  • Does anyone know who wrote this song?

Is the Pete Seeger version on his 'For Kids or just plain folk' album a cover version of this one? Did Seeger write it? Cheers!

  • I seem to recall that parents complained about the lyrics which originally were:

"Be kind to your parents, though they don"t deserve it". They were then changed

    to the present lyrics.

I'm a parent and and a grandparent, but appreciate the original lyrics the most!

  • @ KMBCGeno Yes he was, and me too.

  • I remember watching this show. I have learned to appreciate the meaning of this song as I became a parent and now a grandparent.

  • There is a facebook page with some photographs and a short video, too. Just search, Here's Geraldine.

  • The puppets, some Emmy Awards, TV guides, the record and a bunch of other things from Geraldine and Safariland are at the Museum of Broadcast Museum in Chicago. Unfortunately the museum is still without a permament home. They should be open again soon.

  • Be kind to your parents. You know they deserve it. Remember that grownups's a difficult stage of life.. They're apt to be nervous and over excited, confused from the daily storm and strife. Just keep in mind, though it sounds odd I know, most parents once were children long ago. INCREDIBLE!!! So treat them with patience and sweet understanding in spite of the foollish things they do. Someday you may wake and find YOU'RE A PARENT, TOO!!!!!!

  • i missed this song thanks!

  • I remember it well. And Jim Stewart was a good soul. (Also enjoyed his travelogues when I was a kid.)

  • can i have the lyrics?

  • The last time that I saw the Stewarts on tv..was in the mid 1960's..doing a plug for free hand puppets(Which were inside of packages of Oscar Meyer Weiners)and a cardboard puppet stage.(You had to send away for that puppet stage, pay for it and build it.)

  • @143AC Thanks for sharing that fun fact. Even I dodn't know about that.

  • Asside from their hosting the local Chicago,Ill. kids tv shows"Here's Geraldine!"and

"The Glovables"..Mr.& Mrs.Jim & Bud Stewart also hosted the nationally syndicated filmed religious kids tv show"It's Light Time!".

  • I loved this....

  • Wow! What a blast from the past! Thank you!

  • I used to listen to this song in Chicago a half century ago......I'm amazed that I still remembered the lyrics! Thanks for this!!!!!
