  • Scary.

  • i think PSYCHOTIC WALTZ - TOOL - AND DREAM THEATER ARE AWSOME!!!!

  • WHY YOU NO LIKE TOOL!? THEY AWESOME

  • People debating about what's prog don't seem to realise that progressive music

technically just means it doesn't follow standard song structure, hence the term

'progressive'. So yeah, Dream Theater, Tool, and Psychotic Waltz Are all prog (metal).

As a side note, Tool is awesome. (the guitarist and bassist aren't amazing, but Danney Carrey and Maynard James Keenan rock at what they do)

  • One of my all time favorite bands ever- along with the mighty Watchtower.

This self financed 1st album still stands the test of time- no one out there like Psychotic waltz- truly original - and that is a very difficult thing to say

  • @jkvocalist Would you consider adding Spiral Architect to that list?

  • @Descalabro

An amazing band- as are Twisted Into Form & Extol.

Spiral Architect - I can really hear the PW influence in their sounds- especially the vocalist - looking forward to their new album :)

  • @jkvocalist Yeah, I like Twisted into Form too. I also like Extol, but I only know the old Extol. Do you have any news about a Spiral Architect album? I had quit waiting for that already.

  • @Descalabro

I just heard they were actually in the process of recording- on their Facebook page or was it myspace? either way i was stoked as they are incredible.

Extol - Synergy is my favorite album - they seemed to get the mix of aggressive and melodic parts just right on that album.

Was lucky enough to see Psychotic waltz last month in Germany- have waited many many years and although a short set- (was a festival) they did not disappoint and i look forward to their new album :))

  • Dream Theatre is pretty decent and all that but i mean this is amazing prog metal. :) But you gotta think of the bands that laid the ground work for bands like this!

  • SUPERB!!!

  • @stupgamer13 symphony x are a difernt type of prog metal, they are super technical and have an epic element in their music nothing like pw.i like both bands a lot but they are not similar.(sorry for my english)

  • @oiletful1

And they both come to my town :D

  • this is true progressive metal, not bands like Tool or Dream Shiter

  • @HeavyThrasherMPDS you cant really say that cause they all sound so damn different

one of the best things about prog metal by the way try symphony x you might like them if you like this

  • @HeavyThrasherMPDS I guess you haven't heard anything from Dream Theater!!!You are a fucking troll!

  • @LostRules88 I have listened to it, and I don't like it, but I respect them as musicians. Simply as that

  • @HeavyThrasherMPDS Fuck yea man, so damn true... Tool is a disgrace towards real progressive metal bands like this. Dream Theatre is not as bad as tool but they still arent part of the good in progressive

  • @nootnam Dream Theater are pretty much sums up maybe 90% of prog metal.

A bunch of talented, I'm sure, musicians composing music that just ends up being rather boring and stale. Too much prog and not enough substance, really.

  • @HeavyThrasherMPDS why would you compare bands though? tool never classified themselves. much love bro, i respect all musik

  • HeavyThrasherMPDS I respect this band but this is not progressive, the perfect definition of progressive is dream theater ,they respect in all their cds they respect the term progressive, this band its a half progressive and half trash metal

  • @HeavyThrasherMPDS Yes, Tool sucks and is not metal. But Dream Theater rules!

  • @HeavyThrasherMPDS

Fuck off dude, Dream Theater is pretty damn good. I know people get tired of hearing about them but they've brought a shitload more attention to this genre than Queensryche and Fates Warning have. Perhaps you've forgotten what it was like to not be able to get most decent prog songs to show up when you search them on youtube. I apologize for my brashness but to write off DT in the same breath as Tool is pretty short-sighted.

  • @HeavyThrasherMPDS All i needed to see, the whole "trve" thing has now expanded to prog?... Geez, that's so childish... Shut up and enjoy the music.

  • @HeavyThrasherMPDS tool is an amazing prog band, and dream theater is a true progressive band you half-wit

  • MADNESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • Finally, someone uploads this song with decent audio quality!

  • First track on the greatest technical metal album ever(only Spiral Architect's "A Sceptic's Universe can compete for that title.) Keep in mind this was written around 1988 and released in '90. Talk about ahead of its time.

  • @blakfloyd

well, I would consider adding Watchtower to your list and "Perfect Symmetry" and/or "No Exit" by Fates Warning.

But you are right it was ahead of its time. It is still ahead of our time, come to think about it
