrangers
The end of the deck in this game of chance
Still time there is for a final romance
Don your gown or suit and pants
With the grim reaper this will be the last dance

it's so sad, decading beautifully performed. I just imagine two lonely dancers in a dance hall dancing the last dance before saying goodbye
