  • Thank you for sharing... I needed the refresher course ... music is nice too ;D

  • Is there a good tip on how to remember where you left off if you put it down and come back to it?

  • I got this for my bday. Instructions confused me, this helped so much, its so easy!!!

  • About how much shorter should we expect the resulting project to be than the length of cord used? In other words: If the lengths of cord I use are 2 feet each, about how long will the project be?

  • @pernanjp About 2 1/2 to one; so eight 2 foot cords will result in about a 10 inch braid

  • @craftycrafter Thank you for the explanation, that's just what I wanted to know, it should help. :)

  • Pretty neat...! Now I have to check weather I ordered this kit I saw or not...!! Thank..appreciated it.

  • was she using variegated ribbon and black yarn (or something like it)?

  • @K8e92 Variegated ribbon and black satin rattail

  • @craftycrafter thanks.

  • I have made a bracelet length but don't know what to do about findings to put on the ends to join it up, all the jewellery findings I've found seen to be to small to fit and I don't know how to fit them anyway... please help, I want to take this off my loom and try something else but cant' until I get this sorted out!!!

  • i never remember how many slits to make on the edge ... how many do i need to make ?

  • im 14 and i love japanese braiding in my spair time ! but i never remember how many slits to make ... how many do you need ?

  • To make beautiful shoe laces from knitting yarn, using kumihimo (in the notation of book Creative Kumihimo):

Start with 8D for about half an inch, followed by 8G for as long a lace as you need, followed by another half inch of 8D. To make a pair of laces, do not stop -- after the final 8D of the first lace, start all over again, and make the second lace. Sew the ends to prevent fraying, and cut with scissors.

  • Are you using a Kumiloom (or other foam disk) and not something else? What you describe shouldn't be a problem. Perhaps your cord is too skinny (like sewing thread) and isn't being held by the notches.

  • can anyone give me tips of what i can do to make my braid tighter? cos every few rounds im forced to pull all the strings so that the braid comes together but it gets frustrating after a while

  • Love this loom! bought one after watching this video and it is so easy to make braided neck cords with it for my jewelry. have recommend this to my friends also.

  • I love your video!!! I was able to make a lovely braid after just one viewing and it also instructed a 9 year old relative who I purchased a loom, bobbins and a variety of yarns and cord as a holiday gift this week. She too loves it. Do you also have an instructional video about how to add beads to braids?

Having learned the basics from your video I am now able to follow a book for more complicated braids. Thanks You.

  • where can i find one of those? i lovee making bracelets, but ever since people have been begging and asking to make one for them i've stopped, now that i miss it so much i want to learn even more techniques! :)

can anyone tell me where i can find one? :D

  • Fabulous tutorial--I'm psyched, AND I bought a loom at a craft show this weekend!

  • You can find the disk, bobbins, yarn, & cording in craft stores. The disk only comes with instructions. Don't use cording or yarn with beads in it, it has to be done separately. You can use yarn, rattail cord, DMC floss, but you may want to double up on the DMC floss. You should use cording to start since it's thicker. You can find cording in the beading section of your craft store or look where they keep the ribbon, sometimes they have rattail cord there. Just ask the associate where it is.

  • Hello my disc doesn't have the basic instruction, for that matter I don't even know what kind of fabric should be used. Does ordinary knitting fabric work or should it be different?

  • I got this loom for my birthday, and I'm having a blast with it. My 6 yr old son is fascinated and wants his own.

  • I saw someone using little cardboard squares to keep the yarn or ribbon on, they are just like the ones you buy to keep embroidery thread on.

  • Love the bobbins, where could I get some of those please. Fab tute - so easy to understand

  • guys you can just print out an enlarged pic of a kumihimo wheel, cut it out, put it on top of cardboard, cut that, make all the measurements for each number the same, and there u go a free wheel.

i made some pretty cool bracelets doing it,

  • thnx! now i can make cords for my jewelry. very useful in this crisis age.

  • I made my own loom, my husband makes latex weapons so I used some 3/4 inch foam to do it but I've heard of people using several sheets of the fun foam stuck together.

  • where can you get a kumi loom?

  • Amazon or Primitive Originals websites

  • Nice video. Very interesting, and I LOVE the music... what is it?

  • This is a TERRIFIC tutorial for basic 8 strand kumihimo....I can't WAIT to make some with the ribbons like you have! Just bought my disk over the weekend, but didn't get any instructions on the back of mine ;o( Perhaps I missed it...but did you show anything having to do with placing a weight on your braid? I find that absolutely essential. Thanks for this terrific tutorial!

  • Thanks! The kumiloom brand disk is the only one I know with instructions on the back

  • This is the first time I could actually understand this wonderful technique. I have read many descriptions and how-to, but this was the first time I actually saw it. Thank you! Great lesson.

  • Thank you so much. Great lesson!

  • Thanks.. any idea on how to do this with 9 strands of thread? (nine diffrent colors)

  • thank you so much!

  • I'm wondering, how long would it take a beginner to braid 60 inches with kumihimo, and can someone give me a braiding ratio?

  • You need about 3 feet of cord for 1 foot of finished braid. A leisurely but steady pace produces maybe 4 or so inches an hour

  • ouch, i heard that it took a while but i didn't know it was that slow. i think it might take me a day just to get one side a sling ( i like making slings, and a new braid is always welcome)

  • This looks great....EZ to do. I ordered the kit to get started! Does anyone know where there is a video for the square disc?

  • Thank you so much! Very easy to follow instructions.

  • I have 15 (5' each) strands on 16 slots and the pattern is fifth string into slot I'm using a really thick wool and the rope it makes is bigger than my thumb. Also I don't rotate the wheel or use weights.

  • Thanks =))

  • i learned somthin like this in elementary. using a cardboard circle about 6" and 2 different colors of strings 8 strings for each color and the cardboard circle has 32 slits in them about half an inch apart.

i forgot the name of this braiding, and how to do it? can any one give me the name i could look up instructions

  • So why give it the thumbs down?I have a disc and this has shown me heaps,i am just glad people bother to instruct when they get knocked for it.

  • easy to follow, thanks

  • in answer to horsebackrider94, yes you NEED A LOOM THE STRINGS GET SO TANGLED UP IF YOU DON'T USE ONE

  • Thank you so very much, I am now making loads of cords with your help!

  • This vid tut is very concise. After viewing this ,I feel more comfy with kumihimo braiding.

  • do you need a loom to do this or would it be really complicated?

  • oh thank you very much it was easy to understand <3

u saved my life!!! and my money x3 coz the books where they show how to make ar VERY VERY expensive D:

    thanks <3

  • This was a great demo!!

  • that was simple... thanks.

  • A really well thought out, beautiful instructional - thanks!

  • Thank you! this was very helpful. I especially like the mix of ribbon and yarn you used. Susan

  • Find it by searching for "Kumiloom" on google, eBay, Amazon, or Etsy

  • Where can I Buy the Disk ? Does it come with the Accessories ?

  • A great tutorial. Makes braiding look so easy. Very good tool for making friendship bands. Thank you.

  • Great video! Just wondering where I could get a set of those bobbins/spools?? Thanks!

  • This video is, by far, the best one on YouTube for learning how to braid on these discs. Thanks, craftycrafter. Good job!

  • Thank you for your comment!
