  • When the Forester becomes a religion, this video should be in its church.

  • When I owned my impreza rs I always used chevron gas or mobil, shell. I noticed with 76 gas the engine would act weird. I don't know how to describe it bcoz it's been awhile since put 76 gas. But it happens as soon as u start the car and try to drive. Try chevron. I never had problems with their gas. Sometimes expensive tho

  • Beautiful island. I wish I had your job!

  • You know, I have a 2003 Jeep liberty with over 170,000 orig. miles on it - works great and have always been a Jeep man. However, after having looked at the reliability of the Libertys for the past few years, I have got to say that I will be seriously considering Subaru for my next vehicle. Not only are Subarus more reliable, but they get better fuel economy and have a 4wd system that is just as good as the new Libertys.....if not better.

  • @wonderfulman2456 and they should. the Subarus all have a standard race bred 4wd from their glory days of rally.

  • Lame, not only a Forester can drive trough this roads, a RWD vehicle can do this too, if Foresters claim to be as good as Jeeps in off-road go for the Moab hill, i'm not saying Foresters are bad, its just Subaru shouldn't mess with something they can't do as good as a Jeep or equivalent if theres something.

Leave off-road to Jeeps, Subarus are made for some dirt on the road and rally like roads.

  • Subaru has horrible ergonomics. My 2010 foresters brake pedal is so far left that it feels like a game of twister everytime I brake. It makes it feel so unsafe and its tiring to drive because of that. The engine has pinged since I bought it brand new. Its the worst vehicle I have ever driven. Subaru likes to speak of its 5 star crash ratings what they dont mention is that youll need them since braking is so much trouble your likely to crash. What an upsetting vehicle subaru is, peice of junk!

  • @cheemooo Didn't you test drive it before you bought one??? I have one and find the brake pedal in no different position then any other vehicle. Pinging is usually caused by either bad gas or octane that is to low. Do you have a turbo model?

  • HI, yes i test drove it but on test drives you are distracted by the sales person talking and also since its new to you you sometimes cant dicern if its the car that doesnt fit you or if you just dont have it adjusted right. When I had just bought it I reasoned I needed to try differnt adjustments and give it a chance to see if I could get it to be comfortable. Well I did all that and it never became comfortable. The brake pedal is especially far.

  • I have driven other vehicles and I am sure I am not exaderating.Yes some vehicles do have brake pedals that far and that sucks but I would expect more from a premium Japanese car make.Drive a Honda Element or a Kia Soul and you will notice how the brake pedal falls just in the right place no strain at all. In the Subaru I feel my hips tensing since I have to reach so far. I am not weak or frail but still why move more than you have to its uncomfortable. Also the seatbelt is too high in the waist

  • I dont have a Turbo and I use what the manufacturer says you should use, regular fuel. I have tried many differnt fuel companies. No matter what I use it pings and I have even tried higher octane fuel. Despite that one should not have to go to a higer octane than recommended from the factory. The engine pings in the 1500 rpm range it sounds kind of like bee bee's falling in to a aluminum can. All these problems make me want to sell the vehicle. Subaru has shown to be no good.

  • @cheemooo You'll be one of a very few people to say Subaru is no good...next time when you test drive a vehicle you need to pay more attention to the car then the people in it. Again, I've driven a few 09+ Foresters and have not noticed anything like you have. The Foresters are also selling HUGE amounts, never heard anyone complain about anything other then a a/c compressor that went and was replaced under warranty. You pinging sounds very odd. Where do you live? Have you taken it back in?

  • I thought Suabru was good too till I owned one then my idea of them changed to not very good. Anyhow I have taken it in they dont know what it is they say use top tier fuel but its just a line they are giving me all they relaly mean is they dont know what it is. As I said before I have used all kinds of fuel makes no difference. I have heard other new Subaurs pinging so its not just mine its a design flaw.

  • I am going to sell it it has 21 k miles its all stock non smoker clean tile payed off and has a tow package, cold weather package and factory upgraded sound system. If you know anyone that wants to buy one used shoot me a email I am going to sell it for a few thousand less than I payed for it.

  • @cheemooo Where do you live?

  • I am in the Desert Southwest. Temperatures are usually relatively warm and the climate is dry.

  • @cheemooo It's either the timing is off or the fuel in your area is crap. I'd have no problem buying it off of you but doesn't sound like you are anywhere near me. I've owned 3 Subaru's now and between Subaru and Toyota, it's all I'll ever own again. My 82 year old grandfather is still driving a 1991 Subaru Legacy which has never broken down or seen a tow truck in it's life.

  • this makes me want a subaru more

  • Subaru why did you bail out of rally racing?!??! No it's not profitable but subaru is KNOWN for rally racing. It's WHY I PURCHASED A FORESTER!

Keep Rally and keep Travis... ignore the reports, it's actually working!

  • I love my subaru Forester. It's my first, and not my last. I love it. love it love.

  • its the fucking Catalonia wine mixer!!!!!

  • @hdhproductions7

    Nice one! HA!

  • symetrical AWD is one of the best reliable drivetrains today. Subaru vehicles are great.

  • subaru its far away to be the best, its just for dirty road not real offroad... this "jeep hill" this is only a dirty road that i climb that in RWD with my powertrax lol

the time to transfer power is very too slow with subaru. and use too many plastic and aluminium so it's too weak to make real off road like i jeep can do

  • you guys put jeep in quotations to make it a mocking reference to the hill called a "jeep hill." thats not a jeep hill, thats a fucking dirt trail going up the side of a foothill

  • LR 2 much better!!!!

  • you could add some background music you know...

  • I have an 09 Forester XT. Thanks for this video. I plan on doing some heavy off-roading this summer and need to get an idea of the capabilities.

  • Xt is fast. hits 120 without a blink. The technology of the accessories are disappointing. The climate control only allows 65° as a minimum temperature- silly for a car aimed at active persons. Stupid actually.

Other than that, good MPG for the power and size. The AWD system is top of the line, period. Much more interior room, super! Very good off road, 1st gear is low enough. 2nd gear is well spaced, but gets you 80mph at redline!!!

Su could add $1000 of eng, and add $5000 value.

  • @xyaqua

Just wondering about the climate control. Why would you need it colder than 65? I have never seen any other car with a setting lower then that. Or is the problem that it takes a long time to cool to that temp in hot weather, if so it may mean the HVAC system is a little underpowered for the size of car.

  • Im warm blooded. i exercise and am active. Plus, i do not always take my coat off every time i get in the car. On top of that, the "65" is really about "70" (actually measured).

The HVAC is not underpowered, the problem did not show up until the cooler weather set it. the car tries to keep the cabin too warm, it has a weak air feedback circuit drawing from a poor location.

I'm on the far end of the spectrum, but a 60 degree setting is appropriate. my wife's g35 goes to down to 60. ciao!

  • Ahh.. I understand. I have had a few cars that would do that. I thought you meant 65 was not cold enough in the summer time...

  • It's funny, i can stand 70 just fine in the summer, if i have air on my. Of course the air blowing from the vents is about 50°F, or less, the typical interior averages 70°F.

I put a 10k ohm resistor in parallel with the existing negative co-efficient thermistor (about 2800 ohms at 67°F)

Could have gone more- 9k or 8k ohm (less is more when in parallel), but the curve is not linear- must be cautious.

  • There are some benefits to the old fashioned cold/hot slider design. At least on cold you can get nearly the full cold of the outside air, and warm it to whatever you want.

  • hahahh thanks hskdondada :) i totally agree with you...subys are nice, yet not quite a jeep in an off road situation :)

  • ..yeah well this car would shit all over a jeep 'on road' in terms of handling...that's why they're so popular; they're designed for nothing more than dirt tracks, while providing the handling/ road holding of a car

  • cant deny you there....that's an absolute fact. you also cant deny that the off-road limitations of the new forester are far more definitive than the jeep.

  • they are more for trail riding and rally racing then serious off roading lol

  • thats not much of a "jeep hill/trail" maybe like a some kind of soccer mom SUV trail. and heres my opinion and im sure some kid is going to reply and say that jeeps suck and i dont know what im saying. but i own a jeep cherokee and i wheel it. I've also driven a subaru impreza, which was very very fun! but i highly doubt an 09 forester could be better then an 09 wrangler.. but to each is there own.

  • im a subaru fan and have owned 4 now, with the the 07 forester being my current car....but i totally agree the is no way any subaru will eat up a trail like that the way a wrangler would... that's where a wrangler thrives....but its pretty dope that a car that gets like 25mpg and you girlfriend doesn't need a ladder to get into can go up a trail like that.....(in between subies i had a jeep cherokee...weird)

  • Comment removed

  • were those on stock tires?

  • yes.

  • If you ever need extra drivers, I take my suby off road all the time. I'd love to help out. Subaru for the win! - Tampa Sports Car Examiner

  • yes its very good car

  • Well, at least they admit in the video that they are not trying to compete with Jeep. I know the old school 2wd Subes were capable of insane MPG (40+ hwy), not sure if they still can do that anymore. The insane safety requirements and moron proof controls make it tough to keep a car lightweight.

  • its because they had a smaller engine, the car was lighter and the demand for power wasnt as great as it is now.

  • Got one it is a great vehicle

  • I have that car and that looks like my driveway! I got stuck in 6 inches of snow with four chains on this winter going uphill in unplowed territory on dirt road. But I'm sure anything would have gotten stuck...lol

  • is it a turbo ?

i have no probs sofar, best car i ever had

  • nothing compared to the XJ cherokee, it still pwns. maybe it was me or the camera, but that hill didnt look very challenging...just a walk in the park. boring video overall, seems that the narrator doesnt exactly know what the word JEEP means. Jeep is a brand NOT a vehicle. Jeep like vehicles include blazers, explorers and hummers. they truly believe that this suby is an amazing piece of machinery...check out some Cherokees or Wranglers and youll see some amazing shit.

  • lol the hill was steep the camera was being held at the same angle as the car so obviosously it doesn't look steep. The cherokee cannot even hope to compete with subaru's reliability. Forester has a better awd system, and wayyyyy better handling. Jeep's aren't very dependable...everyone I know who has a jeep says the break down often

  • lol i've heard that special olympics joke before on youtube. Japanese plastic what? Ex-fukin scuze me, lolz! Most american cars break down every 5 years subaru's last forever! I know poeple who have had subaru's for over 10 years and not one breakdown! I own a toyota corolla 1992 never had one breakdown. Only had to replace the batterry but that's normal. You, my friend, are retarded.

  • lol. Chill the fuk out. Okay I'm happy for you congrats on your jeep...but alot of them break down. Japanese cars are not shit, especially subaru's which are made with the highest quality. Do some research on the 2009 subaru forester. Drive it, it is the most solid well built veichle ever made i swear it's awesome. Chevy is taking it up a notch they're great i don't trust jeep though...try the subaru forester though seriously give it a chance and stop being a douchebag

  • jeeps suck... just empty every pocket

  • Subaru>Jeep

  • @JewTimes2

The Quadra Drive II without traction control is far away better than AWD with traction control from suby

and with the traction control maybe in 2050 suby can dream to make a system with half capability of the quadra drive II

  • @sampwell819 Headless child talking about a system that is unrivaled 'symetrical from Subaru is the best, you first documenting

  • Boring video I love my 09 Forester no justice here

  • i love this car...I just bought myself a MY09 Forester Manual and I'm just in heaven with it...I love it...plus its got a deadly stereo system....unlike those poxy mitsubishi's.....I hate them...my mitsubishi only lasted about five years then it fucked up so...never buying a mitsubishi ever again....watching this video makes me wanna get in my car and cruise around townsville or take it bush...

  • why is no one mentioning suzuki grand vitara as a competitor?!

it's at least as good as this car and of course better than the toyota rav 4 at offroading..

  • Thats not a hill climb !

    This is a Hill Climb

  • lol XD

  • What size engine is this engine? Manual?

  • 2.5 turbo. 4 speed electronic controlled auto.

  • I have a 1998 Legacy and a 2005 forester and I went to places with the legacy where I got stucked with forester. Next time I'm buying a Outback

  • Automatics fail. Period.

Maybe, if you aren't going to drive a car to it's full capacity, an automatic might be okay.

But anyone who really knows how to drive, or really knows how to enjoy a car, drives a manual.

  • sure that too..but the other advantage of the manual gearbox is that you have that amazing four wheel drive with the diffs locked!the magic lever!on all automatic models this option is unavailable.you cant even imagine where i ve been through with my 2007 forester..its just unstoppable through mud with regular tires, through snow and steep hills..unstoppable..nut even thinking of spinning the wheels with the diffs locked.on ice you can control the whole car like a charm!awesome.just awesome..

  • Ain't nothing like a Sub.

I run a '98 Forester myself, and it's the thing I miss most about home...being at school n'at.

  • my forester 98 dont fail, and is automatic

  • Narrator is a bore. How about letting us hear the engine too! And the fact that an Impreza made is up those slopes shows that the trail was easy, sure the Impreza has Subaru's awesome AWD system too, but doesn't have the ground clearance of a Forester. Put the Foz down a proper, gnarly off road track then we'll talk.

  • "I prefer the 4 speed automatic, it's such a smooth rig and can harvest the torque and benefits of the engine".

Sorry good chap, but your credibility dropped off after that comment. These automatics kill what little performance there is.

  • Subarus are the best...

  • 2009 is fucking ugly

  • Your mom goes to college

  • the man just said a crv faild at that hill the civic would be toast

  • I understand that the CR-V is sadly underpowered.

  • Haha that off-roading and the hill climb was a joke. If your SUV can't do that you may as well be driving a car. The lack a 4-low gearing hurts for off road.

  • the funny thing about that subaru is....look at it...its not really a big bad "suv" more like a station wagon, and it did incredibly well for the tires it had.

  • it's not a station wagon. It's alot more suv than the rav4 or the honda crv neither of those are as good offroad as this

  • Noise reduction? what for? I love hearing the Boxer! Nothing beats that boxer growl, Subarus are awesome!

  • Facts: purchased 2000 model...took me on all the rugged roads around with no problem except for a 4 inch nail and the Caribbean sun deteriorated the centre console. Waited 2 years for the opp to buy the 2009 model, cause i won't settle for anything less. Got it 3 days ago, love the silence, that my ipod plays undisturbed, that there is leg room and that I can off road with it.important with the roads that we have here in Antigua, Caribbean. Sad to see 2000 model go, looking forward to the 2009.

  • I want one soooooooooo badly here in the philippines because of the worst roads here!!!!

  • My Outback Sport can do that too! lol

  • "Boxter" flat four??

  • Boxer, a nickname for the flat 4 engine. The pistons look like boxers.

  • No. I'm pretty sure I am correct in this matter. The "boxer" is just a nickname for the flat four, where the pistons resemble boxers' fists going back and forth (you know, the fighters with gloves on their hands).

  • @Plisken1986 that is actually true. they call it a boxer as it seems there are arms punching each other

  • @Plisken1986 Flat 4 with pistons at the angle 90 deg. side ways, flat 4 is 90 deg going up and down.

  • up and down pistons is an inline

  • Plisken1986 is correct. And you're crass.

  • u cant say is a propaganda, it is pretty damn good car... yea SUVs can.. make tat hill.. but yo.. i have a forester (2000).. and it didnt break down YET for the pass 8 yrs

  • I can say it is propaganda. Since it was a Subaru event, do you honestly think they would prepare a challege where there is a possibility that the Subaru would fail? No.

    Propaganda.

  • There is no such challenge, so there's no way to make one, thus, not propaganda.

Have you ever driven a Subaru?

I doubt you have, you sound like an idiot.

  • I sound like an idiot? Hmmm.

I work closely with multiple marketing firms. This is, indeed, marketing propoganda. Do you honestly think Subaru would promote something where their vehicle fails the test? Get real.

I have owned Subarus in the past with the most recent being a 2002 Forester.

  • Not many other SUVs can do off road at all. Most Japanese and American SUVs are soft roaders.

  • If you honestly think the Forester is not a softroader you are kidding yourself.

    RAV4, CR-V, Forester, Escape/Tribute/Mariner, Equinox/Torrent, Vue etc. = Soft roaders...

  • Bear in mind the Forester is based off the Impreza, so in reality the Forester is an even more off road capable Impreza (more ground clearance).

I'm not saying it can do things that a Hummer (H1, that is) or a Jeep can. I'm just saying it has substantially more off road ability than your average day Rav4 or CR-V.

And please, the Equinox can't even be mentioned in the same sentence as the Forester. They're not even in the same ball park.

  • I don't see any CRV challenges or Highlander or whatever other car challenges on here that beat this!

  • Oh, you meant that one, yeh you can see the scoop.

  • must've been the turbo model. i wonder if the 2.5 can climb that hill.

  • It was the 2.5 atmo model, the turbo has a scoop.

  • Does anyone know if this Subaru comes with a low transfer case?

  • the manual version 2.0 X has the low transfer case while the automatic has it automatically

  • Whats the gas mileage...prius or subaru?

  • get a forester

  • I have a 2003 Forester X and it really goes anywhere, very good ground clearence, yet it handles like a VW Golf. Great car!

  • please help. New Nissan X-Trail or New Subaru Forester

  • Forester is the best all rounder, so take the forester

  • Agree with strawhead16. It's just an unpaved street... Any 4x2 SUV would do it. Even a normal car might, with the proper exp; as well as a Jeep might not do it if you r a rook.

Check somethin: The Forester goes with enough speed so it just needs to keep on steppin the gas to "climb".

  • Nice climbing....!!!....I want a 2009 Forester!!

  • My perants owned a 2005 Cr-v and it advertises as a 4wd but really thats only so honda can brag about it we decided to take the cr-v off road once and it got stuck almost straight away! the forester is more serious about the 4wd aspect and actually give it more thought the new forester looks great too! :)

  • I'll like to bring my Scooby there with 40 of my Subaru friends too. Beautiful view. I think the car is hot I might get one afther I pay off my Impreza next year.

  • Какрй это нахрен Офф Роад.У меня за окном дорога хуже. Для Subaru это ничто. Я бы там на своей одиннадцатой проехал не напрягаясь.

  • Да ладно не нервничай,для них это считается именно Офф Роад!!! )))

  • What the hell did Subaru do to the Forester?? It's soooo generic looking now! Can you say OUTLANDER??? Sheez!

  • That road is just shy of being paved!! there is no way 4wd would even be needed.

  • he just said that the crv would not cut it. that means it did not make it up the hill and it is all wheel drive. so it is pretty good. and that other man comes from a jeep history, and he said this is a jeep trail, im actually impressed. listen to what is said b4 posting negative comments.

  • nice!!!!!!!!!!
