I normally don't like videos where the subject is just talking to the camera, but I really felt like we were having a conversation about hair. Your passion really came through. Nice job! BTW-I'm four months into my transition. I need all the inspiration I can get. Thank you!
I have decided to transition from relaxed hair to natural. I don't have the courage to cut off all of my relaxed hair (bsl), but I hope eventually I will. I know my hair will be healthy in the end. I just wanted to to sat thanks also because I too have watched many videos and NEVER heard the term scab hair used. I now know why my new growth feels so "crunchy". Thanks a bunch.
I want to go natural. I don't want to cut my hair off all the way. I want know what would be the best way to go natural without cutting your perm hair until your natural hair grow to a descent length that you would be content with? I just finished hearing your last statement and you just asnwered my question :)
@FinestWun4U You should check out this girl intreegme who is also transitioning to natural hair. Just search intreegme on youtube... she has a GREAT product concoction that I LOVE using Ausie's conditioner!
I'm going natural cause I don't have the money for a relaxer. My hair have broken off alot and now in just stuck with this little patch of relaxed hair that won't go away. I have been going natural since October 2010. Should I just go ahead and cut it or should I just wait until it breaks off like all the rest of my hair?
I can't even begin to tell how much this video helped. I just recently made the decision to go natural and I've watched tons of videos and not of them mentioned scab hair. Thank you so much for the info.
Thank you so much for the video. I've been wanting to go back to natural for so long, but my mom never wanted me to. I miss when my hair was black thick and healthy.~
But I do have a question: I've had my hair premed before, but then I stopped and since there were new growths, my mom used texturizer instead. Is it the same thing as a perm? And could there be another way for me to go back to my roots? Once again thankyou!
I have been transitioning for a year now and it was very hard for me to find women that where transitioning as well! So I started using methods naturals used and it has helped me manage my hair so much better!
I was flat ironing my hair every weekend bcuz thats what i use to do when I had relaxed hair.....luckily I have lil to non heat damage. But if I knew what I did now I dnt think I wud have done that.
But my problem is the two textures STILL and I have not trimmed my hair since jan =(
Awesome and informative video. Thank you so much. I am transitioning right now. Almost three months, but I was one that only relaxed my hair twice a year. Now I am done with that. Thank you so much for such an inspiring segment.
I just decided to go natural this week, so very new to this journey. The relaxers have really damaged and thinned out my hair. My last relaxer was 2 months ago. I am starting with a sew-in weave as a protective style, then I intend on trying braids and so on. I do not want to do the big chop all at once and will probably just cut my relaxed ends as I go along. I also started taking a Hair, Skin, Nails vitamin about 6 months ago and can tell that my hair is getting healthier.
so informative and helpful!!! 2 years ago, I was considering going natural but never thought I'd actually do it but you're the inspiration that made me go through with it!! thank you so much Erin for your awesome videos!! love them!
How can new growth be in shock from chemicals put on already grown out hair? The only thing connecting the two is scalp. Hair is already pre programed in terms of texture. Once your hair grows out, you can keep it moisturized, but the fact that you relaxed the already grown out hair is not going to affect new growth.
absolutely dont flat iron your hair if you have gone natural i did 3 times before i realized that my hair was falling out because of the heat damage it makes your transitioning proccess so much longer than needed keep things simple and get out of the European mindset of straight hair you will love yourself for it
thanks so much for this video. I'm transitioning (in my 10th week) and was feeling a bit scared. I've gained so much knowledge and inspiration from you video.
you are very FALSE your hair will not fall of when the relaxed and natural meet. you will NOT need to chop it off, its very fragile thats why u need protective styles
im currently transitioning. no relaxer for 3 months... i am going to wear my 1st braidout to school today... kinda nervous... what suggestions for conquering week 1 without doing a bc right away?
i am thinking about locking my hair....but i dont think i want the gel twists. i know u had micro twists before u locked, did u got to the salon and lock it with the two stranded twist still in?
I just did the big chop after one year and four months. Did it take time for you to get adjusted to it? It doesn't seem to look good on me. Help!!!!!!!!
i liked this... useful information especially the 'scab hair'.... tried to transition up to 12 weeks couldnt go through with it hair was so crunchy and coily I was scared I'll lose the relaxed hair!! anywway I tex lax instead.... Well I got another 10 weeks to think about it see whether i can go for a few months.... well see I'd try again!!!!
WOW... FINALLY... THERE IS A TERM FOR WHAT I WAS GOING THRU. scab hair. my hair is wonderful now i thought i was a 4c or something. but i actually have definition now, opposed to when i first started. Now I see that my hair was in a state of shock. thank you for this video.
This video was so helpful. Right now I have relaxed hair. I did the Bantu knots and I love the natural look. So I think I may go natural. I'm just nervous to see how my hair will look and how long it will take since I don't want to do the big chop. I just wanted to let you know how helpful you video is. It gave me alot to think about. Thanks!!
I did the same thing with the bantu knots and my hair looks all afro like but im scared to go natural because i won't know what to do with cause its hard to manage when is natural
This video is so helpful. Right now I have relaxed hair and I did the Bantu knots and I love this natural look I have now. So I think I may go natural. Just nervous to see how my hair looks and how long it will take since I don't want to do the actual big chop. But I just wanted to let you know that your video was really helpful and gave me a lot to think about in my decison. Thanks!!!
im transitioning ....before i go to sleep i was my hair ..i dry it (w/ a towel) thow some oil on go to sleep...when its time to wake ..i comb my hair and it hurts like heck..I do i keep it moisturized from nighet all til morning ??
@blueangel4lfe Since you are transitioning you are not going to be able to do the same things to your hair that you did when you were relaxed. It sounds like you need to add a deep conditioning treatment to your hair routine and a leave in conditioner. I have a few videos on how I keep my transitioning hair moisturized. You can check those out. Also search for some hair care routines on YouTube. Hope this helps...
I thank you sooo much for this video because I was going crazy today!!! Im transitioning and I just took my plaits out yesterday because I get really hot at work. Everything was fine until my hair dried and it dried faster than I expected (an hour before I had to go to work!!!) and I didnt know what to do with it because everything that I tried looked a MESS!!!! Lol. I was trying to avoid using heat but I eventually just had to use my hair curlers!!! I understand now why people do the Big Chop.
i am in the same boat! I understand totally, i am finding that i am flat ironing just to be able to walk out the door, this is rough! LOl but it's going to be worth it i know,,
I am transitioning for about 10 months now after cutting off a lot of perm on a month to month basis. It really helped to baby my hair with co-washes and oil treatments and no styling for 4 months and using lace front wigs helped me along the way. I now rock my natural hair with a blow out and the length is past my shoulders. I am very satisfied with my journey thus far. No more creamy crack for me. I will wear braids this summer.
When i first transitioned it took me 4 or 5 months and my hair was the length of a bob after i got it pressed. But my hair grows super fast and so does my daughter. Everyone's texture is different. You never know until you grow!
Omg, girl that happened to me to, lol...I couldn't comb thur my hair either, but i washed it n it was fine after dat...but I have been transitioning for 7-8 month, n I can actually tell my hair type, its kinky curly, idn wat that no. is but yea
I appreciate the advice! I decided Thanksgiving was the final perm of my life! I cant wait 2 b natural! I have a ques: What do you think about coloring natural hair? When its long enuf(probably in a year or 2) is that a good decision?
I really appreciate your video. I'm attempting to transition...I haven't had a relaxer since 20 September. Today isn't the best day for me. I had to actually run a hot comb through the back of my hair, because I could not even get a comb through it. I won't be doing heat very often. But anyways, I'm excited about what could happen, and I'm hoping to stay motivated to do this. Thanks for all your input, and I look forward to future videos!
I started transitioning 3 months ago and i did the big chop a few days ago....Im gonna rock my twa...my boyfriend loves it and everyone else does. It feels great to have good support around u...and to my surprise my hair is curly and cute...I love it....
I think it depends on how tight your natural curl is, it can be a clear difference or a kinda fuzzy difference but you should be able to visually see where the two textures meet or at least by feel. It's also easier to see if you have a lot of new growth.
@Acegirl009 Can tranistioning your hair for a long time {5-6 months} be able to get me a lot of new growth...to the point where if I BC'D I wouldn't have a TWA?
It's hard to say, everyone's hair grows at a different rate but I don't think 5-6 months is long enough to avoid a TWA (Teenie Weenie Afro, lol). I would say at least a year but that's just me. Anyone here know how long it takes to grow an afro out passed your ears?
i love being natural and my hair is so much healthier!
My hair was very dry nd brittle and now there re much nicer curls
if you relax your hair u better be in it for the long run cause you will have half curly half straightt, my hair was really bad about a year ago, i diditn chop off all my hair, and im still trying to grow it out. My hair grows too slowly and i think alot of black girls hair is the same.
how did your mom react, when you first went natural. when i first went natural my mom freaked out..she hated it so much. I'm in the process of transitioning again. But i just wanted to know if anyone else had any similar experiences.
Thats exactly what I did to my hair when I decided to transition to natural. Instead of cutting it all off. I decided to wear braids, and cut atleast an inch of my perm hair off at the ends.
okay so this scab hair ting i really dont get, simply because im wondering if i have it. I have been transitioning for 3 months now and the new growth I have does seem to be dry at times, but its never course, and I do have a very coily curl patten (in the new growth), so im just wondering do I have it or is it just lack of moisture?
transitioned for 6 months then went back to relaxer not happy with relaxer so starting over with transition i really want to know my natural hair and it is hard to find other women that understand that watching the videos are my only support right now so thank you very much
@grAnNyc471 wow i did the exact samething.. went natural for about 8months. gave up relaxed it.. now im into my 2month transition.. im soooooo mad i ever permed it again. i should have jus kept on with it... can u help me please. give me some tips.. I really need it... thanxxx..
@MsNyasia i am in my 3rd month without relaxer.i thought about relaxer yesterday and today. i have decided to give this a real try. although i have had to start over ,i have learned something about my hair, hair styles and products for my hair. at one point it seemed as if i would have to choose natural healty hair or pretty hair. now am learning how to have both. i watch video, visit all the sites i can find, and talk with others that have transitioned. good luck!
@grAnNyc471 You should check out this girl intreegme who is also transitioning to natural hair. Just search intreegme on youtube... she has a GREAT product concoction that I LOVE using Ausie's conditioner!
i'm so scared..ok two months transitioning...cant really come to terms with the big chop thingy yet....recently had braids in and my edges are messed up...about to do a swe in weave...looking to take drastic measure(i.e) big chop like withing the next three months which would be around the winter season is there anything i need to know bfore hand...and also any tis for the edges......and thnx for this vid.....
some ppl did say not to do too many hairstyles that are too tight because ur gonnawant ur hair to grow in healthy and thick around the front and the sides especially b4 u get the big chop so just try not to get braids too much
It's great to know the terminology to what I've been dealing with for the past 2 years. I transitioned from a relaxer and went through the "scab hair" and was very frustrated with it. Over time, my texture did come through and I will never go back to relaxer again. I am very happy with how my natural hair has grown out. Thank you for the explanations, it makes everything clear and now I can explain to others what I went through and use the appropriate terms! V
I have always had my hair natural. I was looking for styles to where it in while short and while it;s long. I'm part native american so it grows fairly well but I don't know what to do with it when I cut it.
Also, nobody ever really taught me to take care of it, so I was looking for the best conditioner for dry hair since I live in Arizona.
OMG!! I am so glad you did this video b/c I BC'd a week ago and I am wondering what is going on. My hair is just there...no curl definition, nothing. I am glad to know that this will surpass. It was a little discouraging until seeing this video. After all of the videos I have seen on UTube, this is the first time I heard this...THANK U...much love
Thanks so much for this video. I did my BC about 2 months ago and Im not experiencing this "scab hair" and its awful! lol Can you give me any tips as to how you got through that phase?
Hey girl, you can blow out your hair you just need to make sure that you are protecting it properly with heat protection and not using too much heat. (dont do it too often either)
is there a forum i can join....i just did the big chop last night and i love it!!!! i just want to know if there is a site i can join for support and info on my natural journey....i tried to go natural in 2003... but i gave in... i am so serious about it this time...i am sick of trying to make my hair what its not by relaxing it...i wasn't born with straight hair.....i need to learn to love my natural hair.....
I wanted to know what are the absolute must haves for transitioners?....I'm on a budget,so I'm unable to become a 'product junkie' at the moment. The they only products I've really had the opportunity to try is Black Soap, Shea Butter, and sometimes I no poo with V05.
Is there any other really important product I should have.
I tried transitioning for 6 months and then gave in to a relaxer. Funny thing happened, the relaxer didnt take all the way, so 5 weeks later I tried relaxing again, still didnt take all the way. Up until 3 days ago I had 2 lines of demarcation, I cut one section off. so I have partially natural ends(1.5 inches), relaxed middle and 3/4 inches of newgrowth. So I think the one thing I learned is that I should have fully committed to my natural.
Yesterday I purchased Mizani thermasmooth collection> It works. I just used it and I have not had a relaxer since jan. So if you want to transition but do not want to do braids or cut off your hair try it. I purchased mine at trade secrets. it is also sold at jcpenny salons and walmart salons. It really smooth your hair to look like it has a relaxer.
so true. i also noticed that my hair was not growing as much when i was transitioning. afte ri cut off my the permed ends, my hair like a weed, really>
That is really true. It breaks off where they meet. I did not want to do a big chop so I did braid transition. I did not understand about that chock issue so instead I gave up going natural and did permed instead, but later realized that, I really should give the new growth a chance. I kept embracing what the growth turned out to be and I am just loving it. Feel free to watch my video. Love your video!
I agree with what you said completely, currently am still deciding if I want to go natural or not, my last relaxer was in Nov 08 and since then I have been putting my hair in braids. In between braids I do braid out. I definelty appreciate your tips about transitioning.
I'm transitioning and I will NEVER put a perm in my hair again. My hair started breaking off and I was almost in tears. I had awesome length and lost some. Now i'm going back to natural and i can't wait for all this permed &^*! to be gone! Thanks for the vid!!
I always wanted to ask someone who transitioned is it difficult to handle your hair after you've washed it? That's what gets me I just can't deal with combing my hair when it's wet. What products can you use to make you hair detangle anything natural or organic anyone can suggest?
Oh wow I always thought natural hair could take heat better because it had no chemicals.& since you speak about heat damage from flattening irons and hot combs, can you blow dry natural hair or do you just air dry?
i'm natural hair & i blowdry my hair. i don't do it every day of course i only do it about 3 times a months & i have been doing it for about 6 months & my hair curls right up when it rains & i'm outside. to maintain the blowdried look i braid my hair at night. i don't know if my hair is still healthy because of my hair type but that is what works for me
I detangled my hair while I had really creamy conditioner in it. My faves are Oyin Handmade Honey Hemp Conditioner, Giovanni Direct Smooth as Silk and Trader Joe's Nourishing Leave In Conditioner. I think hair is easier to comb while wet, and I mean dripping wet!
Nice video!!!!! I did the BC 2 months ago and I've been braiding it ever since. My question is how do I keep it from breaking? and how do i keep it conditioned?
Well I didn't transition or chop. I SHAVED off all my hair - relaxed and natural. I know not many are willing to do that, but I think is the best method to start off. And I amazed at how much my hair has grown since.
okay..hopefully you will have time to answer this question..I noticed that you mentioned excess manipulation causes breakage. I twist my hair almost nightly to have texture and the look I want. Is this bad for my hair and hair growth process?..I keep it well moisturized.
The only reason i knew was because I could see and feel a difference in texture. The scab hair part was dry and brittle, while underneath of it was a bit softer and had little spiral curls underneath.
I never knew about scab hair. WOW!! I started transitioning in March. June 2 I punked out and relaxed my hair. My new growth was about 2 inches. It grew really fast because I kept it conditioned and moisturized. However, I couldn't stand the texture. I did not know why my hair was like that and thought this was the natural texture of my hair. Now I know and the journey Begins agin. LOL
Thanks for this! I definitely believe in scab hair! I transitioned from a short cut and the hair in the back that was shaved and didn't have get really relaxed is much softer than the hair at the top that was relaxed bone straight. Some people don't believe but I think its definitely true (hopefully) Ha!
I was natural my whole life until last August. I had to continuously cutting my hair because of heat damage. I ALWAYS straightened my hair... So I was advised to get a relaxer which was the worst decision of my life. So I'm going BACK natural, but this time I'm not using ANY heat at all. My hair was bra strap length and now I feel like I have to start alll over again. Thanks for your info on trasitioning!! It really helped.
Thank u so much for this tutorial on relaxed to natural hair. I started growing my relaxed hair out sometime around Jan. So it's been over six months. It's a dry FRO!! :( Do you have any products that you would personally recommend. TY
Beautiful hair scandalous! I don't know if I believe in the relaxed hair being weaker than natural hair. Everyone I know IRL transitioned without BC.. it's all about caring for that demarcation line.
Your locs look so fab!! I kept a bc since 1997 and in Jan 2009, I got brave enough to grow it out. I got Kinky twists, with extensions in late may and I can't wait to take it down to see how it is doing. Also, thanks for the vids about Oyin. I will be using the whipped pudding. Thanks for the scab explaination. It was very interesting. I am taking my hair down in Aug and just letting it do it's own thing for a while. (and take care of it, of course) My advice...BE PATIENT!
is it possible to have scab hair only on parts of your head?? The top of my head, the hair is growing wild with no curl definition. But i do see tiny coils everywhere else...
I have biracial curly hair but as long as I can remember I have straightened, dyed and even relaxed my hair. N now Im dealing with the aftermath.... My hair is damaged! I just started thinking about doing a BC but don't think I would look right because I never had short hair. Check out my videos. Loved yours!
Because not all biracial people have the same hair texture, just like all black people don't have the same hair texture. Richeau for example is black, but a lot of people ASSumed that she is mixed because of her skintone and hair texture. All mixed people don't have curly hair, and all black people don't have kinky hair. I know biracial people with very kinky hair. There are lots of variations, so pointing out that you're biracial has nothing to do with hair texture.
Yes, I already know that. But an individual heritage/genes often explained there hair type. My hair is different from my older siblings because I'm half puerto rican. I think you were looking into my initial comment to deeply but thank you!
After my sew in I thought about going natural b/c all the stylist I dealt with SUCKED! I could c where the new growth and my relaxed hair met in the back but at the top of my head the new growth was so poofy and I didn't know what to do. I decided to get another relaxer and try again when my new new growth comes in. And my question is I don't like braids or sew ins anymore b/c they hurt so what another option in maintaining the new growth?
I transitioned for 10 mos. and was just tired of the straight ends. I dont care for all the hair typing systems. Why does it matter what 'type' of hair you have? It's your texture..love it..embrace it. It takes a while to fully get used to having kinky, coily, curly hair when you've had a relaxer your whole life but, remember it's ALL good and beautiful hair. Also, Erin is right, if you get heat damage your hair will not revert back b/c technically it's burnt and it needs to be cut. Great vid!
There's a chart that can you can check out to figure out what hair type you are. It has a lot of wiggle room though because most women aren't just one type. Google "andre walker hair type" and there will be several websites that have his chart.
i think its a journey i have transitioned about 4 times this time i actually went through wit the bc and i have been natural for 7 months i think what helped me this time was that my bff has been natural for about 2 years so she was a big help so i would say to anyone find someone that can give u support if u can't find someone around u the ladies on youtube are a great help
i cut off my hair bec i was fed up of going to the hairdresser and sitting for long hours. then i started off texturising and i realised for my hair texture anyway i couldn't grow it with that chemical so i'm fully natural and i use miss jessie's. problem is in my country there aren't many prods for natural hair even though we are predominantly black pop. most people have chemically treated hair.
I did go natural 3 years ago and I cut off everything but I could not manage the new growth because it was extremely dry and it just broke off, so I put a relaxer on it again. I am thinking of going natural again but will not chop off my hair this time around and I have done more research this time around so I think I am ready. Thanks for this video, very informative!
You are so right about not expecting a certain hair type...when I did the strand test I thought I'd have 4B hair and when I cut it...it was 4A. Not that I still don't have 4B cause my hair isn't the same all over but 4A is dominant. This is the most informative transitioning video I have seen so I am FAVORITING! (lol)
before I even had the thought of going natural..I watched your video "are your considering going natural" it inspired me to do my research of natural hair.I'm now natural and their are the good and bad days but I'm still learning everyday and I know I will be natural 4life. Thank you for your videos! God Bless!
I am so happy to hear the term scab hair, I thought I was so stupid to cut my hair off. It was so super hard crunchy and dry that I cried. Eventually I got some coils and a little more moisture so I am learning my hair
I have been natural for about 5 years now and I love it. For myself it became a spiritual journey of finding out who I am and what I feel is needed in my life.
Scandalous Beauty you are a blessing and a joy to watch. Have a fantastic weekend everyone. Peace ya'll.
I stopped relaxing my hair two years ago. I never chopped off the relexed hair and my hair never broke off. I think that may be due to the fact that I NEVER relaxed my hair to the straightest point, I always could still wear it curly. My texture is between a 3b/3c...Now my hair is BSL and i love it. I don't apply too much heat, maybe once a month. So it is possible to grown it out without choppin it off!
I have not realaxed my hair since January. I am not going to do a big chop I am going to wait for 2yrs before I cut off my relaxed ends. Now I am either roller setting or pull it back in a bun. I have not had any breakage.
I love what you said about scab hair! When I first started transitioning I thought I had 4z hair! lol Now after transitioning for 1 year and 7 months, I can clearly see loose curls (probably 4a/4bish). Great info! Your locs are coming along really nicely.
Great vid, I am transitioning, no big chop and it took 12 months for me to start to see my true 3c curl pattern...before that it was just dry and formless and needed soooooooooo much moisture
I have short hair and it is shorter in the back. I don't look right with french braids casue I have a big head, and micro braids are in too long and makes my hair break alot when I take them out. I don't know how to style my hair. While I transition. The only thing I can think of is a wig. I don't want to where a wig all the time, like when I'm working out, what should I do with my hair?
Going from processed to natural hair seems to be this big thing here on youtube. I don't think you need to do research on going natural. Here in Jamaica its simple, you simply stop processing your hair and cut off the creme part when the natural part reaches length you desire. If they want to dread/lock, do the same step and then lock it. Another way is to braid it and then lock each new growth has the braid grows out. Just like processed hair, natural hair needs treatment too.
This is very true. A lot of us make it WAY more complicated than it needs to be. I know I was guilty of this, but looking back at it I see that I could have kept it all way more simple.
I normally don't like videos where the subject is just talking to the camera, but I really felt like we were having a conversation about hair. Your passion really came through. Nice job! BTW-I'm four months into my transition. I need all the inspiration I can get. Thank you!

Very inspiring. You know I'm in the early stage of transiting and it's been pm so far. :)

Once your hair grows out, you can keep it moisturized, but the fact that you relaxed the already grown out hair is not going to affect new growth.

absolutely dont flat iron your hair if you have gone natural i did 3 times before i realized that my hair was falling out because of the heat damage it makes your transitioning proccess so much longer than needed keep things simple and get out of the European mindset of straight hair you will love yourself for it

you are very FALSE your hair will not fall of when the relaxed and natural meet. you will NOT need to chop it off, its very fragile thats why u need protective styles

blueangel4lfe 2 years ago

Nanadsyl 2 years ago
When i first transitioned it took me 4 or 5 months and my hair was the length of a bob after i got it pressed. But my hair grows super fast and so does my daughter. Everyone's texture is different. You never know until you grow!

How exactly do you know when the relaxed hair & the natural hair meet?
I've been thinking about single braiding my hair for a year to see if I'm able to grow it..
sstupidssmile 2 years ago
I think it depends on how tight your natural curl is, it can be a clear difference or a kinda fuzzy difference but you should be able to visually see where the two textures meet or at least by feel. It's also easier to see if you have a lot of new growth.
Acegirl009 2 years ago
@Acegirl009 Can tranistioning your hair for a long time {5-6 months} be able to get me a lot of new growth...to the point where if I BC'D I wouldn't have a TWA?
sstupidssmile 2 years ago
It's hard to say, everyone's hair grows at a different rate but I don't think 5-6 months is long enough to avoid a TWA (Teenie Weenie Afro, lol). I would say at least a year but that's just me. Anyone here know how long it takes to grow an afro out passed your ears?
Acegirl009 2 years ago
I relaxed my hair and regret it so much
i love being natural and my hair is so much healthier!
Girls i hope you know what your getting into!

It's great to know the terminology to what I've been dealing with for the past 2 years. I transitioned from a relaxer and went through the "scab hair" and was very frustrated with it. Over time, my texture did come through and I will never go back to relaxer again. I am very happy with how my natural hair has grown out. Thank you for the explanations, it makes everything clear and now I can explain to others what I went through and use the appropriate terms! V

this is not what I was thinking it was.

OMG....i THINK i HAVE SCAB HAIR I BEEN TRANSITIONING FOR ABOUT 7 MONTHS.
WHEN WILL THE SCAB HAIR GROW OUT AND MY ACTUAL HAIR TEXTURE GROW IN ?
mya32189 2 years ago

InVisiBLeQT 2 years ago
i'm natural hair & i blowdry my hair. i don't do it every day of course i only do it about 3 times a months & i have been doing it for about 6 months & my hair curls right up when it rains & i'm outside. to maintain the blowdried look i braid my hair at night. i don't know if my hair is still healthy because of my hair type but that is what works for me
beinqMe 2 years ago
I detangled my hair while I had really creamy conditioner in it. My faves are Oyin Handmade Honey Hemp Conditioner, Giovanni Direct Smooth as Silk and Trader Joe's Nourishing Leave In Conditioner. I think hair is easier to comb while wet, and I mean dripping wet!

Well I didn't transition or chop. I SHAVED off all my hair - relaxed and natural. I know not many are willing to do that, but I think is the best method to start off. And I amazed at how much my hair has grown since.

relaxed hair= 'permed hair' and then u already know what natural hair is so it's as simple as that
starlightmks816 2 years ago
relaxed hair is hair that has been chemially straightened natural hair is hair that grows out of your head
naeray17 2 years ago
okay..hopefully you will have time to answer this question..I noticed that you mentioned excess manipulation causes breakage. I twist my hair almost nightly to have texture and the look I want. Is this bad for my hair and hair growth process?..I keep it well moisturized.
napturalserenity 2 years ago
excuse me for being a bit slow but lol...how exactly do you know if parts of ur new growth is scab hair?
NiaSoPurdy 2 years ago
The only reason i knew was because I could see and feel a difference in texture. The scab hair part was dry and brittle, while underneath of it was a bit softer and had little spiral curls underneath.
scandalousbeauty 2 years ago
I never knew about scab hair. WOW!! I started transitioning in March. June 2 I punked out and relaxed my hair. My new growth was about 2 inches. It grew really fast because I kept it conditioned and moisturized. However, I couldn't stand the texture. I did not know why my hair was like that and thought this was the natural texture of my hair. Now I know and the journey Begins agin. LOL

I was natural my whole life until last August. I had to continuously cutting my hair because of heat damage. I ALWAYS straightened my hair... My hair was bra strap length and now I feel like I have to start alll over again. Thanks for your info on trasitioning!! It really helped.

I just started thinking about doing a BC but don't think I would look right because I never had short hair. Check out my videos. Loved yours!
afuertes 2 years ago
There is no such thing as biracial curly hair.
brwnbarbie24 2 years ago
and y not? Because I am biracial and my hair is curly... its gives a good idea of kind of hair I have.
afuertes 2 years ago
Because not all biracial people have the same hair texture, just like all black people don't have the same hair texture. Richeau for example is black, but a lot of people ASSumed that she is mixed because of her skintone and hair texture. All mixed people don't have curly hair, and all black people don't have kinky hair. I know biracial people with very kinky hair. There are lots of variations, so pointing out that you're biracial has nothing to do with hair texture.
brwnbarbie24 2 years ago

Great vid!

KasumieBaby 2 years ago
There's a chart that can you can check out to figure out what hair type you are. It has a lot of wiggle room though because most women aren't just one type. Google "andre walker hair type" and there will be several websites that have his chart.

i cut off my hair bec i was fed up of going to the hairdresser and sitting for long hours. then i started off texturising and i realised for my hair texture anyway i couldn't grow it with that chemical so i'm fully natural and i use miss jessie's. problem is in my country there aren't many prods for natural hair even though we are predominantly black pop. most people have chemically treated hair.
browneyestt 2 years ago

I really, really want to go natural. I'm 15.
Yikes. I think I'd have to transition the way you did. Gosh, I just have to do it. :)

go ahead and do it! the faster you make the decision the faster you can get to growing your hair out. I big chopped at 16 :) (I'm 17 now)
