  • Hi Clarebannerman, This is great craic! I met you at O'Donoghue's last week at the Wednesday night session. You asked me to comment so here I am. You do have a lot of videos!

  • I have a tiny bit of irish blood in me and I go in a trance whenever I hear that sound.

  • It brings out the Irish banshee and druid in me, elemental rhythms, earthy, tribal. Fabulous musicians playing with great spirit. And then theres the beer.

  • The best Irish Group in the world. I have been privileged enough to see them in concert twice. The first time the flutist played masons apron and only the flute. There was a drum beat, but no one was playing the bodhran so what was it. A few seconds later I discovered it was 3800 people tapping there foot in unison, To this day I get chills just thinking about it. Long live the Chieftains and the wonderful land there from!

  • I am related to one of these gents and I have to say I am not into this kind of music but they do an awesome job.

  • if your foot don't tap the floor, you are not irish

  • A ledicia da liberdade... :)

  • fantasticos los musicos pero no asi las cervezas mellor estrela galicia CERVEZA DE CALIDADE saudos carallo!!!

  • Can you say Part 1 / Part 2 to divide identical titles?

  • i think the 2 people that hit "dislike" probably thought it said "dis i like"

  • never been more proud to be irish!

  • Don't like Moloneys style. All tv and no lift

  • Damn I can't wait for the Irish Faire this summer..

  • Love Fred Finn's!

  • I love listening to The Chieftains! Absolutely fantastic music! Look at Paddy's wonderful smile! Don't they all look fine! What joy! Thanks, Michael. Earlier comments say the first reel is "Fred Finn's;" the second, "Castle Kelly;" and the third, "The Red-Haired Lass." Is that right?

  • wonderful!

  • Comment removed

  • absolutely outstanding,i'm gunna go and have a guiness

  • It doesn't get any better than this...

This is extra special for me as I had the wonderful opportunity to sit in that

Pub exactly where these wonderful musicians are playing on this video.

There are none better than the Chieftains

  • X-Factor, my arse!

    Quality stuff.

  • Wow! They make it look so easy. Incredible!

  • LOVE THIS SONG! I also love how they are rocking out and drinking the greatest beer in the world Guinness!!!

  • I saw online at the pub website that there was free admission to the Saint Patrick's Day festivities. Made me GREEN with envy of those able to attend.

  • Slainte,

  • just another day in the pub ha ha brilliant.

  • this pretty much kix ass, but what do I know, I'm only Irish American...

  • Very good ;)

  • Fantastic sound, I couldn't keep my feet still. :-)

  • What an experience it would be to sit and listen in to a session such as this.

    Great video Mike.

    George

  • Brilliant in a spirit-lifting way...

Brings out the Celt in me, though I'm Slovenian =)

  • awesome

  • Thanks for this. In my opinion, the beauty of most of this videos is seeing how the players smile and joy with the music. That´s the real spirit of this music in the first place.

  • does any body know the name to the last tune? i play it but cant remember it

  • The red-haired lass

  • Is the lady on the fiddle Sean Smith's sister? I've forgotten her name.

  • I think it is Cora Smyth. If I am wrong it is Breda... awesome musicians!

  • This Pub sessions medleys are so great!!!

  • Aye!

  • God love the Irish! He gave them an Emerald Isle. A thirst and the brew to quench it , and the music to charm the angels!

  • Only 1 female artist?

  • and a fine talented woman she is!

  • I agree! Love the music!

  • It's so rare to see woman playing traditional celtic music?!

  • Maybe....Check out the Corr's. Those three sisters are amazing!

  • They are amazing, but in celtic music, there is so many fusions and non-Celtic music so it becomes less celtic then it was 50 years ago?!

  • I saw two one on the fiddle one on the harp

  • You must either be blind or you didnt watch the whole video. There are two, one on the fiddle and one playing a harp.

  • will somone put the guinness ad that was shot in blouser's up on you tube

Top of the Pops - Irish Music wise --

    FRIST CLASS,,,

    jim,,

  • This music puts a tear in my eye and a grin on my face.

  • i feel the same way

  • This makes me pour a glass of Guinness!

  • Wonderful music.....I agree, if you aren't up tappin your toes then you are brain dead....it's wonderfully lighthearted....

  • I have had the pleasure of seeing them live and drinking pints with them all after a concert back stage here in CA. Great evening, great music and genuine good lads. Sadly, Derek Bell has passed.

  • Delightful, I cant imagine how much fun that is.

  • This is true!

One of my favourite Irish Bands

    Thanks for sharing

  • WHAT A BRILLIANT SET OF MUSICIANS

  • 'The authorities should play this music in morgues to determine whether 'the stiff' is really a goner.' SO SO VERY TRUE...lol. how can ye NOT tap and clap? well if you were tied up i suppose, otherwise...THANKS to DR.

    ErictheJazzer

  • The authorities should play this music in morgues to determine whether 'the stiff' is really a goner. If the feet don't start tapping and the fingers don't start popping then the stiff is definitely brain dead and cerainly deceased. That's my contribution to medical science, folks.

  • Hahaha well said,So you can imagine what its like for us Irish Im still tapping to a tune I heard 3 days ago,Peace.

  • El cielo debería parecerse a esto y no ser esa cosa aburrida con angelitos, nubes y un señor barbudo durmiendo la resaca.

  • geil gut zum saufen macht sehr gute lqaune der track respekt homes

  • cause i hear hiphop everywhere n everytime i think that this song is even better than all german "public-muzik"

respekt stop the war in ireland and never comes back

Ruhrpott HipHop Graff n Spliff 4 life

  • i would love to have been in that pub suppin a guinness and listening to these people!

  • "Amongst the musicians is the Rev.Gary Hastings from Belfast".

... And lets not forget Cora Smyth, (from Co. Mayo) there in the corner. She's won All Ireland Fiddle Champion quite a few times!

I love playing this music, I love listening to this music and I love seeing the these masters draw such magic from wood, metal and a bit of horse hair.

  • I love this video...great music and a guinness...WoW!!

  • If this doesn"t get you moving, nothing will !!!

  • god save the orouke

  • i'm an o'rourke!

  • The last tune is a reel called "The Red-haired Lass".. does anyone know the names of first two?

  • This is my poob in Ireland. My mother live in Westport and it's a great treat every year or so to have some great craic in this very room. Make me smile and very happy.

  • Happy St Pattty's Day !

The Chieftains are the best, and Bless and rest sweetly my dear Irish mother Mary Frances Kiely Murnane. We all miss you.

  • This is simply brilliant, just the sort of atmosphere I would love to be in.

  • I agree, being there to listen to the Chieftains close up and enjoying a pint would be an experience I would remember for the rest of my life.

  • You just can't beat the Chieftans they are the best.Lovely.

  • Excellent!! The Irish are the best session people on the planet. I wouldn't mind sitting in on one of these.

  • Very nice, keep up the good work Chieftains!

  • derik bel rip

  • Amazing, one of the reasons im proud to be irish!!!!!!!! Thank you for this video, i love the song!!!!

  • why? just because you are a typical yankee loser who has no life and hopefully will find your ancestors are from ireland which would make you a human being and not a yankee piece of shit

  • Typical american fucking moron. Your country is full of spineless fat wankers, im proud to be irish like every man woman and child in this great land, a country stepped in tradition, culture and charm! America is full of mcdonalds and fucking muppets like you. Now go back to your bucket of chicken, you un-educated dickhead!!

  • Sad how one rotten person gives the USA a bad name. I've been to no less than 3 Chieftains concerts here in the States and every time they have been filled above capacity. There are many here who remember and honor their ancestry.

I just don't want one internet troll to make it sound like the US in ungrateful.

  • WTF is *your* problem. As a second-generation Swedish-American, I know enough about the history of the US that the Irish have largely made this country what it is today, perhaps more than any other ethnic group. You are, sir, a maroon!

  • lmao u sed wt i was about to say, lol

  • I've never met someone that ISN't proud to be Irish..

  • Second tune is Castle Kelly, a session staple. It's a simple tune, learn it!

  • First one is Fred Finn's, last one is The Red Haired Lass. Don't know the name of the middle one.

  • can anybody say what are the tunes?

    sensational playing!

  • I'm from France and I went to Ireland last summer. I spent a night in this pub and that was absolutely wonderful. Thx for sharing it brings me back really good memories of pints and music. I can't wait to see this country again !!!

  • absolutly agree, i'm from spain and i miss this kind of music, so natural with feeling passion and good taste today's musician's are so fake... and those guys here you have, 40 years and still in a very good shape, (except derek bell....)

  • Now this is music! I'm a 19 year old guy from Ontario, Canada and I'd take this over "50 cent" and the like any day. They are real musicians! WOOT!

  • Its never too late to start listenig real MUSIC;)

  • hi i was in this pub every when i was living in westport

    do you know it???

  • Bravo!

  • This is a fantastic pub - Matt Molloy's (he is playing the flute, seated beside Paddy Moloney). If you are anywhere Westport its well worth the visit. He does a great pint of plain.....

  • Wel, I'm not Irish and I don't live in Ireland. But one thing I am sure of, those pilsners were full of Guinnes. =Stefan=

  • Oh my god that pub is in my street! I know those people! The nicest ones you'll ever meet!

  • The first is Fred Finn's, the second is Castle Kelly. I don't know the 3rd so I'll go with Clarebannerman on it.

  • FAB VIDEO BY A FAB GROUP

  • splendide :]

  • just brilliant

  • A lot of top class musicians here; from Kevin Coneff with bodhran to the right; Gary Hastings, flute; Matt Molloy, flute; Paddy Moloney, pipes; Cora Smyth, fiddle; Sean Keane, fiddle; John McHugh, fiddle; Peter Molloy (Matts son), flute; Martin Fay, fiddle. The flute player next to Derek Bell on harp is indeed Peter Horan. Don't recognise the female harpist neither the guitaris or the fiddler at the end.

  • Piper is Liam O'Flynn, not Paddy Moloney...

  • No way, that's Paddy Moloney (head of the chieftains)

  • you're absolutely right! I was probably still under the effect of last night guinness ;-) and they absolutely don't look like each other at all, i was really out of my mind :-p thanks for the video by the way clarebannerman!

  • No that's Paddy Moloney

  • DEFINITELY Paddy Moloney

  • <3 <3 <3 <3

  • this is what music's all about, now isn't it..

  • how fun!!

  • Oh, to be sitting in the pub that night with a pint in front of me...

  • Correct--it is Peter Horan.

  • Isn't that Peter Horan, Fred Finn's playing partner, with his back to the camera?

  • Derek is now playing the Harp in Heaven with all the Angels R.I.P.

  • Yep, the first one is Fred Finn's. I know the second one as "Castle Kelly". The last is indeed the Red Haired Lass.

Great to see "ding dong" Derek Bell playing along.

  • Is the first one not, Water From The Well?

  • The first two are Fred Finns Favs, the third I think is The Red Haired Lass.

  • what is the name of reels
