Alex katuchnik aka dirk lance is and always will be a great bassist in its own fashion with its funky style and slapping speed however Ben kenney its an awesome and complete musician that really adds a level and complexity to incubus music and really have pushed the evolution of incubus to an interesting place

my point dont try to demerit ben by saying dirks was better ...... incubus members have evolved everything changes nothing last forever and ben kenney its a welcome change

im not disagreeing with you in any way, i totally agree, but i would like to point out that a lot of the arguments i hear about dirk comes back to his slap speed/funk style, which i thought ben lacked until the 09 tour... he played a certain shade of green and redefine to a "T", slap and all and it sounded perfect..

the thing is that dirk barely grew, his original sound was better than his later albums..

i like ben because he continues to improve and experiment, right a long with incubus itself

people think, "dirk can slap, so he is better"...well that is not the case. Ben Kenney basslines are much more complex than dirk's. The speed he can pick with his fingers at is remarkable. I suggest you look up "INCUBUS sick sad little world glasgow 2007" and watch bens solo in that, totally fantastic......for me Ben +1 over Dirk.

lies, dirk could only produce good slap lines, apart from maybe are you in.......ben is a better bass player, improvises a lot more, and his basslines are harder. Slap gets boring after a while. Also the speed ben picks with his fingers is nothing short of remarkable.

I prefer ben because he seems to do what feels bast for the song rather than making what would appear to be a concerted effort to stand out from the band as an individual artist as dirk did. Dirk had a great style i just prefer ben's right now.

Well man, personally i think that Dirk is better, because he had the funk that made incubus good... Also i miss his slaps.

Ben, he isn't a bad bassist, but i don't like that he can't slap, and i don't like the direction that incubus is taking with ben, i miss their funk!!

Dirk made incubus what it was...along with each member...ben will take them in a new direction..and from the live shows ive seen (with dirk and ben) and each of their albums. im missing dirk in the worst way. miss the funk that was always aprat of incubus music.

yeah i dont think you can compare dirk with ben. dirk was way better in some places while ben was also better in some. they're style of playing is different. but personally i like dirk, just cause he had the slap/pop technique that he was able to do really clean.

could you imagine dirk playing the songs now? no, because i think dirk was kind of boring and just stayed on one fixed path when it came to playing bass...where as ben goes all over the place but it adds more to the sound and creativity.. i like ben alot more the dirk, on the new dvd during this song ben plays just an amazing solo on his bass
