To everyone who posted comments on this tune, i really appreciate them all and am sorry i haven't replied sooner! I have been away from Youtube for a while..
Omg you song brought tears to my eyes. Just made me reminisce my past when i was a tod, we were very poor and my mom would send me to steal fruits from my grandmas haus next door cus we didnt have anything to eat. I experienced what it was to wear clothes made from rags...beautiful song.
That is so sweet. I am glad you enjoyed it. As I said in the intro, the song touches a lot of people, and that is why I get such pleasure from performing it...Thanks again....
jade, i really can't. I play by ear and just pick what I think sounds good! i would never be able to explain it to you! So sorry. Glad you enjoyed it though!!
You have nothing to be sorry for, This song also has alot of meaning for me. My Mom grew up that way also, in a coalmining town in KY. I usually sing along with Dolly but I always choke up when she sings the line about "all the love my Mama sewed in every stitch" Great Job, Would you consider doing a tutorial on this song?
I have played this song for years, and I know exactly what you mean about people's reactions when it is played! TEARS from people you wouldn't expect tears from. My dad brought home this album when I was 8 or 9, and I have always felt so privaliged to have learned what a great national treasure DOLLY PARTON was, is, and always will be. God bless her and her music. What a classy, down to earth lady.
I am really impressed with this version... Not exactly a man's song, but hey, it works.
Nice job! Dolly would be proud as this is her favorite song she has ever written. She is an incredible songwriter and it is wonderful how a song that she wrote and released 30+ years ago can hold its own today and still move other people that can relate to it.
Great job! I posted a video of me singing that song. Let me know what you think!
I love Dolly....all her songs have such a strong message!

I play the first part in C and then it modulates to D for the second verse. It is just C F G, and then D G A. Good luck!
