She's gun shy and confusing the dog by holding the food in front of him for a long time with NO communication towards him at all (though he did seem pretty calm about it, lol). People who become afraid of being bit, are more likely TO get bit.

It's about what you let the dog do, not what the dog wants to do. Training method helps greatly.

true. I'm not concerned about training and tricks though. We live out in the country(ish) where there's wolfs, bears, and coyotes. So the only real training we want for him is what comes naturally to a big breed male dog like a rottweiler. Protection of his territory, lol!

Ya, we live in the city, our yard is not large enough for a big dog, it wouldn't be fair to the dog. My dog would be a small snack fora bear, lol He does love to chase rabbits though.

He is smart though, learns things fast and lets me know if anyone is anywhere near our house. He's more of an "alarm" dog than a "guard dog".

lol, we have one of those too. A female jack russell. And of all 3 dogs we have, including the almost 1 1/2 year rottweiler, she's the alpha! She does the same thing as yours does, barks like crazy whenever someone or something is in the yard. It's kind of a good thing/a real annoying thing, lol. The 3rd dog is just a mixed breed female. We nick named her twig. cause she's about as smart as one. I should try and get a vid up on them..

Ya, it's a double edge sword, it is good that he tells you if someone is on the property, but it is sometimes a pain in the ass. If he doesn't settle down I just tell my dog to go to bed and he goes to bed and is quiet.
