One of the few bands that have existed where you had to watch all 4 members because they were so captivating! There will never be another band like them ... ever!
Wow! Ultra rare, I had no idea anyone was taking any notice of what we were doing on the Island then. On leave from the Army, RAMC:, went over to Wooton with my mates: did not expect to see Bob Dylan in the flesh, or the Who, Bonzo Dog etc. Thanks a million from an old ex-hippy,
I was there at this festival for 3 days as an American who was in Europe after graduating college in the US.
The WHO got on stage via a helicopter. Dylan played with The Band, Joe Cocker, Richie Havens, Pentangle, Blodwyn Pig, Moody Blues, Tom Paxton, Edgar Broughton Band.
Didn't Keith Moon play this gig with a broken ankle? Apparently they shot him full of painkillers (probably on top of everything else he'd ingested throughout the day - bless his heart!) and he went on and played...painkillers or not, broken bones HURT!
I love it when they do these two tracks together...it really pained me when the 1970 concert from the Isle of Wight was butchered so badly and these weren't on there. Shame on Murray Lerner and those who edited it!
@13yguitarman or Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac. There's a famous Oslo Norway B&W version of "Rattlesnake Shake", and while Peter Green is playing some tremendous solo, the focus is either on Mick Fleetwood, or Danny Kirwan!?!?!
yeah my fav was the fringe jacket he wore at woodstock, after that i bugged my mom to get me a fringe jacket, it was all the rage i was only about 12 but what the hell i got one ,but the fringes were not long enough like Daltreys..
same with Isle of Wight 70 and Woodstock. yea, they released IOW in color, but it was so cuttup, why can't ne1 find the whoe damn thing? And what about the color footage of Woodstock, there were like 5 or 6 cameras (including that black and white one that caught the whole thing) why can't we get all of that when we know they filmed @ least like 90% of it!
@DEADHAWK076 when jeff stein made the kids are alright, he found the whole woodstock performance pro-shot and in color at the warner bros. studio. he only released 3 of their i think 24 song setlist in the movie. he could have at least put the show on the kids are alright DVD bonus features or make an effort to make another who movie, but instead of a documentary have it be just the woodstock show! Woodstock '69 is my all time favorite who-show!
on the 4reel dvd of this isle of wight 1969 show, there is a brief 10-15 second clip as an extra that shows footage of this gig in colour. apparently, according to the anyway, anyhow, anywhere book, a french television film crew filmed the whos set in colour! if only this would surface...........................
Being 1969 doesn't excuse poor taste on the part of whoever filmed this amazing performance. MOON and ENTWISTLE kicked ass, and not a single shot of them!
Performance kicked ass, hell yeah! But the camera work DID suck.
In fact, this is probably one of the best audiance filmed bootlegs u could find. Look at any bootleg filmed from the audiance of almost any band and its shit. So in comparison, this is quite good.
So they was wearing the same clothes at Isle of Wight '69, Woodstock '69 and Isle of Wight '70? I thought that AC/DC was the only band that always wore the same clothes.
i don't believe this is isle of wight '69. I think this is either woodstock or isle of wight '70. I mean, where the who always wearing the same clothes on stage? And besides, i never heard of isle of wight '69. Enlighten me.
They usually wore the same stage clothes at that point because they were focused on kicking ass musically at gig after gig, versus getting all dolled up. Pre-"Tommy," they lived or died through their sets, endless gigging and touring, before "Tommy" made them rich.
Seanoco7: This IS the Isle of Wight...from 1969. The film you're referring to is from a year later, in 1970. This first Isle of Wight appearance took place two weeks after Woodstock, took place during daylight, and is generally considered to be a far superior performance than their 1970 Isle of Wight appearance. (As a Who fan for 37 years, I have to say their performance at the 1970 Wight performance is rather sloppy and subpar by the the Who's own standards.
i don't think this is the isle of wight. a) they played at 2:00 a.m. and b) the outfits are different from the film. it could be woodstock but again the who played at night and this appears to have some daylight or else the camera's would never have picked this up. outfits look like woodstock. any feedback on this ?? ( and i don't mean guitar feedback!!)

I don't know what people are bitching about..This is a superior quality film for a BOOTLEG.
If this was professional,or make that OFFICIAL..Then people would have a very strong case to complain.
Cheers.

better than how they filmed some deep purple concerts you mainly see some girls boobs bouncing while blackmoores playing the hell out of the guitar

If only the camera would've panned over to John at about 4:20
This would've gotten *****
I gotta give it only **** for ignoring Entwistle when he was only 20 feet away.

It's probably all sh*t footage. The camera guys likely were wasted considering where they were.

The passion was really here at this point, I believe more passionate than the preceding year because "Tommy" was fresher in 1969.
