which key is this in? and did you have to retune any strings differently than the standard EADG? just curious because I am trying to learn the C Major version of this on the bass and honostly you are the best bassist i have found so far :/
@that1guy0071 it looks like g minor. Thats what I would GUESS from his hand position. g minor is a good key on this song because you get to use the advantage of the open g which appears often.
Played sans vibrato - excellent accuracy! Your dextrous thumb position work made the side of my own left thumb sore just watching you! Well done! In the 1960's, Leonard Bernstein introduced "The Carnival of the Animals" to a youthful audience and the Swan was played on the bass rather than the usual cello. It sounded rich, full and perfectly natural and I wondered why it hasn't been done more often. I suppose it wouldn't do to upset the 1st cello of the orchestra by farming out "his" piece!
Very nice tone, one suggestion: play slightly closer to the bridge for pretty much the whole song to give great tone to every one of your notes. Overall though, very well played.
@Jwk1706 I think you may have misunderstood my comment, It's really obvious that the double bass is much deeper then the cello.....only an idiot wouldn't think so.. What I was trying to say is that Cellist's lowest note they can play is a C, and usually the double bass is an E, so with the C extension, the Double bass player can also play down to that C below the stave if you know what I mean?
This really should have more views. I'm a cellist myself but I have played the double bass a little, and I know that it is so much more difficult to play with a good intonation than cello. This is a great performance; solid quality all through the piece. Wow!
@vadervspredator I completely agree with you!! I am 14 and play bass! and im sure we all know its not the easiest instrument to play.. but people like him do give us something to work for and to set goals for ourselves!
@Davia23 The best is kept to the few right? Do you know the story where a famous violine player plays a piece by bach in the streets and about 90% of the people didn't recognize it, only few people listened to him... The next day he played the same masterpiece in New York in front of thousands of people or so...?
@FilmComposeRaHoppe I actually did not know that :) It's sort of funny how that works sometimes though. I saw a video a while back of this kid playing moonlight sonata at a party and he was simply playing his heart out and no one was paying him any mind at all...is was a little sad to see how little the people at the party thought of this child's talent...and he was indeed talented.

@vadervspredator I am only 13 and play cello. He gave me the inspiration to preform this song in a school concert. Have been practicing this song everyday.
Wow! I've been playing Cello for four years now and that song is not very easy haha. I can not imagine how hard it must be on the bass! I've just started playing bass :D
I'm a 16 year-old aspiring professional bassist learning Bach's Prelude and Bach's Suite No. 3 for college auditions...and you're nailing this like it's nothing at all! Any advice for a high school bassist?
You are amazing! I'm lucky to have the pleasure of playing with you....you are not only a great bass player, but you're humble about it and just an all around good guy!
Glad you posted these, it keeps us cello players on our toes!
Wow! I've heard a lot of bassists play this and it seems like only big names can do it justice but You totally pulled it off! Gorgeous tone! You're an inspiration, thank You :)
howd you do that? thats so amazing. I get so many squeaks when I try playing this. and the 2nd half is too hard for me. well done.
