I taped from the bottom around to the front of the sim and it worked but if I lock my phone,5 mins later it said no sim again. : ( it is good for a temporary fix though

@alianddrew2 you can always take it to apple, it just depends if you are still covered under warranty whether its free or for a charge.

if they are going to charge you an exhorbinent amount... you can try and sell it as for parts/repair on ebay, and use the money from that to buy another phone. And if you are under a phone contract thats ready to renew you can see the upgrade options.. you might be able to ultimately end up replacing the whole thing for free..

Hey ppl my iphone 3g just stopped receiving and making calls so i tried simple rebooting together with removing and reinserting sim couple times to no avail so i took some advice to toggle with the air plane mode and it started to search for network so i then did a simple reboot and finally BAM it's back up and running so thanks for the advice you all are the BESTTTTTTT............

@Jonathanadams2012 ...which is why I did the tape. If you did the tape, and you have to press firmly when putting on the tape so theres no room for the sim to move around...and its a temporary fix.. if that fails I think you just have to get it repaired.. or sell on ebay and buy another..

thanks i did not use the solution of tape my sim card but i guess in a 80% percent that is my trouble becusae y got an 2g very very old and scochet or taped all arround because is broke the shell extern and the tape keeps together the all ophone :) but wroks really nice for real!! and some last days i got the no sim message and i was rebooting all the time and in seconds it cames the no sim mssge but i guess is this because the sim is old and the iphone to and has lower pressure on the sim card

Thanks to your video I've found out this is the issue my sisters iphone is having, I thought it was a problem with SAM activation or a dead SIM reader but it seems it's not making proper contact (probably from her dropping it 1000 times).

I have this problem, but there are a couple of things I do that might help you.

1. Reboot iPhone, if that doesn't work then

Keep it off for maybe 5-10-15 mins

2. Turn off and take out sim card. Turn back on and put sim card back in. If that doesn't work then do the opposite(take out then reboot and put sim card in)

3.still not working? Turn off iPhone, take out sim, go to sleep wake up turn on phone and place sim back in

I always keep a saftey pin with me

@vinsbmx lol - you have to eliminate both software, and hardware issues. sometimes it is software, sometimes its hardware. I hate that.

@1237257 do you know someone with a att sim? when you have an iphone and connect to itunes it wants to 'activate' your phone, and it does so by reading the sim. Was this the first time you used Itunes? Or did you recently update it? that could cause it to trigger wanting to sync with your phone. Youll have to pop in a sim and see if it will accept it. It will say that phone number is associated with your iphone, in itunes. If you pop in the sim and you can unlock it avoid itunes in general

@Beerlover2007 in a weird way maybe. This helps the SIM make contact with the contacts inside the phone. If your SIM barely makes contact with the inner contacts then its possible there isnt a straightforward connection which I would assume could weaken the chance of finding a signal and keeping it. But this wouldnt boost the signal more than the phones capability.

@Anni619 I dont think theres a permanent fix if you dont want to open it up - and even then it may have to involve soldering. It sounds like maybe in the fall your contacts shifted or were loosened, as this wasnt an issue before the fall.

Have you tried the tape thing on the sim tray? A new sim tray probably will not affect it - however you can get a new one on ebay for extremely cheap. If you do this, and it makes a difference, let me know...

This might be a repeat response as I didn't read all of the posted solutions....

For my iPhone, I cleaned the gold contacts with 70% (or more) rubbing alcohol. Inserted the SIM and removed. Cleaned it again with the rubbing alcohol. Repeated several times. Purpose is to clean the gold pads on the SIM chip and also the gold SIM pin contacts inside the iPhone.

This should repair the problem.

@gavincurtis its a good one to keep in mind, but I do know in the case of my sisters phone, the contacts (or at least one of them) in the phone, were simply too far away from the sim card to make contact. This was proven by pressing on the front of the phone pushing the sim closer to them. I have opened the phone since she dropped it in the water, and saw that at least one of the contacts was lower then the others and I slightly raised it up but until I fix her phone I have no way to test that.

try unplugging the phone, then do a hard reset where you hold down the power and home buttons until it powers off on its own and you see the apple logo. Then plug it back in.

pull out your sim tray and make sure the sim card is not dirty or was put in incorrectly. Put it back in make sure its in and press the tray down firmly.

@freddyboys :( Have you tried a different SIM? If youre using a non ATT SIM, I read that if you borrow an ATT SIM and let it read, then put yours back in...

I dont think its due to the 3.1.3 firmware...it would just say no service but still recognize it.

The phone might have bad contacts, theres a video on here where someone shows how to repair them but if you are not comfortable with soldering or opening the phone, even broken/repair phones seem to turn in a good amount on ebay..
