Can't believe it's been 21 years since I first heard this - Summer/Fall of the year I graduated from High School. I remember hearing this on KNDD FM in Seattle, when they actually played a lot of cool stuff before they went astray w/ their Soundgarden/Nirvana/Pearl Jam worship phase. I went out and bought the singles for "The Only One I Know" along with "There's No Other Way" by Blur on cassette tapes as soon as I could. I've loved the Charlies, the Madchester scene and Britpop ever since.
i love this takes me right back to being 15 and loving it sitting in somebodys empty getting wrect those were the days, and scotland wiz agood place to be then and blue lable thunderbird wiz the buissness!!! gon are they days!!
The Drummer is Jon Brookes not Evan Dando but they do look very similar. Must be annoying been a drummer in a band and looking so much like a drummer from another famous band.
The hair!! I was 11 when this came out what a song these guys and brit pop in general were the sound track to my youth. The 90s in England was the best place to be a teenager i would give anything to go back it's shite been a32 year old with a hubby and kids, kicks are few and far between these days.
@mrmojorisin291278 Well said. Life was so much simpler back in the day when all that mattered was getting someone to jump in to the off licence for your booze on a Friday night after school, make sure your Ellesse trainers were clean and your bowl cut was sitting perfect for the girls to play with at the house party your mate was having cos his parents had the best social life known to man. We all had 1 mate like that right?? Great times. P.S Scotland in the 90's was just as rockin ha ha!!
@leecolvin79 I know, i normally cringe when i see that 95% of teens comment but i feel sorry for them really. The Uk in the 90s was amazing and the music was the best. I had ellessie's to and hung round the offy for my blue thunderbird. Yep those were the days. =0)
@mrmojorisin291278 Shut the fuck up up, dont tell me to fuck off, did I know you get knocked about or lied to? No i fucking didnt. Dont say such a general thing like having kids and a hubby is shit, people are bound to think youre a cunt.
@Rewnskeyp Look im not getting into the wheres or whys, but my original comment is simply a comparison of how fucking great my life was in the90s and how been a 32 year old drudge just dont really compare. And my comment about my babies wasn't meant to be a slurr at them as i love them more than life itself. So really i was only saying how great it was to be young compaired to been older and tied down, i shouldn't have to explane myself to you but i feel i had to for some weird reason.
@mrmojorisin291278 Man there was some great music coming out of England in the 90s... but did you hear what the USA was cranking out at the same time? Musically... I think USA edged out England in the 90s.
May be solo but our bands are better, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who,Led Zeppelin,Queen,ELO, Deep Purple, Like them or not these bands are what other bands aspire to be like, they have cult status worldwide. But remember what I said about some music doesn't travel.
@alphabet45839 No no, not even close. And you just named a bunch of lame and boring 60s hippies and 70s crud that tried to copy our ORINAL bands. The beach boys, elvis, sinatra, the doors, the mamas and the papas, the animals, the ventures(, black flag, TSOL, Devo, Ministry, etc etc.
@TheNewMusicNetwork the ventures and dick dale being the first bands to play fast and do guitar solos. I could name a ton of other surf bands that paved the way for the RAMONES as well. We also created the bubblegum sounds, you brits just copied.
I said bands my friend and you have out solo artists in there, The Beach boys where too American to do well worldwide and they also ran the same time as the Beatles, The Doors never had the same worlwide impact as the Brit bands fact, regarless of our music tastes, in short Brit bands rocked the world big time.
@alphabet45839 hahaha You're being ridiculous now. The Doors, Elvis(elvis had a band) and the beach boys are known the world over and in fact have both toured and played large arenas/stadiums and festivals back when they were at their height.
I wanted to add a few more bands as you did the same thing, Bill haley and the comets, jimmy hendrix(had a band as well), aerosmith, etc etc. I could name a lot more american bands. MC5, motown, funk, etc etc.
@mrmojorisin291278 hehehe im 32 too, but luckily for me despite my bestest efforts women where NEVER ionterested in me, now im still single and i get a lot of kicks hahahah im just glad i got sooooo many rejections ! never thought id say that ! congrats on having a great youth you where very lucky !
@mrmojorisin291278 lol - I hear ya...Married with 3 little dudes = not much time for myself...Lived in Birmingham, England for several months back in 1992; music scene across the pond back then was unbelieveable...When I got back home to the States it was amazing how the music, and style/clothing followed a few months later...England really is a trend setter.
this was still considered indie music back then. it was still part of the underground. they had x factor sounding garbage all the time on totp back then @chestermod
The old days, remember sitting in a small gaff up town under-age with the lads, sitting around a pool table in the back room, Playing this on the juke box, along with Happy Mondays - 24 hour party people.. ''Those were the days my friends''
I know people go on about the keyboard sound but what makes this song for me is the descending bass notes after the line 'everyone has been burned before', just one of those little things that makes all the difference...
