wonder why they still wouldn't find a use for it today .. as those snow storms here in CO and up there in WY are nothing to laugh at.. what are they using INSTEAD of these? and would that take 3-4 engines back in 1966.. as compared to horsepower avaliable today?
@RamblinAround Thanks for sharring this video, I have been to the museum many times back when I lived in Illinois. I miss Stlouis, I now live in Alaska..
@mrbluenun There's a subscribe button at the top of each video and the top of my page. I think the "friend invite" thing is going away. Thanks for watching!
Am a snowplough driver in the north east of scotland and this would be cool to see working. We had a lot of snow here last year but nothing here yet..
@super58173 You know what's the funniest part, there were tank cars owned by the Hooker Chemicals company, and the longer ones would say, "DO NOT HUMP."
OMG, I was just at the museum myself, and when I saw the thumbnail for this video I had no idea that the plow I saw (the one in the video) is the same one you are looking at! Lol, I need to learn how to type better.
My uncle drove an engine like this on the mid west. The day I went with him we had four other engines connected to us. I was going to say it's slow going but you covered the speed I think he said he could throw the snow close to 22 feet. It one big arche of snow in the air. I love trains and that's a day to remember.
UP built a few of these from the ground up, not recycled diesels. None have been used in 30 years, and with the steam required for heating, may never be used again.
UP has two still on their roster, available should the snows return to the high mountains again. Too prone to break, to expensive (labor wise) to operate. Cheaper to keep trains running over the passes and using flangers to keep the tracks clear.
I remember seeing that term on private cars and wondering if they all had some sick sense of humor? They did not. It means that the engine or car can not be coupled using a hump in the railyard. They get moving pretty fast coming down the hump and slam into the standing cars at the bottom.
hump means- A raised section in a rail sorting yard that allows operators to use gravity to move freight railcars into the proper position within the yard when making up trains of cars (that is, humping the cars). This is faster and requires less effort than moving cars with a switching engine

@ItsDamianLOL I'm going to show a vid of the engine pretty soon. You won't believe how huge the thing is. It would be easier to fit your Honda in it, than the other way around.
That is an amazing piece of equipment. Whats more amazing is those blades only spin at 150 RPM..... It just seems so slow for something with 3000hp. But, it is very effective, thats for sure!
Awesome piece of machinery, looks heavy standing still!! I was laughing when it the sign on the ladder says "don't hump"...lol!! Me & my dirty mind...lol!! What does that mean, do you know? Thank you for sharing, very cool!!
@cwazmann1 Someone explained the "Do not hump" stickers in the comments below. It's a term that comes from the rail yard. It has to do with a sloped piece of track that they use for sorting freight cars and putting them onto the correct track for travel. He said this particular machine is probably too heavy for the hump track section. Thanks for watching!
Good thing someone explained the hump thing. I was a bit confused. Did it say what kind of engine that monster diesel is? My guess is Detroit. I have no idea why, but that's my guess.
@bisquik3006 It was made by GM's Electro Motive Division...a monster 16 cylinder. They also made a 20 Cylinder, 3600HP version. I'll show a similar engine up close in an upcoming video. The pistons are 8 1/2" inches across and the stroke is around 10".

DO NOT HUMP...Should I explain it's weird name?
It's real meaning has to do with sorting yards built on hills and inclines.
Cars are uncoupled and freely roll down the slope into their proper sidings.
These are called "Hump Yards".
...Yeah. I laughed too. Humping Trains.

hump is a manmade hill in trainyards for sorting out cars so the reason why this car cant be "humped" is because it would ruin or destroy the vehicle.
