The conservative mindset is needed, we need people to question progress and the morality of what we are doing, but they don't need to based on religion or on ungrounded belief systems. Conservatives argue points that contradict themselves. The idea in the land of the free we can't build a mosque because terrorists will win, even though they lack freedom in a lot of ways, and to argue it from the same exact degree of religious intolerance they use against us is mind blowing.

You believe because a mosque is built you are loosing something, or two gay people are able to get equal rights somehow your rights mean less. The President has passed or is working on like 3/4 of all his campaign promises, On top of balancing wars, a financial meltdown, the biggest ecological disaster in US history. He has been effective, you just don't hear about it. As far as a divided country, there has been no secession of states. People disagree on certain things, thats life, not the end.

I agree with Buchanan. Just recently we've seen an example of the fact. Colin Powell, a conservative, supporting Obama just because he's black. If we've learned anything for the past 100 years blacks generally can't be trusted. Especially in politics. It sucks, but it's a fact. An exception is Allen Keys, who is a devout conservative. But it's a sad fact of live that we must sacrifice the one. Uygur needs to face reality some day.

@IrminC A population doesn't fluctuate to the point of near extinction. On top of that, most tribes were peaceful. They were forced off their land and sent to small reservations in Kansas and later Oklahoma. Tribes that were used to mild weather and relied on fishing now faced harsh winters in areas with little water. Even tribes used to those conditions were mostly nomadic, but were on small reservations where they couldn't follow the dwindling buffalo that they relied on so heavily.

You're referring to the Cherokee tribe - an aggressive tribe which practiced slavery - that was forcefully moved due to their involvement in the Civil War against the Union. It was no more harsh treatment than the black or white southerners experienced (look up Union death camps). And the US set up most reservations to PREVENT Natives from exterminating EACH OTHER.

@nukepwetty Assertion is not argument. You made the claim that the White Race is responsible for smallpox - something so stupid it doesn't require let alone warrant refuting. You claim that tribes - with no concept of land ownership - were somehow cheated out of a land they didn't claim to own, nor know how to utilize. Again, silly. It's merely an exercise in collective guilt that is not based in reality. The only genocide in the Americas was by natives against natives.

@IrminC I never said we were responsible for smallpox, we just spread it. They knew full well how to utilize land. If the land was too dry to farm, they were nomadic and hunted the buffalo. Otherwise they had no problem with farming. Even if they didn't claim to own land doesn't mean they weren't heavily reliant on the land they lived on.

@nukepwetty We did not consciously spread smallpox. It spread itself and it used all homo sapiens as a means. You have no point other than some desperate plea of collective guilt. White Europeans not only had advanced agricultural method that proved superior to facilitating a large population but had conservation to guarantee renewed wildlife. THAT is utilizing the land, not hunter-gatherer circa 6000BC. Hence one prospered, the other didn't. That's nature, that's objectivity.

@IrminC Yeah that was wonderful wildlife conservation. Hunt down the buffalo only for their hides leaving the corpses to rot. That kind of hunting nearly drove the buffalo to extinction. The indians had lived like that successfuly for thousands of years. It never mattered who had better methods, they both got the job done.

@nukepwetty Name one race on the planet that went so far to protect the environment as European-Americans. The Natives hunted SEVERAL species to extinction, check out post-Ice Age America. I love how on one hand you praise America's Constitution as being the sole beacon of Secular Sanity in the world against the evil force of religion, yet condemn the brutal means necessary to make that document viable and secure in the first place. @jjrants Pat is a proud white man who risks a lot to keep the US from becoming a third world country. I'm surprised you call him racist for him wanting the West to want to be White as its founders intended. Since it was the White race alone which made possible Atheistic and Anti-theist movements. Go to Africa, South America, Mid-East, or most of Asia and experience their religious hospitality. You may find the unprecedented tolerance of Christianity refreshing. :-)

The problem that I have with Christianity is with how people interpret it as well as it's horrific nature. 50 years from now, it will be viewed as the cult that it is.
ps. i've traveled to 32 countries and exposed to MANY cultures. Most feel as I do about Christianity.

@IrminC Christianity is the number 1 religion in the world with about 1 billion followers. Why? Because Christians were overwhelmingly intollerant basically forced everyone to convert. The only reason you can have whatever religion you want is because of the first amendment and the relative civility of today.

@rocket10racer have you read a quran to actually be able to say that is true? In many ways any fighting between Islam, Christianity, and even Judaism is stupid. All of them believe in the same god (Allah is arabic for god) and believe in many of the same prophets.

I read today about a SC case in the eighties overturning a Texas law barring undocumented children from public schools. Justice Brennan's notes record that Rehnquist used the term "wetback" in discussing the case. Thurgood Marshall requested that Rehnquist apologize, and Rehnquist refused.
