  • i remember playing my recorder when i was 5. it consisted of me filling my tiny lungs to capacity and blowing as hard as i could. no finger work.. just blowing. i think i want to actually learn it now.

  • Dem flutes :3

  • Deadly!

  • wow! now i feel talented because i can play the recorder!

  • I can just listen this again, again and again... Which is actually I am doing right now...

  • Beautiful. Thank you guys.

  • awesome cool guys

  • Just bought a moeck descant and aim to get back into my playing ... That and get a full wooden consort

  • I loveeee this video... I'd like to get the score of this piece!!!.... couldo you help me?

  • @Luckas0110 it's PDL13 ("Concerto in D minor after Vivaldi by J.S. Bach, BWV 596 - for four recorders")

  • no no no.... no fourth graders playing shitty music... these are, in my opinion, the best The Netherlands has on offer at present although there is so much young talent in this part of the world, it makes your head spin. Not quite the original line up (Paul Leenhouts had left for America and parts unknown) I've been playing since I was 7, with time off for good behaviour when I playing trumpet in a marching band! And I'm still making pretty good sounds 54 years later!!

  • Me encanta este concierto!!! casi me hace llorar....... Gracias por subirlo!! :)

  • when i think of recorders, i remember the days of me getting blue faced blowing the piss out of that thing not making a single decent decisive tone. no homo.

  • 美妙的音樂.

  • I've played the recorder since I was eleven, which is like seven years. It really IS a cool instrument, even if the lack of respect for it is understandable, I think it is sad that so many children quit playing it after a year or two because they get such bad feedback on what they are doing.

  • @TrueTitioooo I am one of those Children who now just turned 17 and still play recorder!! Love it!!

  • Dobrá dechová opora, ale výslovnost do flény jednostraná.

  • sounds like something from dragon quest VIII

  • BRAVO !

    REV 18

  • I thought recorder music wasn't serious but these gentlemen proved me wrong!

  • nice building

  • awww this totally lured my doggie to sleep =]

  • They should so go to Britain's Got Talent LOL.

  • is this fugue... 4 voices in the piece, am I right in saying that?

  • @5am5oonS01 A fugue is a piece for four voices which each have a unique complementary melody.

  • you guys kick arse! oooh don't go

  • you guys kick arse!

  • amazing

  • ha when i saw this i anticipated a bunch of fourth graders playing shitty christmas music, wrong...

  • The problem where I live is that we generally confuse flutes and recorders, I mean when we're not into music very much. So basically Ian Anderson could have played the recorder, people wouldn't give a fuck, they just want to go shake their asses in clubs. Do I sound old? Mmm.

  • A denim jacket with denim pants... man... that's bold.

  • @Paco604

Lay off him. He's Dutch...they can't help it. XD

  • how come their saliva never drip the other end ??

  • @dr10638j Because they don't blow that hard. With brass you have to blow pretty hard, but not usually with woodwinds...

  • Sehr schön

  • Wow, what a difference it makes when recorders are combined. Their beauty is revealed. Wonderful stuff gents. You should be justifiably proud.

  • God these guys are good.

  • my music teacher in school showed us this video

  • if anyone wants to hear some pretty nice recorder songs that I've done feel free to jump on my video page, thanks!

    atbartholomew3

  • elemetary school recorders suck.....but wooden ones rule

  • twee sopranen , een tenor en een bas. Echt super mooi, door hen ben ik weer begonnen met alt spelen. Ondanks een hand die het half niet doet :)

(two sopranos, a tenor and a bas. really pretty, i've started with my treble/alt again because of them! allthough a hand who doesn't work the way it should)

  • @GotToLoveThem all the best to you!! het aller beste!

  • Wow!!. Excelent!!!!.

  • You guys are amazing! Thank you for the pleasure of hearing you!

  • That sounds fantastic!

I just didn't get one thing: is the smallest one a soprano or a sopranino recorder?

  • I play recorder and I'm pretty good at it but I wanna get to play like this guys here. they are freaking amazing! I've played pieces by Liszt and by Mozart at various Musical Events! :)

  • Thanks ged424 & zetacron !

So, have we a tenor & bass, or bass and contra bass? :)

& you're sure the second to largest, it isn't an alto?

  • thumps up if you played a recorder in elementary school/public school

  • WOW If only Vivaldi could have heard this arrangement..........

  • Someone send me the arrangement for recorders of this, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease.

  • this is one of the most amazing things I've ever heard O_O

the composition itself is beautiful, but the sound of recorders compliments it in a special way

  • Can someone please tell me what kind of recorder is the largest & second to largest- the two smaller are Soprano- no?

    thanks.

  • @MsJune999 Google is your very bestest friend in the whole wide world. ;-)

But to answer you question, contrabass, and bass. Smallest is a Sopranino.

  • @MsJune999 to give you a more complete answer, there are ten kinds of recorder which exist, 8 of which are fairly easy to find. They are: (from highest to lowest with simplified, 2 octave ranges) Garklein- C5-C7 Sopranino- F4-F6 Soprano- C4-C6 Alto- F3-F5 Tenor- C3-C5 Bass- F2-F4 Great Bass- C2-C4 Contrabass- F1-F3 Subcontrabass- C1-C3 Sub-sub (or octa)contrabass- Bb0-G2ish some instruments can go beyond the normal 2 octave range. sub and octacontrabasses are exremely rare.
  • @MsJune999 the recorders played in this recording are actually a bass (right) a tenor or alto (hard to tell with the man playing between his legs) and two (i think) sopranos. The part is veeery high for a soprano, and could more easily be done on a sopranino, but the warmer quality of a soprano is probably preferred for this piece to increase the number of overtones in the sound.

  • holy shit! amazing you guys!!!!

  • Thanks so much for this -- what a lot of fun that must be, to play in a group like that.

  • This is the third movement (Allegro) of Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto for 2 Violins and Cello in D minor, RV 565

  • Bravo! Exit stage left :D

  • I like how the quartet is dressed - mixed from casual to formal. It gives the performance a certain feeling of intimacy or of a jam session.

  • awesome,,,

  • inspirational, yet epic. . .

  • Lol.

The first music intrument I've played.

  • Where can I find this recording?

  • @16mmDJ Hehehe... no pun intended, right?

  • @ChopinFanatic19 Haha. No

  • hah, to whoever mocks the recorder has yet to hear this masterpiece!

  • Gorgeous!

  • All teachers whoever abused the recorder by giving it to students in elementary school should be locked up for their crimes. Like the comment below says, they demolished people's respect for this great instrument.

  • @goodguysdoll I think that the recorder is great instrument and important in musical education. Although the stereotype of a kids toy is partly because of this, the recorder educates children that might otherwise have no chance of musical education. This is because a semi-decent instrument is small/light and cheap. I can say that the learning of the recorder helped me a great deal musically

  • @goodguysdoll: I couldn't agree more. I don't think it makes any sense to use the recorder as a beginners instrument. You have to pay so much attention to intonation - but it is tempting to ignore that. And then the recorder changes from one of the most beautiful instruments into an instrument of torture...

  • @goodguysdoll It didn't ruin everyone's respect for it. After all, that's where i learnt to play my recorder first. Admittedly, I had one lesson and said I was fed up of tunes using one note and went away to learn all the notes I could in one night and went back the next week and got bored all over again because I then knew all the tunes in the book. But, yeah...my primary school recorder lessons inspired me and I owe my old recorder teacher a lot, since I'm now doing my Grade 8.

  • btw they'r 2 sopranos 1 bass and 1 tenor isnt???

  • @chetazo either 2 sopranos, tenor, bass, or a sopranino, soprano, tenor, bass.

  • why everybody thinks the recorder is a lame instrument? its beautiful!!!! 8o|

  • @chetazo agree with you there! I play the recorder myself and I must say that it´s one of the most beautiful instruments on this planet!

  • I love song although i can't play it....You guys are awesome

  • I wish I paid attention is elementary music class! xD

  • que lindo!!

    onde eu consigo essa partitura??

  • I can play it!!

  • @lollipopsrock345 have you this score?

    =D

  • seen it befor

    come duvise ?

  • I love playing the recorder. But it would take me a while to learn how to play like that! you guys are amazing!!!

  • Learning the recorder was the only good part of junior high.

  • How cool they are!

  • who wrote this lovely music? Loeki? :)

  • amazing..i did not know that it could sound so great especially with the classics...

  • amsterdam eh? they have to be high in order to think recorder is this cool rofl

  • when you can play them like this..WOW.

  • Просто чудесно , великолепно!

Впервые слышу такой уровень игры на блок-флейтах.

  • This is my favorite recorder song on youtube ever lol

  • nice tenor flue.

  • great!

    i'v been there last year

i play all that recorders to

i practise to become as good as them!XD

  • amazing... i never knew this was possible with just recorders

  • @k3v1nzh4ng O ye of little faith.. just kidding, I didn't know this was possible either.

  • Fantastisch -bravo respect from germany

  • @mihaivitro Germany?? Amsterdam is the capital city of the Netherlands

  • gorgeous,,,i love recorder,,

  • Still have my bitemarked recorder from elementary school....

  • I'm teaching my self to play the soprano recorder in c but it is hard because i'm a low string player

  • i know exactly how you feel but after a bit it becomes simpler

  • @samuelkim1 What do you play? ( i play bass.)

  • i play cello and bass guitar as low instruments

first time i switched to woodwinds ( alto sax) i got really annoyed with it bcause i couldnt reach those dreaded high notes

i still cant reach the notes so well but im getting there :)

    happy practicing~~

  • I love the recorder, but I still think it sounds a lot like a calliope when played classically, which in turn makes me think of the circus. :)

  • Bravo, muchg appreciated; by the way real recorder playing is this and with wood instruments ( I prefer a loto also the wood flute)

  • awesome :)

  • What a music! What a band!

    Amazing.

I came back to practice recorder after 20 years long break last month and I enjoy it very much. This group represents master level that I would like to reach one day.

  • recorders are cool, but my experience with them in elementary school demolished my respect for it.

  • @iplehguitar Sure, but listening to Jethro Tull surely re-established your respect for it ;-)

  • @iplehguitar The problem is that when people play them in elementary school, a great deal of people develop the opinion that they are more toys and teaching tools than actual proper instruments of their own. Outstanding groups like loeki stardust and flanders have had to fight that uphill battle with every performance, but i think more and more people are beginning to see them as real instruments.

  • @iplehguitar

to experience a polish recorder player in a hallway in warsaw gave me my respect back....

  • Absolutely Beautiful!!! I listen to it often.

  • wow this is amazing thats the best recorder song ever!

  • There's something about the sound of recorders that makes me feel a bit happy inside... If played well, that is, like here. Not the poorly played Jingle Bells you hear commonly in schools.

  • What a fun video. I would have put the mics a bit lower :)

  • my. isn't this just lovely, i feel positively jovial.

  • What kind of recorders are those? This actually sounds nice and not squeaky.

  • @EB88 the wooden recorders have better tones than plastic

  • I remember playing the recorder in public school thinking it was the most lamest instrument ever. I was wrong.

  • @kevin11354 Believe it or not, but when the likes of Mozart and Bach wrote music for "flute" this was it, what we call 'recorders'. What we think of as a flute now was developed in the 1800's and was first called a "transverse flute" because it was played held sideways instead of in front of you , like most wind instruments are.

  • Beauty, in its purest form.

  • favourite... all i need to say rly

  • lol that was like the eddie van halen of recorders

  • I love it! A mi me gusto tan mucho! Gracias!

  • amazing!!!i love it

  • Amazing!

  • Very pretty work. 5 stars!

  • this is real gd and can evabartosova SHUTUP for god sake we dont care about expensive recorders

  • Fantastic!!!

  • This is so beautiful I often watch it.

  • Evil mic took best the worse recorder...but good one has not problem with any recorder...microphone for recorder.

  • thanx for the info

  • Plus of the cheapest I have is that does not give so high voice and so can be used in night, so I smile from it, I ordered other 5 times plus when I got them and then changed to that most expensive Aulos... almost does not function that most each!

  • I have experience each recorder is very different in many ways... most cheap I have almost does not function-I bought most expensive Aulos and is excellent, but very different than the others...Yamaha plays as having mistakes sometimes but when I change more expensive instrument I play excellently...and each recorder has other kind of holes, little different holes, material...each sounds different, on each is differently play possible, difficult or easy....good is to have several kinds

  • do more expensive recorders sound better then the cheap ones?

  • I have experience that my most expensive ones sounds better than cheap ones...playing is perfect, some are easier to breath and some worse and tomorrow I get other wooden recorder...of mark I am very curious, I look for one kind and aspect of sound....each recorder is very different I have...you can find it on twitter how I proved them the sound...mp3 files

  • whats the other instruments ? the long brown ones? are those recorders too?

  • DinkyJuJu- Yes they are all recorders :) but the bigger ones are lower in pitch (Y) like a flute and a piccolo.

  • Wonderful performance!

  • greatt!!!!

  • so cooool. i used to play the recorder when i was little lol.

  • I wanted only again to praise you as HRH for nice atmosphere and nice music....really beautiful to my royal ears....really nice...and nice instruments and room....

  • my recorder only does one sound...

  • i play the recordeer i have lesons at school its a hard thing to play you know

  • @danbroad9: i play the recorder at school 2 [its a required class:(] its not that hard, it just might be your teacher

  • @K3NYALATRiiC3 By "at school" I would assume you mean the basics they teach you in elementary - Jr. High School. The instrument is very difficult to achieve competency in, especially at anything approaching this level. The fingerings are taxing, but time spent on this instrument, like most others, has its obvious rewards. Anyways, as for this piece, absolutely beautiful musicianship and something I wish I would hear far more of.

  • @Beyshutulai well i play the basics at school then..i dont really care forreal...

  • No need to take offense, I wasn't saying anything bad about you. Recorder's aren't everyone's cup of tea. Was just saying that to suggest the Recorder is an easy instrument is incorrect.

  • oh i didnt mean to sound offended..i just meant that the class im taking about the recorder is easy...i said it wrong i guess.lol

  • This is very beautiful!

  • that is so cool!!!!!!!

  • This what recorders should sound like - when played by professionals who know what they are doing. This a performance most recorder players can only aspire to.

  • Amazing.. touching playing.. beautifull voices..

  • Awesome! Love the harmony and the well-balanced sound! Keep up the gd work guys.

  • How fun! I've played in a group in the Shenandoah Valley for 20 years but we are nowhere near as good. thanks for sharing.

  • Beautiful!

  • Pretty Amazing.

  • that was fucking awesome !

    good job!

  • thanks.

  • so i really wish i could find some other recorder players to play with. I can't seem to find any anymore. :(

  • there is a big group in Cornwall.Contact Society of recorder players for details of groups near you

  • recorder pros' man

  • wow I didn't know recorders could sound this phenomenal. I had lessons when I was like 3 or so and had absolutely no appreciation for it. Nice performance.

  • Wow that sounded great! xD

  • I might be wrong about this, but if bass recorders are that big, wouldn't the finger hole sizes and spacing get bigger as well? Don't you need to have like, gorilla hands to play them?

  • pretty much yes you would - but if you look at around 1:36, you'll see he's fingering keys rather than the finger holes directly :).

  • Vivaldi is one of my favs!

  • brilliant :)

  • moie

  • Very nice!

  • Is this Bach???
