hey maybe you can help me i working on a 94 accord i removed the axel (passenger side) and measured it to my new axel and they are the same size but my new axel wont come out threw the disc as if it was to short but they are the same size? any suggestions?
instead of prying out your old axle what you could do is wrap a chain around the end of it and tug on it, let it slack, tug again, and repeat til its out. just did it.
I do this to my honda civic dx 96 and the clicking when i turn the weel is gonne, but now when i reach 70 miles per hour and up,my car vibrate a lot.... So what happened?
@CaptianAnthony if its like a 99 CRV I just worked on you need to use a hammer and long extension or metal bar as a chisel of sorts. IT also helps of you rotate the opposite wheel so you can hammer at both sides of the cv joint case. Good luck!
Hey, I got the first one out, but I took it to O'Reilly auto parts and spent about an hour just to find out that the biggest size they had for my specific car was a 38", but the one I pulled out of my car was a 40-41" (drivers side of a '95 honda accord 4 cyl.). Will the 38" one work??
@nukem384 I have heard that people say they measure it while the joint is compressed when they measure the new ones, can I stretch it out or something to make sure it is the same as the old one?
Any tips to remove pressed rotors without taking it to a mechanic? I have full access to a shop. This video was exact by the way. Took 30 minutes to change both axles
Hey nukem, i replaced the axles, l-r control arms, both lower ball joints, both tie rod ends, and when i hit a bump the wheel moves to the side where bump was? what should i replace next?
Thank you for the trick on lower ball joint,I didn't even get out my pickle fork. I also didn't remove the wishbone , just moved it forward and down and the axle came out easy. keep up the cool tricks. Bud......
i put in a new axle, it drove good for 5 mins and than poped out the trans i counted the spind and the snap ring is in place do you have any ideas?? thanks for the help
Can you help me here, i have a 89 accord so theres a damper fork but the damper fork to lower arm bolt (which you are taking apart at 1:09) is stuck. i can loosen and take the nut off but cant take the bolt out. Cause of this i cant remove the fork to take out my axle. Any suggestions?
ps: i tried hammering it out( for like 20 mins) with no luck, also tried heating it, wd40 as well.. im stuck here!! >:(
Everything you described worked perfectly. I really like putting a 3/4" drive ratchet handle between the ball joint and the lower frame, then lowering the rotor and it POPPED loose just like you said. The new one snapped into place just fine. I got some silicone grease to coat the new rubber boots to preserve them. Thanks a lot!!!
@nukem 384 Will you be able to explain (or if it makes sense to you) the Tie Rod End coming loose and damaging new axle. Took 95 Honda Accord EX to mechanic to replace Left Shaft Axle. Two days after, the Tie Rod End broke off and mechanic is charging additional $150 includes new axle to fix again. He claims the Tie End Rod was not touched/handled by them. From what I have researched and watched on your tutorial, mechanic had to. Please help I need an expert's second opinion.
@HappyDebtFree your tie rod end couldve just broken from wear and tear. as you see in my video, i didn't touch the tie rod end as well. unfortunate timing tho for you.
This looks easier than I thought, I have to replace 2 axle and 4 rotors and brake pads and a timing belt too. This video helps on the axle part. Thnx bro
Quick question: what is the acceptable runout for the shaft once installed. I checked mine and it has 0.038" on the left side (at centre), and 0.030" on the right...(at centre) :(
When you tap on the axle end with the hammer, you might want that old spindle nut on there loosely to protect the threads from the hammer in case you miss!
The only tip I have is that if you don't have a good jack like you have in the video, and only a scissor jack, you can put the 1/2" drive across the arm and bounce it up and down a bunch until it breaks free. Not the most professional, but it worked!
One thing i was waiting to see was re tightening the lower ball joint nut..hit it with the impact? torque it..in the air; on the ground half tightened then torqued...? Thanks
@DonMecanico the passenger side axle is directly connected to where the tranny fluid is held, so if you don't drain the fluid, it will all come out once you pop the axle out. either way, you have to change it.
ok... i did this exact same process.... but when i went to put the drive shaft back into the transmission,, there is a pipe looking thing that is in my way.. cant get the drive shaft all the way......
any idea what could of couse that.. or a way the i can get threw it?????
Dude, you make some DAMN GOOD tuts, that's amazing, thanks bro! I'm doing this on my accord over the winter. My boot is ripped, and my abs light is on. I'm hoping that will cure the abs (the dealer told me it was the axle) and I'll be able to pass inspection now!
Hey great video! I'll be changing mine soon. Mine is a 5 speed and I was wondering if I have to change the gear oil in this just as you have to change the fluid in an automatic since I'll be doing the passenger side. Thanks!
Hey Thanks for the Video btw!. Im thinking about tackling doing this. My symptoms are vibrations at 60mph. At first I thought it was my rims but then I put on my winter wheels and same problem. Maybe I messed up my axle when I hit a pot hole and dented my rims? :-( When you put in your video, you say that I need to change my atf fluid? Should I drain the tranny b4 I pull out the axle? I have an 04 accord.
@kapow151 thanks for the comment! ive done it both ways and its fine either way. reusing the old one is fine, just make sure you stake it after youre done torquing it.
@nukem384 before seeing this video, I was actually half way through doing a b16a swap and got stuck and couldn't move the suspension arm until I saw this video lol
Hey thanks for the tutorial! Our old 96 Accord has been clicking for a while and I bought axles yesterday for it. Looked on here this morning and found your video-watched it twice and changed both axles out quickly!! I had access to an impact wrench which really helped loosening the 36mm nuts.
Good for another 120K now!
Good, detailed explanation of process....Thanks again!
thanks for posting this ... it helps me a lot . for the first time i will try to do it by my self saves me money and can u post also if u have time to how to change the cvboot grease and installation ... thanks !
@tigaspinoypower for the price of new axles ($60-70), its much more efficient to just change the axle than bother taking the boot off and trying to re-grease the cv joints!

Great video, but how did you pop out the driver side axle?, I tried a pry bar but their was nothing I could see to pry against?
CaptianAnthony 1 month ago
@CaptianAnthony for the drivers side, you have to do it where the axle connects to the intermediate shaft.
