  • when i bought my tarantula i asked for a female cause i knew the males only purpose was breeding(the same as us humans lol) obviously the guy knew nothing as mine is defo a male . oh well, i will care for him best i can until he passes. one more Q. is the care for mexican red knees simalar to chiles?

  • Yeah pretty much the same, their habitats are both arid scrubland desert eg dry but not sahara dry - some scrub plants survive and the ground is just moist enough for them to burrow. Humidity for both is fine at around 65%, temp in captivity is good at around 70/75 farenheit. Little variation is fine, humidity no lower than say 55, temp should really stay above 70.

  • well done man you rescued her from certain death lol.

quick question how do you tell the difference between male and female Chile rose

I thought mine was a female but now im not sure as he/she hase the little hooks on her front legs which i think are present on males and used during mating im very confused any help would be apreciated

  • If it has definite looking hooks on the underside of the tibia on the the front legs, then it is a mature male, and so unfortunately doesn't have long left, they are programmed to live, breed then pass as they have served their purpose. Another way to tell is look at the inside of the abdomen of a fresh molted skin, if there is a leaf shaped flap between the 2 book lungs closest to the prosoma then it's female. Males generally appear leggier with smaller abdomens.
